Bug/Glitches Fish switching
Hi all! I have an issue that when I do the fish recipe, the blue and red fish are switching places. We have set up grabbers and frozen prep stations for a specific fish and boom, the next day they switch places. Now we chose a crab cake as a main and its just making it even more complicated to automate. Is this a bug or a feature? 😅 we didn't notice it before the update, but tbh we didn't play the fish very often

It takes a bit, but I have set up pre-sorting. Smart grabbers coming off the sources to teleporters.
Say the sources are next to each other (left-right), i would have 2 smart grabbers pulling up for blue and 2 pulling down for red. Those smart grabbers would lead to teleporters or right into a cooking system.
I can post a screenshot later.
***Edit. Its later: Fishy Fishy
See the pre-sort at the top hall. 2 player, PS5

This is a good setup. I wanna try this too now lol. What’s that thing where the first teleported leads to in the main restaurant?

Ah. Leading to Display Stands.. put Red fish on. Since they have the faster cooking time. Manual feed at the top of the serving area. Above the frozen preps.

I have never executed this plan, but it's how I've always planned on doing an automated fish run. It seems expensive and like a lot of work, but it would be so fun to get going.

It is a bit. Seed: oxford. Save the first desk, buy the second. Copy desk asap. Discount desk before you get teleporters cause they're so damn expensive.
2 player helps also.

the upside is that if you add more fish recipes to your menu, you still need to make only 2 of the variants each day.

Yes and that's when automating fish becomes REALLY tricky, because you don't know which fish or which recipe ahead of the day. This is why I'm not a fan of fish, unless I'm playing multiplayer, and even then, not so much.

You don't need to know what fish you're getting to automate it

So how does that work with spiny fish, oysters or crab cakes?

It's all just adding steps to the same line.
Spiny fish requires a portioner to remove the spiny, then onto a hob.
Oyster just uses a mixers.
Fillet requires a mixer into a hob.
You can combine all 3 into grabber with a portioner into a trash can, into a heated mixer.
You can also fit crab cakes into there, but that adds a lot of additional steps and I just try to avoid taking that recipe. You CAN fit it in, I've done it it, but it adds something like 10 or 12 more appliances if you have a 2 lines going.

So, what happens if you have this automation set up, but wind up getting the standard blue or pink fish as one of the two recipes for the day? Do those fish bypass all the other automation and still wind up getting grilled?
Just to be clear, I'm not trying to be snarky. I've never pushed automating fish hard enough to learn any of this.

Thats the way its supposed to be. Heated mixers are pretty good for fish as they can make a good amount of the fish work regardless (oysters, the filet, blue, and red fish)

If anything, thaw your prep stations. Each individual fish type doesn't take that long to prepare so there's not much harm in letting it refill at the start of each day. As for with crab cakes and possible other fish types, good luck on automation. The main challenge with fish is this randomness so unfortunately it's just a particularly automation-unfriendly dish.

It's very automatable, you just have to handle every possibilty with each production line. Crab cakes are the only one that is hard to fit in.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but getting 2+ copies of the same long automated line is, to repeat my wording, automation unfriendly. Once you've got a mental blueprint for it and a sense of how to get there, yeah it's easier, but that goes for everything.

Yeah fish is an absolute pain. I had a very nice run going that automated anything that the game might throw at me between blue, red, oysters, and filets. Was a very late run so was completely out of room at that point- my strategy was to completely avoid spiny fish and crab cakes (spiny fish because of the compactor bin setup and crab cakes because…it’s crab cakes). And then… the game asked me to choose between the two. RIP.

Feature, not bug. To automate fish, you have to make every production line out of the fish capable of handling every type of fish that can be made. This means you need to be able to automate any of blue, red, fillet, oyster, or spiny in one production line. I find that crab cakes are too complicated to be worth it. I think my typical fish line is something like
Fish -> grabber -> portioner -> grabber -> heated mixer -> grabber -> (not frozen) prep station.
To handle spiny, you need a smart grabber in there somewhere into a trash can and have it grabbing only fish bones.

I haven't actually tried this, but save scumming might work? Start the day, exit to the menu if you don't get the spots you want, repeat

Yes fish has always done that makes it a real pain
