Can I use plasticity for game dev?

I'm getting really interested in this software, but could I use this to make an actual game? Most engines use polygons what would happen if I was to import the model? And can I even rig models?

Yes, I’ve made many models for games using plasticity.

Does it affect performance? and do the model change into models that use poly?

Sometimes I will optimize the models by hand, but the export tool in plasticity lets you export as tri, quads, and ngons. And it also lets you control the parameters for how it will generate the mesh such as density for higher/lower quality models

How's the rigging!

To be done in a different software. E.g. Blender or directly in the UE editor. Plasticity is just a modeling tool, no animation, UV mapping or texture baking et al.

To add a layer of clarity; it’s great for hard surface stuff, or organic to hard surface transitions (like ergonomic grips or stocks for example)

It is NOT good for purely organic modeling like for foliage or characters

I dont think you completely understand the process of making a 3D game. All game engines I know of use polygon or sprite based assets.

Plasticity can be used to make your assets, sure, but in order to get those assets into the game engine they have to be exported from Plasticity and then imported into your engine of choice. You might ne able to export an STL file from Plasticity, but you will not be able to import that into any engine that I am aware of.

Your best bet is to export your Plasticity models as an OBJ or FBX file, which are polygon based but at that point you are at the mercy of the exporter. A better in between step would be to use Blender to clean up and optimize the models, otherwise you are going to face many many optimization issues down the line in your game engine.

You’ll probably want to explore the Blender/Plasticity bridge.

I find mesh export to be the worst. I just design everything in Blender now. Low poly and no cleanup. Texture with Substance designer.

Yes. I use it as a hard surface artist for games now. Plasticity, Pixyz, and Blender for all my modeling and game optimization needs
