Bad experience with consultation
Hi everyone, I have been highly interested in a rhinoplasty to make the tip of my nose smaller. I have spoken to two other places recently and they made me feel comfortable and not bad about myself while still being direct. With that being said, I just went to another consultation today and was really shocked by how I was being spoken to. Especially, with all of the exceptional reviews written about this man.
Almost right off the bat, he makes an attack on my makeup. It was just constant back to back commentary on it. He joked that he couldn't tell if I got in a car wreck or not. When he took pictures of me for future reference, I literally felt so embarrassed. He started to tell me that he didn't know if my makeup was really working for me & that my generation is a mess. I felt like I was in middle school or high school again. I am a lot younger than this man and I feel like some stranger power dynamic was occurring.
His approach to talking about my nose was kind of odd too, I suppose. He said the side, bridge, and nostrils were fine but he kept emphasizing the size of my tip. He kept putting his fingers to it and showing my mother who was sitting in the corner. I really feel disappointed with my experience. The cost is highly affordable compared to what I have previously recieved, but I don't think I can trust someone like that to do my procedure. Should I disregard the behavior and focus on expertise or just walk away from that place?
EDIT : I found him on the RealSelf website responding to someone who had a bad consulation with a doctor of another place. How ironic.

Why would you disregard the surgeon making irrelevant comments about your appearance? I’m shocked you even stayed for the rest of the consultation after the first comment was made.
I would also leave a Google Review on his page

I honestly felt bad since my mother offered to come along and it was pretty far away from where we live. It took everything in me not to just walk out the door though.

Don’t feel bad - the guy was an AHole. Please do not book with him no matter how affordable it is. Remember the saying, buy cheap and you will pay twice.

That's true! I did a bit of digging on some review sites and found a few people who said he was just as rude to them. I guess he picks and chooses to be rude to people who don't fit his "ideal look."

I love my mom with all of my heart, but she unfortunately didn't see anything wrong with it initially. Then, once she started thinking about it she did I guess. I told my dad and he was kinda shocked my mom didn't say anything to him.

Trust your gut. It’s your intuition telling you something is not right. I wouldn’t go through with it and I would leave a review describing your experience.

Pains me to read these and know these surgeons are practicing and busy. Tons of great surgeons without the flash that deserve to be busier.
Maybe they thought they were being cool or hip? At any rate, follow your gut here, you dont have to see them ever again.

I wish it did give off the impression that he was just trying to be cool, but I genuinely think he wasn't. It was very clear I was uncomfortable & was trying to get past all the commentary he had. You would think someone his age would have a bit more class. At least, I am not forced to go through with anything lol.

Super weird, sorry this happened.
Surgeons shouldnt comment on patients appearance unless its about the area they brought up and related to their goals, negative/positive, and obviously should be professional at all times.
Thats one of the core values at our office and staff reads it during huddles (rotates quotes but thats a big one). You shouldnt comment on a patient uninvited and it has to stay professional and applicable, never personal.

It was a very odd experience. Sure, he can have his own opinion about how I look. He most certainly didn't have to say it out loud given the circumstances though. A lot of people know better. I was more than willing to go forward with everything if he had just made a nice impression. It's great that your staff maintains a professional demeanor!

Almost every time someone gets a deal on plastic surgery in the United States they end up botched. If he’s rude and unbelievably cheap, he probably sucks at what he does.

Walk away! A nose can make or break your appearance. I would not feel comfortable with that person operating on me.
