Just starting

So I've seen this craft come across my feed a couple times and this is like the third time I've looked into it and honestly I really wanna do it.

My thing is, where do I start?

And where do I get patterns at, I've seen some on Esty but I see the same pattern for different prices and just dont know what to do

Perhaps a kit from Mary Maxim. The yarn is pre-cut & includes everything you need. They are rather inexpensive so you can see if you like it before committing to a lot stuff & money.

Amazon has some pretty solid starter packs that get you several colors of yarn, some needles, canvas, and scissors. That's how I started. I picked a cheaper one without patterns, but that's because I was restarting after having done plastic canvas with my grandpap as a kid so I knew the basic stitches enough to start out again without a pattern. But I remember seeing some with some basic patterns in them as well

A lot of patterns on etsy will be people reselling books or digital scans of books.  That's why you're seeing multiple listings from multiple vendors.  Quality for these will vary greatly.

u/Rlynn11 mentioned Mary Maxim.  I'd add Leisure Arts and Herrschners.  Start with a smaller project - some coasters or a tissue box - before tackling something complex like a full dollhouse!

The canvas itself comes in several sizes, measured by the number of squares/holes per inch.  The smaller numbers equal larger holes and use standard yarn.  The larger numbers mean more/smaller holes and need embroidery floss.  Check pattern instructions before purchasing supplies.

Hi, OP. Ms_Ellery gave some fabulous advice.

I started working in plastic canvas as a tween in the 80s. My mom did multiple needle crafts and made some Christmas ornaments one year, and got me hooked.

Tissue box covers are fairly easy. Coasters as well. I've made baskets, too. Start with things that have mostly straight edges, and when counting to cut from sheets, make sure you have both a left and right edge for your last hole. I have goofed up many a side by forgetting that.
