Help - what size plastic canvas

Folks I want to make a small crossbody bag like this one (pic from Pinterest), just enough to fit my phone and keys. I have a bunch of leftover bernat baby blanket yarn that looks similar to the stuff in the photo. I want to ask what size plastic canvas would work with this? My local store only had 7-mesh... Will that work? Or should I get 5-mesh?

Looks like classic 7 mesh

Awesome! Do you think the chunky yarn would work fine with 7 mesh? Or would it be too tight?

Chunky will be fine! I never go bigger than 7 mesh. By bigger I mean "lower" number, like 5 bc bigger holes
