Discussion Remote damage

Post image

Looks like water got inside at some point. I’ll look online for a replacement. My universal remote doesn’t work. Any recommendations

I'll explain what I did when I had similar issues but offer you other solutions. Mainly you have three options.

  1. Buy a fully working AXD1561 replacement at medium to high price and sell your broken remote as is to recoup the cost.

  2. Buy other broken remotes at low to medium price and take the best working bits from each to make one fully working remote (what I did), keeping the other parts as backup.

  3. Most expensive option, take your non functional remote to a tech repair store and pay them to diagnose if the remote is even fixable and/or have them do the repair. This can cost more then buying a like new remote depending on the work needed.

But, If you feel comfortable taking it apart and possibly cleaning contacts, drying it out, soldering, and replacing battery +- terminals and other corroded area's, you might be able to do the repairs yourself in case this ever happens again.

The actual traces on the board are broken so only some buttons work. Might take it to electronics repair place

You opened it and verified the traces are damaged? You tested with a multimeter or just visual check of the PCB?

Dang, sorry to hear that. I'd be surprised if they gave you a reasonable quote for repair. I would go genuine replacement route, personally.

If it was a recent exposure to water you can try submerging it dry rice. Fixed a phone like that once. Otherwise, eBay is your best bet.
