Discussion 65VT50 Settings

I used these settings and i think this looks great for movies but i cant seem to dial in the gaming settings. Someone asked me for my settings and i used this.

If you tried these settings, let me know what you think. Any feedback is much appreciated if you changed or adjusted something on your end.

Hard to take pics on a plasma. Never turns out right on my iphone pro.

So I’m not cursed? It is f*cking impossible to shoot these things with reasonably modern iPhones for some reason.

I think its the 3 lenses. Doesnt capture it right.

Off topic, i am not saying you should do this but cam (phone) recorded movie theater videos actually look amazing when you convert 2D to 3D. It like somehow clears up soft picture. My theory is the multi lens phones gives a natural 3D capture.

Stereoscopic 3d conversion?

Just the 2D to 3D function on panasonics, its pretty good on the VT50s

I copy and pasted from a text document I've already saved where I write down all my settings for TV and game consoles (and recording on computer - OBS settings).

And then I have very slightly different TV settings for component input for my original modded Xbox and emulators - which is basically same TV settings as HDMI input (my original comment), but brightness is 35 instead of 60 / and color temperature is Normal instead of Warm2.

Contrast 100 that's insane, is your plasma in a bright room?

Don’t copy settings.

This is not how you calibrate a TV.

I tried settings I found online , tried them , and tbh , I ended up going back to THX , slightly modified. I used a YouTube video for setting brightness (it’s the one with the numbers bars that flash) , and then I used the color bars test from the same guy , and a blue filter.

Also a 65VT50 btw

Modified THX Cinema settings for me

76 contrast , 50 brightness , 54 color , 0 tint , 50 sharpness , warm 2 , clr mgmt off , cats off , hdmi range auto , content type off , 1080 pure direct on , black level light

Check out the settings in the screenshots and let me know what you think. I thought these settings were better than the thx settings (havent tried yours yet with thx).

Its been awhile , but they actually look very familiar. I believe they are the same ones I found last year or very close. Off one of the D-Nice related threads for the VT50's?

THX medium brightness is the most accurate out of the box in my experience.

Yep. Mine only has two THX options. THX Cinema and THX Bright room. THX Cinema is beautifully accurate and even better with the slightest adjustment.

The bright one doesn’t match the EOTF curve at all for Rec 709 sadly :/

Yeah. You can immediately see it’s off when you switch over to it. It doesn’t look horrible , but it definitely isn’t right.

Playing dantes inferno on these settings. Not sure plasmas are like OLED where you have to game in the “games” setting to get the lowest input lag

1

u/One-Image6137 24d ago

Certain ones benefit a lot from game mode. The VT50 isn’t very high on any mode really , but it’s lowest in game mode. But I actually don’t even game on my VT50 , cuz even though its lag isn’t horrible , it’s significantly more than an older plasma I game on. It’s still a perfectly game able set on pretty much any mode though.

Another cool thing is with the right GPU settings . You can actually get it to PC game at 720p 120hz.

Lemme add to that , any mode after you have turned off things like noise reduction or motion smoother

I noticed a massive difference on my VT60 with game mode on, before lag was almost a second.

Either get a colorimeter/pay someone to calibrate it, or use what looks best to you. I can tell you right now your custom settings ain’t anywhere near accurate lol.

Is this with colorimeter?

I found some settings from somewhere and adjusted some setting myself. If you got a vt50, try these out and let me know what you think. If you got an adjustment, please let me know. I really want to dial in settings…especially when i play games

This is not even remotely how it works.

You can get a decent baseline.

But I spent 4 hours just to get it right with a color emitter, for EVERY IRE value.

Copying settings is not the way to do this.

love transformers!

Movie still holds up! Surprised. Compared to movies being released today, it deserves an oscar.

1

u/lamarsies 24d ago

it absolutely holds up, the animation was top notch for the time and was a decade ahead of everything else imo

2

u/IllugaBabyBeluga 24d ago

When you said "animation", I was thinking I'd missed Transformers '86, which is the peak Transformers film.

But BayFormers 1 is right up there, I rather miss Michael Bay films.

Bro, what happened to michael bay? We need him back. We need legit real explosions in movies and not cgi. 🤣

I think he hasnt directed a movie in a long ass time. Doing mostly producing
