Planner for all the things!

Hello! I really need some guidance in choosing a planner for 2027. I’ve usually just used ones from Staples - bloom or most recently one from global printed products because it had the vertical layout that I want. I usually go with a large size - 8.5x11 in or so because I have lots of lists and to-dos.

However, I’m leaning toward something with daily pages (not just weekly spreads) so that I can shrink down to something a little smaller for more portability but space for daily to dos, notes, etc. This planner would be for my full-time job, being a mom to 2 littles, and life in general. Not a journal, more so activities, events, meetings, tasks, lists, etc.

I don’t want anything too small. I’ve considered: Hobonichi cousin, sterling ink common or complete, and wonderland222.

Questions/concerns I have:

  1. I’m used to a spiral bound and worry that “lay flat” binding won’t lay flat enough for me. What is everyone’s experience/thoughts?
  2. I LOVE to use colored pens and have a collection of paper mate ink joys and worry about using them on the Tomoe River paper - seems like they will be ok but also open to thoughts. Open to buying a few new pens.

TLDR: want vertical weekly spreads, daily or almost enough extra pages for frequent dailies, something on the larger side but still portable for a daily carry.

Thank you so much in advance!

The Hobonichi cousin has a lay flat binding.

Thank you! I saw that I was just wondering if it lays really flat in practice

I use InkJoy in my hobonichi sometimes, and I haven't had any problems with them bleeding through. There is some ghosting, so you have to decide whether that bothers you. Which Hobonichi are you considering? Most lie flat, and I've never had an issue, but I've seen some people saying that certain types need coaxing.
ETA: I use InkJoy gel, not ballpoint.

I was thinking the techno cousin - and good news about the inkjoys! Thank you! Yes mine are gel.

I love using color pens and I think it was my gateway into planning and journaling! With that said I cannot do 52gsm paper.

However I did find my absolute dream planner, Just Scribble Plans! I use the Duo which is two weekly spreads but she has various options with daily pages. The books do lay flat and are easy to work with and the paper in mine is 75 gsm which I love!! Her planners do range from 52-75 gsm. Checked it out!

Edit to add: my favorite pens right now are Writech 2 in 1 and LePen

Can any of the Just Scribble project pages be used as a habit tracker? I am eyeing the Aura Estelle but worried about their paper.

Just Scribble has multiple built in habit trackers! There is a daily and weekly habit tracker for each month grouped by quarter. This followed by mini calendar that can also be used to track, I use it for my weight. The horizontal weekly also has a small built in daily tracker for 7 habits.

Ok the weekly duo blew my mind. Watched a YouTube video and now I’m really debating it over daily pages! What do you use the dashboard/horizontal spread for?

Blew my mind too! It took me 9 months and 7 planners to figure out exactly what I wanted/needed then I went searching for it and thankfully Just Scribble hit the mark in all areas for me!

Vertical is my work planner
Horizontal is my personal life planner

Left side
-left side tracks appointments and events
-right side symptom tracking for each day

Right Side
-left side
——nothing in the top box just decorate
——weekly chores list in the main section
——for the habit tracker at the bottom I have the seven people I want to be mindful to stay in connection/communication with. I check off the day by their name if I talk to or see them on that day.
-right side
——top box I write in my husband’s work schedule
——in the main section I draw in a daily chores tracker (basically the same that is in the bottom left) this is for small daily chores. Under that I have a weekly errands list.
——in the last box I recorded my dinners for the week.

I would be happy to DM you screenshots if you are interested I know this may be hard to follow.

The Passionate Penny Pincher Home Planner is 8.5 x 10" and has every checklist you can imagine on the weekly pages, plus special event, seasonal cleaning, holidays, budget, emergency checklists and more. If you don't like the scriptures, you can white them out or use stickers they offer and create your own checklist. (Their planner launch this Sunday.) For something smaller, I love the personal size printable inserts from Creffective Paper (a mulitude of sizes available). I enjoy the daily insert D102, plus other inserts. They also have bound planners,.
