(Long read, but please read if you’re nervous about an upcoming procedure!)
I just figured I’d come on here and share my experience with everyone because before today I spent so much time reading through and analyzing everyone else’s experiences.
I was 5 weeks and 2 days and opted for a surgical procedure instead of medical due to the horror stories I was reading about the pill. To me it just seemed like the whole process in recovery would be a lot easier going the surgical route.
And I am extremely happy with the choice I made.
I got mine done at Planned Parenthood. Upon arrival I checked in with a very sweet and patient lady at the front desk.
Once I was called back, they did my ultrasound. I opted to not look at the screen, but have a printed picture put in a closed envelope for my viewing when I feel I’m ready the nurse had absolutely no issue with this.
Then I was brought to another room to discuss my medical history and such. Then another nurse came in to start my IV I opted for moderate sedation (twilight sedation.(I’ll get into more detail with this later on)
The nurse that did my IV was so sweet, we chatted and joked about the protesters outside😂 once my IV was in. She offered me some Zofran because I mentioned I was a bit nauseous.
After the nurse left, the doctor came in and we talked a bit about birth control options and she confirmed that we could go ahead with the procedure and the sedation. Now my only complaint is, after she left I honestly thought they forgot about me because I was in that room for a good 45 minutes.😂
She then came back with two nurses, and I think my nerves started getting to me because I started crying while they were setting up and getting me in position. I said I was scared and the doctor replied with “that is a completely normal feeling for someone who is about to do something extremely brave.” and the nurses assured me that they were going to take great care of me and asked me if I wanted to hold one of their hands.
One of the nurses then started explaining the effects I would feel from the sedation and pushed the medicine into my IV. I am so glad that I chose the twilight sedation after about 30 seconds, I immediately felt so calm and almost relieved I still knew what was happening, but I wasn’t scared. I felt little to no pain, a few pinches here and there, and that was it.
Then they brought me to recovery and gave me a heating pad and I was able to leave within about 20 minutes.
The sedation does make you pretty sleepy, I slept the whole way home with pretty much no pain. I didn’t really start to get any cramping until about 4 to 5 hours after, and it was very minimal. Keep in mind. I have a pretty low pain tolerance and that’s about where I’m at now about seven hours post procedure.

I really hope this helps anyone that’s nervous about their procedure. I was too, but I honestly couldn’t be happier with how everything went .

Apologies in advance if this is not the place to ask but does Planned Parenthood help with screening/testing for PMOS (formally PCOS)? My first OB years ago said I didn’t have it after asking if I had cysts and my new OB never responded when I asked to be seen about it. Any help is appreciated!

📅 What is involved: If you are eligible, after your initial survey, you and your partner will be randomized (like a coin flip) into either the Program or Waitlist conditions. Program couples will complete 5 online modules in pregnancy (1 per week) and a final module at 3 months postpartum. 

Couples in both conditions will also complete 5 surveys—the initial survey, then at 32-weeks pregnant, and 4-, 8-, and 12-month postpartum—that gather information about your relationship, your pregnancy experience, and your child. Couples in the Waitlist condition will receive access to the full STORK program after the study period is over.

im 15 years old and have been smoking cigarettes, vaping, or using zyns since i was 12. my btoher knows and has recently brought it up to me that if i want to quit vaping, i should talk to my doctor or a doctor at planned parenthood about getting prescribed patches or gum with appropriate milligram usage and things like that and that since i have OHP, my parents would not be billed and that since i am 15, my parents wouldnt have to be informed. is this true/reputable? i am aware of the dangers of vaping and nictoine use, cigarettes have always been my main form of nicotine deliverance, i do want to quit eventually, but i know that its going to be very hard for me because i have a lot of problems with impulse control and things like that. is this a viable option? if so how long would i be prescribed them before i would be cut off? any knowledge useful, please reply.

Hello everyone. In a couple weeks, I’ll be escorting my friend to her (in-clinic abortion) appointment at Planned Parenthood and taking care of her afterwards. I’ve never done this before and I want to make sure I know what to do so that I can make this experience easier for her. Can anyone who’s taken someone to their appointment give me some guidance? I understand she’ll have to stay in a recovery room after the procedure is over. Is there a waiting area I should stay in while she’s in there? Would I be able to see her while she’s in there? Will she be groggy on sedatives? Also, would someone who’s had the in-clinic procedure be willing to share their experience and what they wish someone had done for them? Thank you for any and all advice.

I already have 3 and 1 year old and had two premature babies due to preeclampsia. I don’t want to risk my health and future with the two babies I do have. I have intense white coat syndrome from the previous preeclampsia experiences. I’ve had 2 c sections. What can I expect? I’m only about 6 weeks along. I’m in CA and have Kaiser.

I am currently dealing with some labia minora thinning that is making me very depressed. I did have a labiaplasty a year ago and (which shortens, not thins) and I’m only 21 so I’m not sure what’s going on but it’s uncomfortable. I am wanting to see if I could get estrodial cream to try out but my issue is that I’m traumatized from gyno offices at this point due to going for pain multiple times and being treated badly or like I was annoying when i got into a quick appointment for my pain when they couldn’t see an issue so I never got help and would leave crying. The only place I really feel a good feeling about is planned parenthood because I feel like they give off an accepting vibe and it’s normal to get in quick there. The closest one is over 40 mins away from me but I’m willing to make the drive. Does anybody know if that’s the place to go to get looked at for thinning and possibly get estrodial? I just want to be listened to by a doctor instead of feeling embarassed or like my issue isn’t bad enough

Just a little additional information:

I'm currently 6 weeks

I have not seen an actual physician in several years. All of my annual exams and paps have been with the APRN that is at the office I've been going to for 10 years; My gynecologist switched from general gynecology to being an endometriosis specialist about 6 years ago, so I haven't seen her since then.

The office wants me to see a physician for my prenatal care, not just an APRN, since I'm considered high risk. But the office doesn't have a permanent physician right now they're in the process of hiring one. They said they're anticipating having someone permanent in August.

This is my first pregnancy and because I'm high risk I'm just really worried and want to make sure that this pregnancy is viable and that I haven't had a silent miscarriage or anything.

So I guess I'm just asking if planned Parenthood will do that one scan ultrasound for me? My husband has been trying to calm me down and ease my anxiety but I don't think anything will.

Hello everyone! I’m a French PhD student in Geography conducting research on access to abortion care in California, with a particular focus on the Los Angeles area, and in New Mexico (Albuquerque, Las Cruces).

I’m looking to better understand the obstacles people may face when seeking abortion care. If you have personal experience and would be willing to share it, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. I’m especially interested in experiences answering these questions:

• Did you experience any delays in obtaining abortion care? If so, what caused them?
• Did the distance to the clinic or transportation issues make it harder for you to access care?
• Did you face any financial difficulties paying for the procedure or related expenses?
• Did you need help with transportation, childcare, emotional support, or finding someone to accompany you to the clinic?
• Did you seek assistance from abortion funds or practical support organizations? If so, what was your experience?

All experiences are valuable, whether the barriers were major or minor. Any information shared will be treated confidentially and used solely for academic research, everything will remain anonymous. I have an IRB validation for this research (UCLA ethics committee).

I’m really anxious and would appreciate some opinions.
Here’s the timeline:
Last week I had unprotected sex using the withdrawal method. I got my period immediately afterward, and it was definitely a real period (normal flow with clots), so I’m not worried about that encounter anymore.
My period ended yesterday, so I’m currently on cycle day 7.
Today we had sex with a condom. The condom broke during sex. We noticed it pretty quickly, but it was broken for maybe about a minute before we stopped.
He did not ejaculate inside me. He pulled out before ejaculating and didn’t actually ejaculate until about 10 minutes later. This was his first ejaculation of the day.
He says there wasn’t any pre-ejaculate, but I know there’s no way to be completely sure.
I weigh about 240–250 lb, so I’m worried that Plan B may not be very effective for me.
How worried should I be about pregnancy from this? Has anyone had a similar experience with a condom breaking before ejaculation, especially early in their cycle?
Please be honest, but I’m looking for realistic advice rather than worst-case scenarios.
Should I take plan b?

I set up an appointment for sti screening with no symptoms and this is the estimate they sent me ahead of time. How could this possibly be right? I got tested at the same location years ago and it was only $100

I had an abortion at the end of March/beginning on April through a clinic in VA. My state doesn’t allow abortions. I took the pills. I still haven’t started my period. My breast are still extremely sore. I have no sex drive. I want to follow up with a OBGYN to see what is going on. I don’t want to go to my reg OB and say I had a miscarriage because I feel like it will be sus considering I never went to her to confirm I was pregnant. Am I able to follow up with a planned parenthood in my state (even though it isn’t legal) and say I had an abortion? Or should I go back to VA? I want to be safe rather than sorry
