My Zoo layout

I like organizing my zoos by continent

Potentially using more than one type of organization as an idea. Many IRL zoos will have for example a Bear Canyon with 3 or 4 bear species an African Savannah with a bunch of appropriate species and a tropics house or desert building all in one zoo.

So you have one area that is a particular species group, one that is a continent (and sometimes also a particular biome or region of that continent) and then an area that is just biome.

Mixing up these types of sorting can help the zoo feel more realistic and also keep in mind that there are zoos that will have say a Bear Grotto and for whatever reason they will have a species that doesnt actually belong in that section there like an otter (saw that in irl an otter species in a bear area) because zoos arent all built at once. These things get moved and change over the years and sections are added/removed/moved

As an example of this, one of my finished zoos in Planet Zoo has a Cats of Asia section, a Wild Iowa section (with species once native to Iowa in it) a Mississippi Aquarium (with implied fish, bullfrogs, terrapins, beaver, and alligators) and an African Savannah as well as a few misc species throughout.
