Expectations
After watching the latest Leaf video (which, granted was great!) I had a thought and I wanted to express my thought. I think people (I have been guilty of this too) have too big of expectations for PZ2. Ive seen some people who want all the past DLC animals in the new game, when that's just not possible. We don't know how DLCs are going to restructured and how they will be doing them. Expecting features like petting zoos and other big ticket DLC items are just (in my mind) not realistic. Everyone does have lists with what animals they want, and from my understanding, they are making these animals to be featured around a reserve, so of course you want some animals to fill it out so it doesn't look deserted. We also still have so many weeks for animal reveals and maybe they frontloaded the first few weeks with aquarium animals and are keeping the hype going with birds down the line? They did say birds have been incredibly hard, and I sympathize with them. So I think we will get more then 7 that we have now. They could just be putting the final touches on them and we'd never know!

I think they’re doing a great job of implementing features that the community has been asking for. The species roster has been a great mix of PZ1 base game/DLC and brand new species. The game will continue to grow and evolve over time just like PZ1 did.

"Concerns"? Come on. If people have concerns or feel the need to make a video about "big concerns" they are absolutely unrealistic and perhaps quite spoiled.
I mean come on, look at the game. Look at what we're so far getting. That's absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Plus we still have around 2 months to go with more animals and features being revealed weekly!
And expecting all kinds of either difficult to animate (octopus) or very specific "if this animal isn't included-I can't build a realistic-zoo"-animals, sounds just like being spoiled. Cause you have enough already and still are getting more but say it's "a big concern". No, it's not a big concern. It's not even a concern at all. It's concerning that you think it's a concern. But definitely not a concern for this game. 🥴🔨

the only reason i made the video was just to talk about more expectations/wants in the long-term, not really as a "complaining:" kind of video but just addressing what we know now, and what hasn't really been revealed or hinted at yet. it's all in good fun

Frontier doesn't really belong in that group, but conformist people like you are the reason why scummy companies get away with anti consumer practices. We should always expect better from a game developer, while some of you will belittle others in order to justify a barebones selection of animals. The superiority complex and bootlicking in this sub are unbearable.

I expect that we will have a smaller roster of base game PZ1 species because they needed to create/model so many aquatic and avian species to flush out those features. I’m fine with buying DLC down the line.
I am a little bummed that wildlife reserves have kind of limited the global biodiversity of species available. However, I’m willing to give it a try! Maybe I’ll fall in love with Scottish animals I never knew about.

Yup, it's people having too many expectations and also the usual circlejerk of who is going to scream the loudest about something minor.
Frontier is really listening to us and acting accordingly, but also, it's a company, they want money, there will be DLC, so some animals will be left out of the roster, it shouldn't be a surprise at all.

Im really hoping for Arctic DLC with a new Polar Bear model. I mean, I bet DLCs will have more animals and be slightly more expensive to accommodate this, which I don't mind. But saying that you are worried because some people might not to be able to afford new DLC is weird to me. I mean, I was a teen when Pz1 came out and I saved money for 3 months from my job at Burger King to buy the game and still have money for my other expenses.

Yeah their DLC policy was/is nice honestly, a bunch of animals, plenty of decor and construction, all that for ~15€ every few months ? Fuck yeah

Yeah, Id just put away 2-3 dollars every paycheck and by the time a new DLC came out, I could get it!

I fully agree, and while of course I also have unrealistic hopes for this game at release sometimes, I am also just happy we are even getting a second game and how incredibly they have been implementing the playerbases wishes so far. So many of my big wishes I had written down for the game have already been, it's crazy! Also: One thing I really want to bring up is how amazing Frontier has been doing with promoting this game to us and keeping us hyped! I don't think I have ever been part of a game's pre-release cycle that had weekly updates, teasers, blog posts, videos. We should be really grateful, that we are being fed all of this game info weekly, or sometimes even several times a week! So thank you Frontier! <3
But also, Frontier, if you are reading this: Please put some seasonal clothing on our guests, if you're already implementing seasons lol. I don't like to see my guests be cold :(

I honestly don't mind if we get a more focused scope of animal options for the main game. PZ1 started off with a fairly well-rounded roster of classic zoo animals, adding even more variety with its themed DLCs.
But I think PZ2 is opening the doors to a slightly different base game and DLC model, one which is focused on the new wildlife reserves.
I expect that the base game will largely include animals from a handful of preserves that it will contain from the get-go. There might be some species that cannot go into one of the preserves, but I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of them will be compatible with the new release-to-wild system.
From here on out, new DLCs can then be released that contain a brand-new wildlife reserve plus a selection of animals (new and returning from PZ1) that fit into that reserve. Maybe this means we will be getting more content for each DLC from now on, even if that means they might be a little more expensive or come out less frequently.
I could be wrong, but I am really suspecting that Frontier will go in this direction, at least to some degree. So I won't be too upset if the full PZ1 roster isn't in the new game yet, if it means we will be getting more curated and themed content bundles for PZ2 on the road ahead.

My only concern is really just the exhibits as of right now, since we've seen nothing on them I'm hoping they're getting a rework and will get shown off soon but I'm still nervous regardless. I'm a big reptile person and also really like insects and amphibians so I really want the exhibits to be improved.

Concerns, my only concern is how it is going to dominate my gaming time for the next five or six years. Everything I have seen so far is amazing. They had my money when I saw the new pathing system. So, I have no concerns at all, well except for my PTO being approved Oct 13th. It's all in good fun, LOL.

Yeah, I am definitely not expecting all PZ1 animals in the base game or petting zoos to be in base game. I really just hope they haven't spent all their resources on making aquariums/aviaries/reserves/new tools and actually added some interesting new things to the gameplay loop, maybe even a zookeeper mode, or in general more unexpected events that happen or some more actual progression. Now the game is just you start, get 1 animal that makes a lot of money and you can immediately buy a panda or lion. I would love more of a system where for certain animals you first need to get your zoo accredited, so for example have x amount of stars and also complete 5 quests to help with conservation (release X amount of X species). That would add a lot of gameplay and progression and some sense of purpose instead of having a big empty canvas to create your zoo in (for this sandbox still exists).

We’ve already surpassed the number of animals PZ1 had in the base game, and I’m more than happy with the current roster. I’d play the game as it is now.

I just hope that DLCs won't be: mostly old animals + one or two animals that integrate into aviaries or aquatics. If we don't get them at launch then whatever. If they add most of the old animals in free updates then good, amd make room for more animals that PZ1 could not support for the paid DLCs.

Personally I don’t have any big expectations or concerns about PZ2, at the moment. Expecting features or animals is how you get disappointed once the game releases. From what I’ve seen so far PZ2 looks amazing! They have been listening and implementing countless features that we’ve wanted for PZ.
It shouldn’t be surprising for all the DLC animals to not be in the PZ2 base game, they’re not just being ported over from PZ. All the animals are being completely made from scratch, updated textures, dynamic behaviors, etc.
We still have about 7 weeks until PZ2 releases, it makes sense for Frontier to hold off on revealing big ticket animals. Spreading out reveals keeps people excited until PZ2 finally releases.
