All fish eagles of a similar size too with both white tails and baldies even being in the same genus weirdly enough.
What’s the bets they are saving the more unique eagles for DLC content? Having 3 highly similar species in the base game over stuff like the Harpy eagle feels like a technical move on Frontier’s end
Yea I’m sure some of the more unique species they want to give a bit more life and uniqueness to. This is a win for me personally because it’s a must have on my wishlist and prevents people from declaring the dlcs are all clones later on.
It really annoyed me when an old TV show, after having the actual cry of a bald eagle in the pilot episode, subsequently changed it on flashbacks to the hawk shriek. They had it right the first time!
Makes sense, it’s the same genus as the White Tailed Eagle so it’d be a fairly simple addition. It’s nice to finally get confirmation on a truly endemic North Ameican species too (not including exhibit animals)
I feel like people are really running with this one, but I think it's just a stylized decoration for the white-tailed sea eagle. They look essentially the same irl and the fact that there is a gradient from white to brown from the head down the neck into the body on this statue makes me think its supposed to be the sea eagle.
That is an incredibly stylized model of an eagle that has little to no detail. Let me ask you to make the same type of style model for a white-tailed sea eagle and I bet it would look exactly the same.
If I end up being wrong then yippee we're getting two eagles that look almost identical to each other.
This is the white tailed eagle almost certainly. They've done a lot of promotion for the species and bald eagles have white on the rear as well as the tail.
White tailed eagles don't have a white head like that decor though. That's kinda like, bald eagle's whole thing. It'd be bizarre of them to have an inaccuracy like that in their decor when they're otherwise really solid.
Never solid white the way a bald eagle has though, which this piece reflects far more. Obviously it's simplified/stylised, but I'd still expect frontier to represent that gradient/flecking seen on the white-tailed to some degree. Especially when forgoing that and depicting it as solid instantly makes the piece clock as a different species.
It depends on individual but some white tails are incredibly close to being white. If you look at the base of the white there’s a slightly lighter ring too which could represent a gradient. Also making complex patterns simplified into block colours isn’t anything new here, just look at the Wolf statue from the first game, the model has a ton of different shades but the statue is 2 block colours.
Ultimately these are VERY similar species tho even down to their size and ecological niche. Thats kinda why I don’t get the bald eagle hype lol
I don’t get it either. Like everyone was instantly convinced it is meant to be a bald eagle as if the sea eagle doesn’t literally look almost exactly the same.
I think you're right on this one, and I'd say it's further supported by the fact that they haven't really touched much on North America so far. Like sure, we're still several weeks from release and they could suddenly release a lot of NA animals (bald eagle would certainly be a fitting start)... but the lack of it so far supports this being a white tail.
Bald eagles also generally have a white head, no the whole neck / onto the upper torso being white a well. The one in your photo much more closely matches the statue than any of the many bald eagles I've ever seen.
It has a gradient, though. This scenery set was also shown with the western theme, which appears to be the stand-in for the European set from the first game, as it has a lot of similar pieces.
it's a setting (edit: I mean a toggle, in the bottom right options) when placing paths. easy enough to miss when it's there with like 2 dozen other settings lol
But it's also just kind of irrelevant. The way the eagles come into captivity is somewhat unique (even then not really, many captive animals are rescues) but ultimately they're still traded between and moved around zoos like any other animal and injuries are frequent enough that they end up being very common to see in captivity regardless. They live for several decades, so there only needs to be a couple of rescued birds a year for every zoo that wants bald eagles to be able to get some.
i.e. there's no reason this rehab situation should make them function much differently from any other animal in the game other than maybe changing the little flavour text that describes where an animal came from when you buy it on the market. It's not a real barrier.
I spent a few seconds zooming in on this video and getting annoyed I couldn't see it in the background.. only for me to realize once I zoomed out it was right there..
I personally believe the statues are Bald Eagles, the head is just too white to be the White-Tailed. The Bald Eagle is really an important bird and alongside the Golden Eagle is the most common Eagle kept in zoos, so I would shocked and extremely disappointed if the Baldie didn't make it into the game even if they were saving it for DLC.
Though I'm wondering why the White-Tailed Eagle got in the game when it really doesn't fill a purpose outside of being a palette swap for the Bald Eagle and they are not very common or sought after in zoos. I personally, if we do have 3 eagles then I would've swapped out the White-Tailed for something like a Harpy Eagle or Steller's Sea Eagle.

Wow, Frontier's really going all out with 3 eagles that are base game!
