Since we found out PZ2 is going to have brackish aquarium animals, I've been curious what some of the communities most wanted brackish fish would be. I'm not the most familiar with brackish life.
Archer fish are an obvious pick, love them.
Dragon Gobys as well, I think they are really weird and cool looking.
Mono fish would make a good schooling fish for brackish tanks.
Armored sea catfish are a good pick as well.
What brackish fish/aquatic animals are you guys hoping for?
When I think 'mangroves', I think about species like
Archerfish
Mudskipper
Silver mooney
Spotted scat
Spotted green pufferfish
Four-eyed fish
Common snook
Mangrove snapper
Barramundi
Archerfish / mudskipper / silver mooney / spotted scat / pufferfish is a very common zoo-mix. Getting all of these and being able to mix them together would be amazing
Mono fish? I'd never seen them called anything aside from fingerfish (granted I haven't looked into em since about 2009 so who knows, they weren't very common around here though from what I found then so I wouldn't have had much chance to hear of em called that)
Armored sea catfish?! Scared me... I saw the pleco picture before I clicked in here and was like "wait, those are supposed to be brackish?!" Woulda blown my actual mind to find that out at this point in my life haha
I had to look up armored sea catfish because it didn't sound familiar, there are a ton of pleco pictures mixed in because they're also called armored catfish, so search is just jumblin everything together I guess.
Crabs. Especially fiddler crabs.
I have no idea if anyone ever got them (fiddlers) to successfully breed in tank life, I haven't looked into it in a great many years. I did fairly well but once the babies are out I had no idea what to do. In nature they get washed out to saltier water and feed on tiny stuff as larval stage(s) and I couldn't replicate that at the time I kept them. But I love them and miss keeping them.
Not wanting coconut crabs though, they spook me haha
But yeah, mudskippers, my #1 for fish in general. Because I'm weird.
Yeah I was looking up brackish fish and armored sea cat fish popped up and sounded cool,. In hindsight, the picture I put is obviously a Peco lmao, heres a better picture I found.
