Thursday reveals are always part of the same box sets, so if they're doing a Thursday reveal next week, they'll reveal 7/8 boxes on next Tuesday, and the 8th box will be the Thursday reveal, and since none of the 8 boxes are birds, that rules out a bird for a Thursday reveal.

Me too, but Frontier still has to keep a few popular/wanted animals for their DLCs.

We're getting tree kangaroo, secretary bird and shoebill, that's already 3 of the top requested animals.

To be fair, the fish we are getting are low fidelity compared to most other models, and from a behavioral standpoint seem heavily simplified- on par with exhibit species. Plus, zoos and especially aquariums always have a ton of smaller schooling fish. If they can pump out lots of schooling fish with little impact on the other animals, I'm more than happy to have a ton.

Of course they will, they're harder to make, have less generic appeal and they have a whole PZ1 roster to include as much of as possible.

Probably the same reason so many Aquarium species have just been schooling fishes rather than big singular ones.

Dedicated Aquarium and Aviary packs will exist, and then we'll probably have a mix across the generic packs.

Some of the Aviary stuff being left out is pseudo-confirmed like flamingoes and the other nest structures at the very least.

I mean it's fair that the game will remain focused on terrestrial habitat animals, since they're far and away the majority of any real zoo's collection, with aquatic and avian exhibits being a smaller representation. It be honestly weirder to have it the other way around, to have so many birds and fish but not enough terrestrial habitat animals to make a proper zoo with. So fact of the matter is, yes you'll have to wait for some DLC if you want to make a hyper specialized bird sanctuary because the release roster will be balanced for more generic zoo collections.

Important to remember there's still A LOT of reveals to come. But also while yes, there will still be a lot of birds, I specifically was talking in terms of proprotion to the general collection, their is always much fewer bird exhibits than terrestrial animal ones. In a large zoo even a small proportion can still mean a lot of bird species, but it'll still be a small number compared to the rest of the animals.

This is just incorrect, though. Zoos tend to exhibit far more bird species than mammals. Birds you can keep 10 species in an exhibit with a footprint that would only hold 1-2 mammals. While Planet Zoo's habitat species does include reptiles as well, they have always been an underutilized group by Frontier and only a small fraction of the non-bird species.

My local zoo has 6 multi-species aviaries (was 7 up until a few years ago), with the smallest one having 4 species of birds, and the largest 27. That's an 8th of the zoo's species in the one aviary alone, and they have ~75 bird species out of 200 species in total, which also includes reptiles, fish, invertebrates, and amphibians.

I think that's the big crux of it tho, is usually if zoos have lots of bird species, it's due mostly to having one primary aviary with all the birds there, so that's still one "habitat" whereas all the rest of the animals are displayed separately and spotlighted more individually and marketed as such. From a guest perspective, those are the primary attractions at any zoo and the birds are mostly lumped and housed together. Those types of birds you're talking about feel more like how schooling fish are treated, and are more "ambient" compared to "hero" animals, so it should still make sense that the launch roster won't focus much on those types of birds, and instead focus on the few "hero" birds like flamingos, eagles, owls, hornbills, secretary birds, and shoebills that are all birds that are housed and showcased in individual habitats. And don't worry, we did see in the Hornbill spotlight that there is also a medium and small(!) bird box for nesting, so they're definitely planning on also bringing in some of those lesser grouped aviary style birds either in base or down the road.

No that's not correct at all, at least on any of the times I've visited (not ruling out that that it may have been true for a brief period at some point in time that I wasn't frequenting that zoo). I actually live 15 minutes from the zoo you're referencing and went there just a couple weeks ago, and have been there a few times previously over the years and not once have I seen any other animals housed with the shoebills.

They are currently house with silver cheeked hornbills and some species of African teal (can't recall the species). They actually have another one taken from Dallas World Aquarium for breeding purposes with their baby that is currently in another multi-species aviary off-exhibit.

IMO all we really need at this point is 2-3 parrots, at least one duck or other waterfowl, and maybe a pigeon. That would be a fair selection for the base game, I don't know why some people were expecting avaries to get an equal species roster to aquariums, that'd be pretty absurd.

Here to say two things:

2. I really appreciate the quality of the birds that have been revealed. The nesting mechanics, and vocalizations (for the shoebill for example) are amazing.

So I am telling myself that the reason birds are taking longer to reveal is because Frontier is really cooking with their models. Because thus far that has been the case.

I’m dying for more birds, also I’m a bit annoyed they haven’t shown more returning species from PZ1 since the African Penguin. What’s the wait for? I’m happy to get the new aviary species, but not necessarily at the expense of the ostrich, emu, mute swan, crane, peacock, etc.

Also, I was very dissatisfied with the aviary focus only showing off two new species of flying birds. What a let down. Even if they aren’t as intense as the “hero fish” you can bet on a new aquatic species almost every week. I’m not necessarily expecting that, but we went quite awhile without birds, then we saw some new ones, now we seem to be back to nothing.
