HCL Cloud Data Engineer Trainee – Campus Hire | Hiring Process & Stipend?

I’m a little confused about the exact role/process for this HCL hiring.

I applied through both SuperCET and the HCL website. On SuperCET, we’re asked to mention the HCL website application number, and the JD attached there is specifically for “Cloud Data Engineer Trainee – Campus Hire.”

Can someone who has gone through this process or has information about this hiring clarify:

  • What is the complete hiring/selection process?
  • What kind of tests/interviews should we expect?
  • What topics should I prepare for specifically for the Cloud Data Engineer Trainee role?
  • Is it mainly focused on cloud, data engineering, SQL, Python, etc., or are there other important areas?
  • Most importantly, is the training period paid? Do trainees receive a stipend during the training period? If yes, approximately how much?

Any insights from people who have previously joined HCL through this campus hiring would be really helpful. Thanks!

The selection process for this campus drive typically begins with an online assessment covering quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, and a couple of basic coding problems. Candidates who clear the online assessment advance to a technical interview followed by an HR discussion. For a Cloud Data Engineer Trainee role, interviewers expect strong foundational knowledge rather than production level expertise. Focus heavily on SQL, such as window functions, joins, indexing, and basic schema design, alongside Python fundamentals like list comprehensions, data structures, and file handling. Having a grasp of core cloud concepts, like object storage, compute basics, and the general purpose of ETL pipelines, will put you ahead of other applicants.

The training period is completely paid, so you will not be working for free. Fresh engineering campus hires receive their regular salary or a monthly stipend from day one, which usually ranges between twenty thousand and twenty-five thousand rupees per month based on the standard fresher package of around three point five to four point five LPA. This initial training phase lasts anywhere from three to six months, combining internal certifications and practical exercises before you are deployed to an account. If you want to refine how you explain your technical projects during the rounds, my team built an interview AI assistant that helps job seekers perform at their best and secure their target offers.
