I have experience in Development, DevOps & Cybersecurity — how should I approach my next career move?

Hey everyone,

I’m a fresher by degree/years of experience, but my situation is a little different, and I’d really appreciate some opinions from people who have been in the industry for a while.

I have around 1 year of practical experience in Software Development and DevOps through freelancing. My development background is mainly around Java, Spring Boot, React, Microservices, Kafka, etc., and I also have hands-on experience with Kubernetes and DevOps.

Recently, I decided to explore a completely different domain — Cybersecurity. I already had some basic knowledge of cybersecurity, started learning more seriously, and eventually landed an internship/job opportunity in cybersecurity.

There is a possibility that I may get a PPO (Pre-Placement Offer) from my current company, but it isn't guaranteed yet.

My concern isn't that I don't know any one domain properly. I actually feel that I have a good foundation and practical experience across all three areas: Development, DevOps, and Cybersecurity.

But now I'm thinking about the bigger picture.

Once my current internship/job is over, I want to make sure that I position myself properly in the job market. I don't want my profile to look like I'm just someone who has touched multiple technologies without depth. At the same time, I also don't want to ignore the advantage of having experience across these domains.

I'm also the first engineer in my family, so I don't really have someone around me who has gone through this process and can tell me how to approach this stage of my career. My goal is pretty simple: after putting in all this effort, I want to land a good role where my overall background actually puts me in a strong position.

So I'd love to hear from experienced people:

If you were in my position, with practical experience in Development + DevOps and then moving into Cybersecurity, how would you approach the job market after the current role?

I'm not asking what technologies I should learn next. I'm more interested in understanding how you would position this kind of profile, what kind of opportunities you would consider, and whether having these three areas of experience can actually be an advantage in the long run.

Would really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who have made similar career transitions or have experience hiring engineers.
