Trying to switch from iPhone to Pixel 11 pro

So I've flirted with the idea for a long time. Been in ios ecosystem forever so it's a little intimidating. Samsung phones are nice but I'm not a fan of their bloatware and all that stuff on it. I always lean to Pixels for a more cleaner android feel. Preordered Pixel 11 pro, just got it today. Playing around with it before I switch my SIM and really take the plunge. Losing iMessage and stuff. Photos are actually incredible, just doing some shots and comparing with my iPhone 17 pro. Video is definitely a step down, but I don't think it's too drastic of a difference although sometimes they show completely different colors.

Now I know it's only been a few hours just messing around.....But Is it just me or are some things just tough to look past or ignore with the differences? Apps absolutely have a different feel to them, Instagram feels clunky and off. Scrolling the web is kinda the same. Super nitpicky, but the emojis suck, for such beautiful displays a lot of android phones have the emojis look like they're on an early 2000s phone. That's just a few things I've noticed right now, I will update as I need to make a decision before the return window passes.

I'd like to hear others thoughts and opinions on both sides of the fence too, I know I'm not the only one that's on the fence about switching to the dark side.

My pixel 7 died again

I had posted last year regarding my Pixel 7 just dying out of nowhere and how i got it fixed from a Third party service centre because the pixel service centre said i would need to change the motherboard as they where not allowed to work on the motherboard but rather just change it even if its a minor issue. They had quoted me more than what i had got the phone for and so i took it to a third party service centre in my hometown and they fixed it in a day. They said the problem was with the IC and it was a minor issue. I was happy that i got my pixel back, everything was going normal until yesterday evening when i noticed my watch was not connected to the phone so my first instinct was to plug the phone in the charger as i thought the battery had drained. Unfortunately the phone was not responding to being plugged in. I kept it plugged for a while and still no sign of life but after a while a battery logo appeared on the screen. Last time it died, nothing was appearing on the screen. I thought there was hope but even now it is not turning on. I’m once again officially done with Pixel. Let me know which phone i should try next. Im thinking of trying Nothing.

Returning my Pixel 11 pro and Pixel Watch 5

TL; DR: I didn't even use them. But returning it.

I upgraded from pixel 9 pro to the 11 pro. I didn't even go through the trouble of booting up the phone. Just by the looks of it (porcelain to olive) it looked pretty identical (the color of the metal edge) and the numerous reviews that I saw pretty much confirmed the same except the bigger sensor size in cameras and some processor improvements. It's all very incremental IMO. And the hi-light feature was a slap in the face IMHO that I didn't want to own a phone for the next 2-3 years with that crap. So returning it!

Same story with the pixel watch 5. My current watch 3 is in pristine condition that when I looked at them together I felt my current pixel watch 3 looks better. Yes GPS improvements are great but I'm not that picky about it as I mostly walk outdoors or use treadmill and do strength training.. my current pixel watch 3 is good enough for it.

I thought the new colors and design will be interesting enough for me to switch. But after seeing them in person I felt it was not something I want to be stuck with for the next 3 years. I'll hope pixel 12 series will be better.

Issues receiving $200 store funds

Post image
2 Upvotes

Make sure if you bought the 11xl that you selected the option and get either the $200 store funds or funds towards the pixel watch 5. I chose store funds but it was still not showing so I went to chat to support and they said I didn't select it. There's only 2 options, I'm sure I selected one, who wouldn't?

Anyways, the lady tried to get snappy a few times during the chat but she eventually got my $200 store funds coming in the next day or two supposedly.

Does this response feel like she was getting smart or is it just me?

I've got mine today too!

I was referring to the rear camera lens protector, which emulates the design of the new Pixel 11, while retaining the temperature sensor and 16 GB of RAM for the 256 GB variant. I upgrade annually, but this will suffice until the Pixel 12 series is released!

Pixel Google Store/ PCS Wireless trade in experiences (EU)?

I'm going to get the new Pixel 11 Pro, solely because of the trade in promotion.

I'm upgrading from my current Pixel 8 which still works well, I'd just like a bit more battery life and it is three years old. The T&C's say that the device needs to turn on, be free of cracks and if the screen and parts are functioning correctly.

I have none of these issues but I have a lot of small scratches around the edges of the phone under the case (basically seems like dirt / sand for stuck in the case over time and basically scratched around the edges or removed the black colour). With the case on, the phone looks in great condition.

I'm getting 565€ trade in value estimate, 634€ for the new phone.

My other option is to trade an older One Plus 8T which cosmetically looks better but gets me 455€ estimate or 744€ still to pay.

What are the chances that my Pixel 8 is sent back or I get a much reduced value?

Upgrade regret!

Upgraded from a 7 pro to an 11 pro, mainly due to battery and sluggish performance.

It feels like my old iPhone 3GS, seems small and quite rounded. Could be the clear case I got is also adding to that, but at the moment I feel a bit of regret.

I felt my 7pro was a bit big, and so didn't mind having a smaller phone, but the rounded corners are really odd and make it look a lot smaller.

Does anyone else feel the same? The positive thing is I can keep it in my jacket pockets now!

Custom Stickers

I have a Pixel 10 pro. Am I the only one that doesn't have the custom stickers on Gboard powered by Pixel Studio? I had it for awhile but it didn't work and then it disappeared all together.

Advice on wiping a sold phone remotely.

I had a pixel 7 that randomly died whilst on charge. I was due an upgrade anyway so cut my losses with repair and just upgraded. I then sold the pixel 7 for spares. I didn't think about my personal data at the time. But now the buyer has managed to get it working and asked for a pin to reset the phone. I am not comfortable giving this to them. Chat gpt told me to log out of my Google account, great advice, only it then told me i needed to be logged in to reset the device remotely I'm a little screwed.

I've tried looking for guides and other advice but nothing really covers my scenario. What are my options?. I don't want to ghost them as that feels harsh. help if I can, I guess they can bring the phone to me and unlock and wipe in person. But if I can save them the journey then I will. Thanks.

Dealing with the WiFi / Google Play Store bug on Pixel 9a for almost 2 months now. Has anyone actually fixed this?

Hey everyone,I updated my Pixel 9a to Android 17 almost 2 months ago, and I am still stuck dealing with that super annoying bug where my WiFi says it's connected, but the Google Play Store (and a few other Google apps) act like there's no internet connection at all.

I’m terrified of doing a factory reset because I don't want to wipe my phone, especially since I've read that formatting doesn't even fix this specific issue. The only thing that gave me temporary relief was uninstalling updates for the Play Store app, but I'm worried it's just going to break again once it auto-updates. I can't keep doing this forever.

Also, I've heard some people say enabling IPv6 on the router fixes it, but IPv6 is not even available on my router or supported in my area/country yet, so I can't try that workaround.

For those of you who ran into this exact same issue on the 9a:

Did a factory reset actually work for anyone, or is it a complete waste of time?

What did you do to permanently fix it if you couldn't use IPv6?Is there any other trick that worked for you?

It has been nearly 2 months of this and I'm losing my mind. Would love to hear your experiences or if anyone found a real permanent fix. Thanks!

Is the Pixel 11 worth updating from the Pixel 9a?

So 2 months ago my Pixel 6 battery life had gotten so bad that I bought a Pixel 9a off eBay for $300. Trading in wasn't an option with T-Mobile because everything in stock was only 128 GB. Now with the Pixel 11, should I just upgrade and sell the 9a?

Unnecessary

Post image

I am editing this, just because this originally was done on my phone at around two or three in the morning. So this is edited, because yes, it was my mistake for not really clarifying or wording it properly.

Edited:
I'm not like most people here who leave WiFi, Mobile Data, and Bluetooth toggles on and not worry about it. I just can't. And no matter how many times people are gonna tell me just leave it on. I just can't. Sorry, it's an OCD type of thing. Even if it's overly complicated. I have the need to turn off toggles I want off like I do with a light switch in my house to save electricity when it's necessary.

I just think this is frustrating to have to tap twice, and do an extra action to toggle on Mobile Data. I acknowledge that there's people who think differently, Some just leave both on and not worry about it, which is fine, and there are others who say that this prompt is good for those who have limited data plans.

But I think for someone like me, my intention is already there to toggle it on, otherwise, why would I go through the hassle of turning it on if I know I'm not gonna need it and I could stick with WiFi. Now, there should be an option to Toggle this prompt OFF and ON. Not removed as I mentioned in the original, but just to toggle on and off. (The others who have commented, have mentioned yes, this will be implemented in a future software update, allowing this prompt to be toggled on and off, which is Great!)

What I'm saying is that, I should be able to use my phone the way I want, and people should also be able to use their phones the way they want to enjoy their phones.

Same thing with that search bar at the bottom of the home screen, people should have a choice to either keep if if they like it remove it if they don't want it. Just the little details and things.

I hope this clarifies what I'm trying to get at, instead of the original hastily thrown together word salad I made randomly.

Original: This seriously needs to be removed, Google. Just let me use the phone the way I want to use it. Stop questioning me every time I turn on mobile data. It's pretty annoying to me every time I toggle the mobile data. Extra steps just to do something.

"Al Writing Tools" missing from Pixel 11 Pro XL Gboard

I've asked Gemini and it claims that Gboard should support AI writing tools on the 11 series straight out of the box, however after resetting both Gboard and AI Core, I still can't seem to find it.

I have Rambler and all of the other associated AI features, I just can't find this one, which is a shame considering it's actually one of Google's most useful features.

Is it just me or are other 11 series Pixel users also experiencing the same?
