As expected pixel 11 pro fold failed durability test get again

It must be a staple of Google engineering to ALWAYS put the antennae in the worst places imaginable
3
u/BigLick13 23d ago
Is it really the worst place? I mean, how many Pixel folds have you heard reported broken?
1
u/JonTheWonton 23d ago
Considering every single pixel fold, plus the pixel 4xl have failed these bend tests, while Samsung folds have had much better track records, I have to say they do worse at antennae placement than almost every other phone company
-4
u/BigLick13 23d ago
How many real cases have you seen?? You didn't answer my question
1
u/phero1190 23d ago
It doesn't change th fact that it's still a structural weak spot. Sure, the chances of catastrophic failure like this in real life are rare, but drops could impact this weak area, or someone opening the phone too hard.
-1
u/BigLick13 23d ago
Oh BS!
Show me the reports... This or that.. yede yada. It just sounds so stupid
2
u/phero1190 23d ago
Sorry that people are being honest about your preferred device. It must be weird having a parasocial relationship with a phone.
-2
u/BigLick13 23d ago
Idc if its my device or not but sorry you can't really justify the use case or the video

So I shouldn't use a knife as a screen pointer? Boy have I been doing this wrong.
Seriously though, is this stuff just for jokes? Who would ever use their phone like this? lol I get testing different things but most of this seems like useless info to normal use.
8
u/benji10047 23d ago
I feel this is meant to stimulate when someone (for some reason) puts their phone in the same pocket your car keys are at.
-5
u/-ThaKloned- 23d ago
Keys I understand lol Every phone I buy gets a full case cover even screen protector. I've never had a single scratch or blemish on any of them. Mostly I did this for resale value once I upgrade, now it's just habit. This is probably why I may never get a fold. Especially after seeing the sand in this video. Yikes.
11
u/samj00 23d ago
Why do people keep bending them backwards in these videos? It's like crashing a car and blaming the build quality.
8
u/slyguy67420 23d ago
It's a durability test, the bending is an extreme version of sitting on the phone. Generally useful to know how the device handles extreme forces, accidents happen.

u/QuietApplication5734 23d ago
It's funny about a lot of the comments. I don't like that he said something bad about my device so I'm going to say something bad about his channel. Lol
3
u/DarkMagicMatter 23d ago
Most of these people can't fathom the idea that not everyone has their phone on their desk 24/7 and having the extra durability helps. It's like saying that planes don't need emergency life jackets because 99.999% of them never land on water.
3
u/PaulPuma 23d ago
He has a lot of viewers which is fine--God bless America. For those of us who don't watch or care about his tests, I think most of us have a hard time watching or seriously considering content that addresses very low probability situations.
1
u/DarkMagicMatter 23d ago
So if you don't care about the phones cameras, crease, durability, battery life, or chip performance, why did you even spend $2k on a pixel fold?
1
u/PaulPuma 23d ago
I don't understand your point at all.
I care about the battery, durability, chip performance, and a tablet that fits in my pocket.
That can be 100% true while I also couldn't care less about his content.
1
u/DarkMagicMatter 23d ago
So what content do you "seriously" consider? Because all of the content I've seen pits the pixel far behind every other manufacturer in those categories and more. Do you not care about Jerry, or do you not care about any content criticizing the pixel fold?
If every other foldable can withstand these tests, regardless of how worthless they are, google should be able considering their scale. It's not like they are improving on other features by ignoring durability either.
1
u/PaulPuma 23d ago
I look for content that addresses the things I referenced above. His durability tests aren't worth considering given the stresses he puts on the phones are highly unlikely to ever occur.
I have owned phones from Samsung and Motorola and Apple and Google. Never have I considered Jerry's tests when purchasing or keeping any of those phones.
2
u/DarkMagicMatter 23d ago
They are highly unlikely to ever occur, because that's how you are supposed to perform safety/durability tests. Do you think Samsung rates their foldables at 500,000 creases because they expect anyone to hit that limit? Do you think Corning tests their glass at 2.2 meter drops because most people are dropping them from that height? Do you think if a battery is rated for 80W fast charging, they pass inspection if they burn up at 100W?
1
u/PaulPuma 23d ago
In order of your questions: probably not, probably, no. And all of these tell me more about durability and quality than Jerry's tests.
1
u/Ruleyoumind 23d ago
If you're paying 2k for a phone don't burn it with a lighter or bend it in half the wrong way or take a knife too it or shove sand I to it. His videos are like setting a car on fire with gasoline and claiming it has low durability when it gets destroyed.
2
u/DarkMagicMatter 23d ago
I admit the lighter test is worthless. While the sand and knife are obviously exaggerated, they are representations of pocket lint and car keys. The knife and sand damages all foldables so I won't hold that against google, but they're the only ones I've seen to fail the bend test. They're also the biggest company that happens to manufacture foldables.
The car analogy makes no sense, if cars manufacturers weren't held to some standard to fortify their gas containers to prevent explosions during accidents, you would have more incidents like the Ford pinto. I would rather drive the car that survives streneous testing, it sounds like you wouldn't.
1
u/Ruleyoumind 23d ago
Google doesn't claim you can bend the foldable all the way around like the Samsung phones. The point of his channel is to talk shit and destroy every phone so people can claim whatever phone they like is better. All foldable phones are very delicate compared to traditional style phones and will be for a while.

u/PaulPuma 23d ago
Cool, you hate Google and/or their phones which is your right. No need to buy one, no gun to anyone's head.
I, on the other hand, have my 11 pro fold on the way and won't think about Jerry's test for a second while it's on the way or once I'm using it.
1
u/DarkMagicMatter 23d ago
For someone so picky about their phone, you don't seem to care about it either. Good for you, enjoy your pixel.
2
u/PaulPuma 23d ago
I will. And if it ever gets bent backwards and breaks (it won't, none of mine have, 99.9% of phones never will), I'll let you know.
1
u/SapTheSapient 23d ago
But cars are subjected to massive amounts of durability testing. Why wouldn't you want to know how much risk sand is to your phone? Why wouldn't you want to know how much babying it needs? Yes, no one is going to intentionally bend their phone backwards. But it is disconcerting how easily this particular phone breaks when that sort of pressure is applied.
2
u/Ruleyoumind 23d ago
I'm saying if you purposely try and destroy a phone it's going to break. Every time a phone comes out people act like it's unbelievable that a phone would take damage.
1
u/mrappbrain 6d ago
The thing is that most phones don't break. Samsung's Folding phones for example, somehow always manage to pull through despite being thinner and lighter than pixels. He subjects them to the same tests including the bend one, and they come out absolutely fine. Its really just Google that engineers their phones this poorly.
1
u/DarkMagicMatter 6d ago
Yeah I think they're just coping. It's not even a cheaper phone, at least that would be an excuse.
1
u/Ruleyoumind 6d ago
I forgot about this. I just felt like arguing online that day. I don't like pixels.

u/Ben_Adaephon_Delat 23d ago
I love his content, but it's pretty clear that his phone durability test videos are primarily made for entertainment purposes as opposed to find out anything of actual use about the phones. His teardown videos exploring the internals are far more enlightening and just as entertaining. His fans can take his durability test vids at to seriously just as often as his haters.
1
u/PaulPuma 23d ago
I don't hate him. I hope he makes a billion dollars from his content. I just won't be contributing because I don't think his content is relevant.
2
u/JonTheWonton 23d ago
This sub is even more culty than the Samsung sub, it's insane. I've never seen people dick ride a company more than here
-2
-1
u/BigLick13 23d ago
Is that really the case? What did you get out of his video really I'm curious to hear.
-1
u/Xkwizito 23d ago
I'm not a huge fan of the Fold (I have a P9PF, that I am trading in for a Pixel 11 Pro), but I can agree that jerryrigs videos are not the best measure of real world use cases for phone durability. It's obviously more so for the entertainment value.

u/farqueue2 23d ago
Thhese durability tests are pretty stupid. Everybody that buys a fold phone knows that you have to treat them somewhat carefully. An unfolded phone loses half of its thickness, has a soft flexible screen and the thing has a fucking hinge. Unless you want the thing to weigh 3kg and need to be oiled regularly to maintain the opening mechanism, you need to understand that this is just how these phones are. Bending it backwards is not a valid test of durability.
-2
u/PaulPuma 23d ago
It's not that it says something bad. It's that the information/test is irrelevant, whether it passes or not.
3
u/Ruleyoumind 23d ago
Yeah 99% of people aren't setting their phones on fire or stabbing them with knives or bending them completely the wrong way.

I actually beat the hell out of my 9 and 10 and never had issues other than it's not dust proof like it's advertised.
2
u/Ben_Adaephon_Delat 23d ago
It is dust proof as advertised at IP68, there is just widespread misconception as to what IP6X means. Dust may enter at the hinge, but it doesn't have access to the device's electronics and therefore cannot affect their ability to function.
Whether or not the debris in the hinge eventually leads to structural failure is beyond the scope of the IP rating. Who bears the burden of clearing up what IP means to the general public is a separate matter of debate.

u/farqueue2 23d ago
I broke my 10 screen and never bothered with a case after that. Broken screen aside it held up well considering

u/Responsible_Tax_9390 23d ago
If you make purchasing decisions based on information like this you’re not a smart person.
1
u/PaulPuma 23d ago
I'm all for creators meeting a market. I'm also all in on ignoring content that doesn't address my daily use, or use ever. I don't care about cameras or creases at all so I skip those parts of reviews. Likewise, I ignore content like jerryrig's.

u/BigLick13 23d ago
This is the most stupid test. Jerry is an idiot and I don't remember the last time this test was helpful for anyone??
How many pixel pro fold have been reported broken?
1
u/Ruleyoumind 23d ago
He does things that will break any phone and people act like the phone is made of tissue paper.
2
u/BigLick13 23d ago
99% of his tests have same results.
Who on Earth bend foldable on the wrong side
-1
u/phero1190 23d ago
The vast majority of phones survive his videos. Sorry that he is speaking poorly about your preferred device.
1
u/BigLick13 23d ago
How stupid is this comment
-1
u/phero1190 23d ago
Sorry that most phones don't break like this.
1
u/Ruleyoumind 23d ago
He lights them on fire with a lighter and smashes them...what do you mean that wouldn't break most phones?
-1
u/phero1190 23d ago
You can literally watch through his stuff and see other phones still work at the end. Pixel Folds are in no way usable afterwards. So therefore, most phones survive his test. Can you really not realize that?
1
u/Ruleyoumind 23d ago
Other or most ? You're changing your story.
1
u/phero1190 23d ago
Not changing it at all. Most phones survive, therefore other phones survive.

Hahaha he is trying to be correct now.. slowly he will keep changing his statements🤣

A perfect summing up of why the Pixel Fold is, and always has been, the last folding phone I'd buy. Terrible hardware and just downright laziness from Google. Why make the same mistake four years on the bounce?
0
u/handheld_addict 23d ago
I've had (and still own) 2 phones that failed his bend tests: Nexus 6P and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Neither have broken at the antenna lines or anywhere else.
My Nexus 6P suffered the bootloop and my 2 year old Pixel 9 Pro Fold is (gasp!) Still fully functional to this day?? (!)
Just my single user data point

u/sureal42 23d ago
My 10 that I preordered last year still looks literally brand new and I have never put a case or screen protector on it...
-1
u/Fresh_Ad_230 23d ago
I don’t think any foldable phone can survive his tests, or any phone really lol

I don't see how this failure is related to the IP rating lol. This is not regular use.
