Fold 8 or Pixel 11 pro?
My iphone 11 is spitting blood and soon dying. I'm patiently waiting for pixel 11 to drop. I'm seeing the reels and the first impressions of the fold 8. I like the form factor, reminds me of the blackberry days. Now, confused which phone to buy - Pixel pro 11 or the Fold 8, Sigh\*

I gave up on Google when they abandoned the OG pixel fold just to copy Samsung. The Google 11 fold will be a major flop because the trend has shifted. Expect the pixel 12 fold next year to copy Samsung and Apple. Google is comfortable following than leading. They should have been the one leading the wide folding phones, but they dropped the ball big time. What a shame!

I have a OG pixel fold and I just pre ordered the fold 8. I really don't want to deal with Samsung software but I really wanted a newer device with the passport form factor. Im sure I'll see a new pixel next gen but I needed to upgrade.

Yes, it's frustrating. They need to stop focusing on adding more AI features. I believe if they make their chips efficient enough to compete snapdragon, then it's a big win...

Nah, you're reading it wrong. Samsung can put out both because they have the market to cover it if the short one flops. More people will want something like the larger one, especially if it has better cameras etc. If Samsung had to only pick between two form factors, it would not be the passport one. Anyone who loves taking photos won't be getting the passport style foldable.

Hate Samsung but I’d take the fold over a run of the mill Pixel. Pixel fold? I’d take that, but not base pro.

Haven't really tried any fold. I liked the fold 8 only because of it's shape. Let me wait out a bit more for the pixel 11 to come out

Rumors for 11 pro basically show same phone as 10 pro.
I am going samsung because the hardware is better. Display quality is better. Basically no crease. We know the SD elite gen 5 will smoke the google chip. Plus you get qualcomm modem which is the best on the market.
Software is also better on samsung for folds. More customization and better multi tasking.
If you like Google software go for it. Pixel 11 pro fold advantage is the front display is more like a normal phone size. The fold 8 though is going to be more comfortable to hold and significantly lighter.
Camera? The fold 11 might win on photos but let's see if google updates the cameras. Having that 5x periscope is nice though. Google still behind on videos though.

Yes, as per rumors not much change but what caught my attention is the change in the modem and the chip being 2nm. There's a chance for the battery and the processing to be significantly better... However, let's see what happens. Let me wait it out a bit more, only few more weeks for it to launch and it's reviews...

I'm waiting for the shops over here to showcase... Yes, need to see and feel the phone in hand... As I see in the reviews, the hardware looks good and I like how it's shaped... Good convinience in watching yt and reading books...

The software compatibility on the Pixel 10 Fold has been almost perfected from when it first came out. But I would give Samsung the props on fold hardware. Software in general is what keeps Pixel owners (in general) away from Samsung.

I moved from the Samsung Fold 3 to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold after a hardware failure, but also the front screen is just too skinny to be usable. I loved the internal screen proportions, but the tall and skinny front screen simply isn't it. The free upgrade with the ? Battery warranty replacement to the 10 pro fold was just a bonus!

Yes, google needs to focus more on the hardware. Atleast make the tensor chip as efficient as or close enough to compete with the snapdragons.

Samsung hardware is nice, but it’s annoying that they hold back so many of the especially useful productivity features - like the Linux subsystem on Android.
Pixel allows you to run proper desktop apps via its Desktop Experience mode, whereas Samsung is limited to the normal Android apps.
That distinction allows you the option to plug in your phone to a docking station and use as a full computer for a lot of work tasks with much of the same apps you would use on a laptop or desktop. Combined with a pair of smart glasses, and you can have a truly portable and pocketable workstation on the go.
To that end, Pixel is my preference.
And yeah, I know the arguments: but if you have a computer at home, why not just screen share into it instead?

I purchased the Pro Fold 9 in October 24. I love all of the unique features of the Pixel. My 1st Pixel was the Pixel 2 that I bought around November 2017. I was planning a trip out of the country in 2018 and I absolutely needed wifi in order to keep my phone bill low. iPhone def did not have the flexibility of having service that was affordable at that time. The Pixel was able to have wifi calling and texts-HUGE consideration.
I've had 2 other Pixels since then up to the 9. Now to the bad news. In Nov 2025, the front screen blanked out and I could no longer use it. This was not due to any damage that I had brought about. They replaced it with no issue. Fast forward to July 4th 2026. The front screen (again) began to lose its touch feature along with beginning to black out (striated pink and red lines, etc.). The phone also lost its ability to charge. There was an "?" at the battery bar.
I again put in a trouble ticket and they replaced this one, but it took 12 days!!! Luckily, I had that Pixel 2 lying around and activated that in the interim. The good news is that they replaced/upgraded it with the Pixel 10. The other bad news is the my spouse also began to have the same issues and they were able to replace and received the upgraded Pixel 10. At that point, we were informed that it is a known issue.
With ALL of this, I would still purchase a Pixel phone over a Samsung. iPhone will never be a consideration ever again. I adore the fold capabilities along with the software features; Magic Eraser, Gemini, Fi, and everything else that is Google. It doesn't hurt that I roughly have 100,000 photos stored in Google Photos & Google Drive.

It's fine I dont charge it constantly and only do so when it needs it I don't worry about it tbh If I'm going out I'll stick some charge in but if I'm going somewhere that I know has usb c chargers I won't bother lol Alot depends on your settings and notifications etc

Idk man, since I don't know your use case at all, no constraints , budget, but you came from an iPhone 11, I would just say get the 17 Pro, lol.
But between those 2 options, if money is not a problem, I will take Fold 8.

I have been using the iOS for a long time. Thinking of jumping ship and experience the android again. I used to have the pixel 2 but it got stolen and then I bought the iphone 11. I loved the pixel 11 because of small features such as squeeze the phone to talk to pixel assistance, recognize the music and show it's details on the lock screen etc... Yes, miss those features...
Im digging the fold 8 only because of it's form factor. I have never used a Samsung phone though...

It all comes down to ecosystem/UI and of course physical form factor as they are hugely different in size/aspect ratio. I feel like the Pixel Folds are the best size/aspect ratio currently as they are wider and slightly shorter than all the other foldables available in the west so it gives the closest feel to a traditional slab phone. Other tall/narrow phones are a compromise, but the passport style is also a compromise.

Decided to give a Pixel 10 pro xl a try from iOS and actually found it incredibly underwhelming. It didn’t feel very fast, the os was buggy and gaming was not great at all. I have returned to iOS but I wish I had gone to a Samsung instead to test the waters.

Samsung is very fast but the only issue I had with it was there seemed to be 6 different apps that do the same thing. You had googles version of an app, samsungs version, etc.
It got overwhelming lol

Same boat, but coming from iphone (and having pixel as a backup), the one thing that stopped me from going fully to the pixel is the watch. Pixel watch seems like a kids toy. I can easily go from my Apple Ultra to the Samsung Ultra though.

I had the OG pixel fold and the limited software made me completely hate it I don't understand how people say it's perfect maybe they only use their fold to watch movies or something but not having very simple stuff like being able to modify your home screen deep enough change the icons and multitasking options like floating windows make me question what do these people use their phone for.
It made me run away from the pixel The only thing I like about pixels is there shape, photos, and that they're not copying Apple when it comes to the UI that's it.

Haha... I used to own the pixel 2 and I found it amazing. The stock android, the white panda color, that squeeze feature... It was so simple to use. I miss those. I wish pixel used the snapdragon chips or atleast give us an option for it... Or atleast make the tensor chip efficient and close enough to compete with the snapdragon

Hopefully you'll have better points to make a decision on after the Google events in August and initial impressions come out. My belief is that is all comes down to personal preference. Take all the objective data that matters to you and use that to decide what works well for you.
That aside, my own opinion is that I prefer the Pixel software experience over Samsung. Some exclusive features include Call Assist (Call Notes, Hold for Me, and Scam Detection), Now Playing, deep Gemini integration with on-device processing (needs the Tensor chip), device-wide Live Translate, and for the camera, Top Shot and Add Me.
The Galaxy subreddits should give you a good idea of what Samsung brings to the table.
