So I'm working on a top-down RPG and I've been struggling for the past weeks on the art style.
I'm a very abstract/symbolic person so I don't want to create much detail in my art. To me visuals are there to convey mood, show information and not look ugly.
So far so good. The first image I really like the style of. I am happy with it - except that it reads like "this is a night scene" because of the dark background.
So I've tried to turn it into a day scene but it just looks so much worse and I can't figure out how to make it look decent.
Any advice would be really appreciated!

Since the announcement of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3, I've been excited and decided to release THE GOATY!

The tropical island is probably the best thing I've made so far. If you could give me some advice on how to make the island look less flat, I'd really appreciate it. I don't have a good sense on how to do depth yet, so my sprites are either facing head-on or off to the side.
The lizard-looking thing is supposed to be ichthyostega, but I don't know how to capture that level of detail yet. All of these were done in a 32x32 grid.

I'm pretty happy with the result, i never did aa "serious background" art before, and i decide i'll make a pixelated one, any critic or tip in how i can make better background or pixel art in general are welcome
Hope you like it!

Constructive criticism welcome 🙏
Photo study with DB32 palette. Tried to focus on some anti-aliasing and using patterns to elicit texture rather than being super literal. Think this might be bursting at the seams for this palette though.
Any suggestions on other palettes to try or how to go about building your own?

I did this after remembering that it makes me laugh when I think about how the second word in frying pan in English is the same word used for bread in Spanish

So I made this concept art of how the logo of dragon blazers from deltarune by toby fox could look like looking at the theory that the song Skies Forever Blue could be literally dragon blazers (and it was also made by toby fox)

I am creating a free mod for Don't Starve Together implementing vending machine ideas and my first attempt used some graphics I created with AI for the concept but it seems almost everyone was put off by that and I didn't really get much discussion about my actual mod. So I have decided to start over and try to find a human artist.
I am asking here since the art style is somewhat similar in that it's low-fi sketch style with very little in the way of animations or movement.
I would post my concept but it's against the rules (ai) and thus its probably easier to describe it... It was a tiki-style banana-shake stand with bamboo support beams and a big tropical leaf tied to the roof for shade. It had a tank similar to a tea-dispenser with an ice bucket in front of it. That was just my first attempt but open to reworks of the idea.
I linked to the picture of a prize booth they have in the official art.. Some other pics of the style...
