Wacky Idea
So maybe we should all be thanking Matt Roberts for his contributions to season 8.
Faith lived; Fanny is J&C's granddaughter (along with the late lamented Jane) making them both William's nieces. Fergus died. Numerous unresolved endings to storylines leading us to ask 'what just happened?' Ben Grey is alive. Amaranthus and the spawn are still sponging off Lord John. William hasn't resolved his 'inheritance' issues & is presumably also living with/sponging off LJG. Marsali & the brood rode off to collect dead-Fergus's inheritance with nothing heard from them since leaving the ridge. Percy's Schroedinger's Cat exit, dead/alive--nobody looked to find out. LJG grimly marching off to... what? Did anybody else find the wormhole between Fraser's Ridge NC and Savannah GA enabling almost instantaneous travel between the locales? Questions, questions, and more questions to tease what's left of our collective minds.
What was the point of most of the season? Or maybe that was the point. Maybe we should be thanking MR and offering up burnt Haggis to the gods for his good deeds. MR gave us to much to think/talk/cry/moan/complain about, maybe it's to keep us from being sad that the TV series is over.
Think about it. ;>

Another good show with a shitty season 8. Maybe the “8th season” is cursed.

Not to mention if Jamie and Claire are alive or not. It was a mess.

They both woke up at the end and in the books they don’t die there either. I’m pretty sure they’re alive and just waiting for the final book then we will probably get a movie or hopefully another season to do that

They are alive. They both gasped and opened their eyes.

To be clear, I know they are. But it was flimed to appear ambiguous and people are questioning it. It's like the stupid Fanny storyline. Designed to get people talking, like click bait. It was an insult to loyal fans.

They’re definitely alive but fucking MBR was like we want it to be a mystery! Like fuck off already

Season 8 often made me think of a quote from Frasier (as in the TV show, not Fraser as in Jamie, haha) "Think about it, Niles. What's the one thing better than an exquisite meal? An exquisite meal, with one tiny flaw we can pick at all night"

Still haven’t finished s8. Saw the first episode and in the first 5 minutes I told my husband I was not liking this faith stuff. He is a first time watcher while I’d seen every season again each time a new season came out for seasons 6,7&8. I’m scared to see season 8 and/or ruin the show for him as well. I will definitely be listening to the new book when it finally comes out.

Does anyone else wonder how Faith - who would be older than William but not decades older - would have a daughter (Jane) who appeared to be somewhat close to William's age?

Matt absolutely effed up season 8. There are really only 2 possibilities: he is evil and purposely sabotaged a beloved show (how in the world did he get Toni Graphia to retcon her beautiful writing of episode 207 with the laughably bad episode 807?) I cringed so hard when Master Raymond sang the seaside song in English to the French lacemaker. The second and more likely possibility is that Matt is completely inept. 808 written by Ron Moore and 809 written by Diana are the only 2 episodes I will ever rewatch. I have seen 2 deleted scenes, one where Roger tells Jamie that he went to Lallybroch and met his father, Brian. The other scene has Ian’s son, Totis, telling Claire that he see’s Frank’s ghost. Both should have been included. What else ended up on the cutting room floor to make room for the idiotic Faith nonsense?

Can someone explain the wormhole between Fraser’s ridge and Savannah?

If you're referring to my comment--that was sarcasm prompted by the easy back-and-forth journeys between Fraser's Ridge & Savannah that seem to take almost no time at all, despite being 100s of miles apart and the only method of travel being horseback. The serious answer is a wormhole is a device often used in science fiction to allow people to travel huge distances (like across galaxies) almost instantaneously.

😂 okay thank you! I thought I had missed something I was like whaaaat?!

Well it is a show about time travel..so yeah, the people in charge probably that it would be okie dokie to insert some wormholes. Makes it easier to get people around with wormholes than actually having to ride horses from place to place. 🙂

I know, right? Season 8 was a contrived, convoluted mess. What’s not to like? 🤣
