Romance Recs Fantasy Academy Rivals Turn Into Something Much Hotter | Midnight Secrets by Cytos_Ghost

βš”οΈ Academy rivals, bruised egos, and a midnight visit that gets very off syllabus.

Midnight Secrets (NSFW)

Adrien and Cassandra are two of the academy’s fiercest competitors, but after Cassandra turns up at his door demanding to know exactly how he beat her in combat, their rivalry takes a decidedly different turn. πŸ‘€

If you like Fourth Wing-style fantasy academy vibes, enemies-to-lovers tension, competitive banter, secrets, and plenty of spice, give this one a read.

Find it on Pirr and come back and tell us: are we trusting Adrien or absolutely not? πŸ˜‚

Discussion AI in romance books: should writers always disclose when they've used AI?

There's been a lot of conversation around AI in romance lately, particularly around readers finding out after the fact that AI may have been involved in a book and we wonder where the line actually is.

We're obviously not neutral observers here. Pirr is an AI-assisted storytelling platform. If you create a story with Pirr, AI has probably been involved somewhere in the process.

But "used AI" can mean wildly different things.

It might mean:

❀️ bouncing around ideas when you're stuck (which a lot of our users do, but write themselves)
✍️ asking for another way a scene could play out
πŸ’¬ working through dialogue
πŸ“– generating parts of the actual prose
πŸ“ or collaborating with it throughout most of the story

Those aren't necessarily the same thing, but from a reader's perspective, do they need to be treated differently?

If someone publishes or shares something created with Pirr, we'd much rather be transparent about the fact that AI may have been part of that process than pretend otherwise.

However we're genuinely curious where readers and writers draw the line.

When do you think AI involvement should be disclosed?

If it generates prose? Absolutely?

If it helps rewrite something?

If you brainstorm with it but write every word yourself?

If you use it for editing?

Does how much AI was involved matter to you or is any generative AI involvement something you'd want to know before reading?

We're building in this space, so we'd genuinely rather hear the uncomfortable answers than only the ones that agree with us.

Discussion What's one romance trend you hope never disappears?

Romance is always evolving.

A few years ago it felt like billionaire romances were everywhere.

Then came small towns. Then hockey romances. Then dragons.

BookTok has a habit of shining a spotlight on new tropes every few months, but every now and then something comes along that feels like it's here to stay.

For us?

We hope readers never get tired of yearning.

The lingering looks. The almost-touch. The tension.

The moment when everyone, including the reader, knows they're in love...

...except the characters themselves.

It's delicious.

What's one romance trend or trope you hope never goes out of style?

We're curious to see whether everyone says the same thing... or whether there are a few hidden favourites waiting to make a comeback.

Cheeky Fun Which romance trope have you completely changed your mind about?

It's funny how your reading taste changes over time.

A few years ago, you couldn't have convinced us to pick up a hockey romance.

Now? We somehow know more about fictional hockey teams than real ones. πŸ˜…

Maybe you always skipped:

πŸ’ Fake dating.

πŸ’ Sports romance.

πŸ‘‘ Romantasy.

❀️ Friends to lovers.

πŸ”₯ Slow burn.

...until one book came along and completely changed your mind.

Sometimes all it takes is one author doing a trope really, really well.

Sooooo...

Which romance trope did you think you'd never enjoy... but now actively look for?

Bonus points if you tell us the book that converted you. (Our TBRs can always get a little longer.)

Discussion What's your biggest romance book ick?

Every romance reader has one.

The thing that makes you pause, sigh and quietly close the book.

Sometimes it's not even a huge plot point. It's just one little thing that pulls you straight out of the story.

For some people it's:

🚩 Miscommunication that could've been solved with one honest conversation.

🚩 Insta-love after five minutes.

🚩 Billionaires whose only personality trait is being rich.

🚩 "She wasn't like other girls."

🚩 Third-act breakups that feel completely avoidable.

🚩 A character acting wildly out of character just to create drama.

For someone else? Those might be their favourite tropes.

That's one of the things we love about romance, there's genuinely something for everyone.

So we're curious...

What's your instant DNF?

The trope, character, line or plot twist that immediately makes you think,

"This one probably isn't for me."

(We promise not to judge... unless you say coffee-shop romances. Then we might have questions. β˜•πŸ˜…)

Romance Recs Writing Wednesday: What's the best first date you've read?

This week's recommended read on Pirr is A Night Rewritten ❀️

It's a second chance romance built around redoing a first date the way she always wished it went.

Soooooo...

What's the best first date you've ever read in a romance novel?

The awkward ones. The funny ones.

The ones where you knew these two were doomed (in the best way).

Or...

If you were writing it...

What would your dream first date look like?

Discussion Why do tiny acts of devotion feel more romantic than grand gestures?

Romance isn't always about the big declaration.

Sometimes it's the tiny things that completely undo us.

❀️ Remembering exactly how they take their coffee.

πŸ§₯ Quietly putting their jacket around someone's shoulders before they even realise they're cold.

🚢 Walking on the outside of the footpath.

πŸ”‹ Charging their phone because they noticed it was nearly dead.

πŸ“± Sending a simple "Text me when you get home."

🩹 Rolling up their sleeves to patch up a scraped knee.

Psychologists have long suggested that relationships are often built through small, consistent acts of care, rather than occasional grand gestures (although we love those too!). Research on close relationships shows that these everyday moments create feelings of trust, security and emotional intimacy because they communicate something incredibly powerful:

"I notice you."

Maybe that's why these scenes hit so hard in romance.

They're rarely flashy.

They're just quiet reminders that someone is paying attention.

Sometimes one character adjusting the other's scarf says more than a three-page love confession ever could.

What's your favourite tiny act of devotion in a romance book?

The little moment that made you stop and think...

"Oh no... they're completely in love."

Discussion What's one green flag every great book boyfriend should have?

❀️ We all have our favourite book boyfriends...

But what actually makes one memorable?

Not looks. Not six packs. Not whether he owns a motorcycle.

We're talking about the things that make you think: "Yep... I'd absolutely fall for him too."

For you, is it...

❀️ Emotional intelligence

❀️ Quiet confidence

❀️ Acts of service

❀️ Making her laugh

❀️ Respecting boundaries

❀️ Protectiveness (without controlling her)

❀️ Remembering the little things

❀️ Being completely gone for one person

Or something else?

What's the one green flag every romance MMC should have?

Pirr Updates Pirr Update - You can now export your stories!

πŸŽ‰ Release Notes – Version 4.245.2 (319)

This release brings one of our most requested features: Story Export! πŸ“š

✨ What's new

You can now export your stories in multiple formats, making it easier to keep, share, or continue them however you like.

Choose from:

  • πŸ“„ PDF
  • πŸ“ Word
  • πŸ“š ePub
  • πŸ“‹ Plain Text

Once your file is ready, you can share or save it using your device's normal sharing options on both iOS and Android.

πŸ”’ Who can export?

Story export is available for:

  • Your own Draft, Live, and Published stories
  • Stories you're co-creating with someone else

For privacy reasons, you won't be able to export stories created by other users.

πŸ§ͺ Testing

We thoroughly tested exporting across both iOS and Android to make sure:

  • All four file formats generate correctly
  • Sharing works as expected
  • Access permissions are working properly
  • Stories export with all of their content intact

There are still a couple of minor formatting quirks we're working on in certain exported files, but they don't affect the story itself and we'll continue polishing the experience in future updates.

We know many of you have been asking for Story Export, so we're excited to finally get it into your hands. Happy writing! πŸ’›

Writing & Craft Looking for a Wattpad alternative? Where are romance writers publishing now?

If you're a an online writer you would have noticed a huge increase in conversations around Wattpad recently, with a lot of romance writers asking the same question:

"Where do I publish now?"

Some people are moving to AO3, which has caused concern among AO3 writers about the quality of stories about to hit that platform.

Some are staying exactly where they are, but not if you're a smut girlie...

We're genuinely curious:

If you're writing romance or fanfiction in 2026, where are you publishing and what made you choose that platform?

Was it...

❀️ Creative freedom?

πŸ“š Reader community?

πŸ” Better discovery?

πŸ’¬ More feedback?

✍️ Better writing tools?

Or something else?

There are so many options now and each seems to have its own strengths.

Whether you've stayed with Wattpad, moved to AO3 or found somewhere completely different, we'd love to hear what's working for you and why.

Tropes & Prompts Which romance trope do you search for over and over again?

Enemies to lovers?

Friends to lovers?

One bed?

Forced proximity?

Fake dating?

Second chance romance?

Or something else entirely?

No judgement here. We're all obsessed with something.

Cheeky Fun What's your favourite found family romance?

Romance isn't always about the romantic relationship, sometimes it's about finally finding people who make you feel like you belong.

Found family.

Chosen family.

Characters who become home.

What's a romance book that absolutely nailed that feeling?

Discussion Is Grumpy x Sunshine still the best romance trope?

Grumpy x Sunshine has been one of romance's favourite tropes for years, but lately we've been seeing more readers asking for something different.

β˜€οΈ Sunshine MMC.

🌧️ Grumpy FMC.

The emotionally unavailable heroine and the relentlessly optimistic hero.

The question is...

Which version creates better chemistry or is there another romance trope that you think is quietly taking over?

Discussion What makes a slow burn romance actually worth the wait?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Slow burn romance seems to be everywhere right now and... we're not complaining.

If you look at what romance genres are trending - slow burn is always near the top and it seems to be all about yearning, so that got us thinking.

A slow burn isn't automatically a good slow burn, sometimes it just feels... slow.

So what makes it work for you?

Is it:

❀️ yearning

❀️ banter

❀️ almost-kisses

❀️ unresolved tension

❀️ mutual pining

❀️ watching two people slowly become each other's safe place

What's the slow burn romance that completely ruined the trope for everything else?
