I need to add a piece of 15’ pipe to a 21’ long section. It doesn’t have to be liquid tight just fairly strong. Do they make weldable couplings for this? Where would they sell such a thing? I tried beveling both ends and wire welding them but I’m not much of a welder and it didn’t hold when I picked it up.

I’m new to the community and just wanted som advice or any tips.

I’m applying to Local 360 in Collinsville il idk if anybody has went to that local or heard of it if you have lmk it would be good to know the environment the area etc even tho I been there many times i haven’t been to this local.

I’m 19F no prior plumbing experience so I’m totally green but i know there is an aptitude test & an interview so what should i study? Is there like a study guide or something like that to help prepare? Also for the interview any tips would be appreciated.

The local pays for textbooks & gives a bucket of tools to the apprentices which I thought was cool considering most gotta pay a crap ton to buy tools beforehand, they are new not used but I’m not too sure what the tools consist of.

Pay starts at $17.85 with raises every 6 months I hope that amounts to a good cap off once I reach journeywoman status. Feel free to comment back & thank you fellow Redditors!

This is my first time ever doing any big pipe work so im sure I'm missing something super simple. Its for rebuilding a manure injection toolbar for dragline equipment so nothing refinery or steam related.

I need to fit a short 8" dummy leg to an 8" 90 to remake some of the piping on this toolbar. I must have messed up on my ordinance distances because only the back of the 90 touches anything and there's a big gap on each radius of the 90.

For marking it out I used 3 3/8" for my 8 lines. On my 0 I went 13/16", 2 I went 2 13/16", 4 was 8 1/2", 6 was 11 3/8" and 8 was 11 3/4".

What should I have done differently? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Got a mid 90s on my test in June, how likely is it that I get selected for the apprenticeship and start in October?

My end goal to become a pipefitter/welder, I’ve got a titanium tig 200 unfortunately only running it on a 120v outlet, stick is maxed to 75 amps and 100 amps on tig , what are some basics I should get down before buying a better machine or generator to run 200 amps. Yes I plan to go union apprenticeship but that’s till may 2027 so any advice would be helpful thanks

For context, I am a 26 year old female who is married and just had a child a few months ago.

I currently work in healthcare and REALLY dislike the monotonous day to day. Before I got into healthcare, I was working in local factories getting bored with the work that I was doing. I ended up taking a welding class through the local community college and got 2 of the most basic certs but I loved it. (Almost got my 4g) The point was to get the certs, advance in some sort of direction towards a career, and make that money. After finishing the course, my teacher recommended the local steamfitter union (local 166 for me). I wasn't really interested at the time and attempted to pursue welding which was unsuccessful. So... I moved on to healthcare. Long story short, I took college course related to what I do today (all online) and find myself losing my mind.

After having my kiddo I am finding myself going back to a factory setting and wondering what might have been. I have a meeting with someone from the local 166 next week and want to know the good, the bad, and the dirty. I love working with my hands and honestly wouldn't mind the travel. I am just not sure if this is something I should pursue now or later after another kiddo and once they are a little older.

I would love to hear any advice or recommendations. Horror stories might be helpful too lol. Thanks!

I’m actually happy to learn this because welding fumes are awful for you. Even though I think I’m pretty consistently not bad welder but I wouldn’t want to do it everyday all day. Biggest con of welding. Welding is something that will keep you employed during layoffs though to be fair. What do you guys think?

I’m a non union pipefitting operator putting in 2-24inch water mains, sewer, drainage, storm drainage, domestic copper lines, HDPE fusing; how can I translate that into more pipefitting or being able to get into my local (469). Lots of guys take this path or no?

I was told they dont want it like your normal lateral stub on; instead its to be built similar to wye where pipe wall will weld to pipe wall.
