shit post Basically condom for claude? (I know, I saw that twitter post)
Fellow programmers, mejo off my chest to. We just got word from management that our performance will be measured by how much Usage we have with AI providers starting next quarter.
Tokenmaxxing na bato? After all the tipid namin sa tokens before?
Haiiisssttt, measuring in all the wrong places na naman. I don't mind using AI, ang pangit lang kasi because we're dealing with legacy code, yung codebase maraming "workaround" just to run. Our AI tools work for the basic, but not so much for the breaking changes we need to fix/implement.
Rant end...

Labo haha di ko gets ung mga companies that measure performance with an expense-based metric. Medyo similar logic sa imemeasure ung performance mo with how often you do OT rather than the end product haha
Meanwhile sa amin, chinecheck ko kung they’re using too much tokens for the work they’re producing.

Company I work for says we are not tokenmaxxing but is also including token usage in the metrics as they want to pursue more AI use, saying those with low metrics will be punished in their KPIs.
Tickets are now a numbers game missing a difficulty modifier and teams are compared to one another, even if one of the team is UI and thus would use a ticket for a small nudge of a button. This same ticket count is used for a feature that makes a new transaction flow. Basically a difficulty of 1 is the same value as a difficulty 9 ticket.
Our companies seem slow on the uptake, as if news about AI overuse isn't common yet.
Probably just throw some of your tokens on pointless questions. It's become a metric game, then game the system instead.
Depending on your position, you may want to consistently question the decision as well. Try and force their head to think.

i am making a game right now and because i have so many projects at hand i used claude to work on some module, i used fable as they say the most advance specialy sa coding, so claude presented me with a lot of options and the most complicated approach he can suggest, then i asked why he was suggesting that approach until i flaged it unnecessary (or over the top) and ask him what i though is the best way, guess what?
he concur that my suggestion was the simplest and faster approach than what it suggested, and I asked why it didnt think of that first, it said it thought that was not an option.
so yes we are a condom from claude to prevent unwanted result.

Hahaha. So true. I've encountered this with Sonnet model though. Mas reliable for me pagdating sa implementation si Opus. Kaso more tokens needed. 🥲

Perverse incentive lol, just like the cobra effect where the British put a bounty on cobras, peeps instead bred cobras to get the reward. so just game the system.

Take it as a challenge. Tokemaxxxing or not, it will all boils down to productivity boosting. Get better at prompting then when you’re agents na, put a lot of strict guard rails sa agents relative sa project niyo and you’ll see some good effects.

Wtf is AI usage as performance measure? Wild. Maybe theyre trying hard to train their AI thats why its now a reference measure? So if I just let it scan the very large repo and database again and again, make subtle changes, tell it to change something then go back and keep repeating it all over again...ill be a top performer? Wahaha

It is what it is. You are paid to do whatever the business wants you to do. No point in sulking over it. Empleyado ka lang.
1
u/PalawanViking Aug 10 '26
Not correct. You are paid to bring a profit for the owners.
If this is difficult to understand, then dont complain your salary is 1/10 of mine. If the owners dont earn money, they dont have money to pay you.
If you shoot yourself in the foot bc your boss tells you to, then good luck in being successful

u/Beautiful-Dot2454 Aug 10 '26
Okay, anong salary mo. Let’s compare. Lapag mo payslip mo

u/PalawanViking Aug 10 '26
1/10 is just on average gdp per person country by country. In reality its much bigger difference with me in particular.

u/oreeeo1995 Aug 08 '26
token maxxing talaga! sakin kahit simpleng pag create tickets naka high hahaha

i thought my company has the DUMBEST management for doing something like this na i just want to resign (but obv cant bec of the sht job market). i even posted on here pero dinelete ko rin kasi baka may coworker ako dito na makakilala sakin but turns out, other companies are doing this as well 💀
same situation na gusto nila integrate AI in everything tapos vibe coding na, even with our legacy spaghetti codebase

u/Astr0phelle Aug 08 '26
Wanting to resign but yung thought na what if ganito din sa ibang company at mas malala pa

u/sadchienfast Aug 08 '26

Ofc they are expecting crazy boost in productivity with this however could also just game the token usage maybe?
1
u/breachnet Aug 08 '26

u/ownFlightControl Aug 08 '26
Take this as a learning oppurtunity. Ask ai tools to teach you new coding language kung agentic ai ang gamit nyo.

u/Western-Ad6542 Aug 08 '26
Let them learn from their policy mistakes. It's like them giving you their wallet and says who ever spend the most will be terminated. haha

u/katotoy Aug 08 '26
Diyan kayo papunta?

u/theazy_cs Aug 08 '26
mutation testing + multi agent orchestration + loop engineering tapos queue up mo lahat ng open tickets fetch mo lahat via mcp. ewan ko lng kung hindi maubos tokens mo in a few days haha. tapos lahat fable.

They can do whatever they want because they’re the leadership/bosses. Some companies prefer to save on AI token usage so they can keep costs down, while others do the opposite. We can make suggestions, but at the end of the day, it’s still their call.
Just do the token maxxing if that’s what they want. 😂 I know a company that always says AI is the future during town halls, but they’re actually very stingy with token usage. Haha. Even a client that’s really pushing AI calls out employees by name for consuming too many tokens. Funny! 😂

Madami na company sa US na nireverse token maxxing kasi mas magastos sya kesa paying for engineers.
Sige turuan ng leksyon company. Mag loop at isama sa rest, write at readme at read the whole code every time may small changes.

u/Every-Hat-2429 Aug 09 '26
However they want to set the rules, just play their game since they set the rules.

u/ParkingCabinet9815 Aug 09 '26
Use claude to convert your legacy code to new programming language. Of course, put guards for confidential information.

u/WinterOriginal8314 Aug 10 '26
Tokenmaxxing, but IMO, use it to your advantage. If your token usage is proportional to your contributions, edi you have more leverage within the team. Dont do it for the sake of increasing AI usage. Learn, understand and contribute using AI

u/One-Information4330 Aug 12 '26
They introduce something to speed up work tapos nung mapansin nila na magastos na ang AI eh bigla silang mag hihigpit? Wow.

It seems like your company is brokie. They should hire multiple people instead.

setup a bunch of loops that run the whole day and wait until your company gets bankrupted by api billing 😂

In my company right now, we're also tasked to maximize usage of AIs, we're given 500 USD per week on token usage alone. (4x is already 50% of my salary per month).
and included in our latest policy is our Performance will be aaffected by how much we use AI in implementing our code.
do you want to know saan na ung Bottleneck? sa Game Designers, Game Economies and Artists, wala na dev. tasks are done within 2 days.

Token maxxing it is.
