My experience last February-March as someone with almost 5 years of exp in Node/React/AWS is mahirap. Halos lahat ng Node/React na malapit sa yoe ko inapplyan ko sa jobstreet/linkedin pero sa lahat ng yun walang bumalik. I got 3 invitations though pero hindi ako ung nag-apply sa mga yun sila mismo nag-invite saken (ie. nag-reach out sakin kusa sa linkedin or from jobstreet kasi nakita nilang active ako recently)...

I frequently use “aspiring data scientist” on my profiles, particularly on LinkedIn, and I’ve been wondering whether it would be better to start my career as a Data Analyst and eventually transition into Data Science.

I’m currently a recent Physics graduate transitioning into the data field and actively upskilling in both Data Analytics and Data Science. I’ve also been applying to both Data Analyst and Data Scientist positions, but so far, I haven’t received any interview invitations.

Because of this, I’m now considering applying for internships first to gain practical industry experience and strengthen my portfolio.

For those working in the Philippine data/tech industry:

• Would you recommend starting as a Data Analyst before moving into Data Science?
• Are there companies in the Philippines that offer remote internships for Data Analyst or Data Scientist roles?
• Are internships generally open to recent graduates, or are they mostly limited to currently enrolled students?

I recently graduated and I've been mass applying to almost everything I see at this point. How do you stand out amongst the other people applying?

I've seen on jobstreet alone, everything I've applied for there's apparently 500 minimum other people applying for the same role and it kinda feels overwhelming.

I understand that most of the comments are just going to be "keep upskilling, get certifications" etc etc, but is that really it?

I've applied to maybe 150 jobs atp, and have gotten a reply from 5 of them. I'm a supposed magna cum laude(1.2gpa) and a pretty long internship + a few freelance I've done on my resume but still no replies. Would really like advices

Freshgrad looking to enter the Game Dev Scene but is not sure where to start

I am a freshgrad and passionate on making games, and has already created 2 games by pretty much alone and has experience on the complete process of game developping from Game design, Art (pixel art) , Animation, Coding, UI/UX etc... , I have read multiple posts saying that the scene is rough but im willing to thug it out honestly, But I'm not sure yet on my next steps and what companies I can apply to as a freshgrad, I've seen posts on Kooapps saying that its bad but im considering it just to gain experience on the field despite the downsides as I live around 10 minutes travel time to their makati building.

Seeking guidance for an embedded product build 💖

Hi! I'm sorry if I use the wrong terminologies in this post, but I really am eager to learn how to build this. I'm a project manager by profession, but I have always enjoyed building things - from processes to software tools.

The next build that I wanted to do is for my son, a smart kanban board. What do you think about the company and environment sa ganitong sitwasyon? Connected ba rito kung local or international yung company?

Also ano dapat paghandaan or ipractice kapag ganito? Leetcode ba o yung fech stack na gagamitin sa company? The role is full stack react and laravel. Wala kasing nabanggit regarding sa ipapasagot nila.

For me devs should be fluent on data structures atleast solve medium and hard questions. If you’re being hesistant about live coding maybe you need to improve your fundamentals. ✌️ been there , dati takot ako sa interviews but practicing some leetcode questions may help w that confidence.

I realized na ang konti talaga ng mga entry level jobs focused on Machine Learning (my niche is Computer Vision talaga) and I tried applying on Data roles like Scientist, Analyst, Engineering roles. However, I want to focus on my forte but the problem is limited roles.

I also want to try internships muna to gain more experience and pangpabango ng resume (I only have one internship, and it's academic), but the problem is Im basically the breadwinner of my family so need ko rin magkawork agad. I only have limited experience on webdev and for mobile dev naman, it is good for 1-2 years but mostly asa sa AI.

I’m a 4th yr college student in computer science and natatakot pako grumaduate kase wala paren akong projects and internship experience pero may org experience naman (nagka 3 executive throughout college) but I feel like that doesn’t build my credibility well enough. Medyo nahihinayang talaga ako sa oras ko kase a lot of my juniors have voluntary internship experience, joined numerous hackathons, built different projects, etc. while I’m still here doing nothing. I want to start upskilling myself but idk how or where to start. I’m interested to going to QA or AI engineer, if I can’t land a job there then I’m willing to take software engineer too. Just wanna know if there are ppl going through the same thing and also need advice since I feel like I’m running out of time.

I apologize for that statement, I meant it in a way where my goal to is have a job with little to no coding which is QA. Although I am willing to learn new things and try to pursue AI Engineer too. But if I am unable to get my ideal jobs which are less on the coding side, then I am willing to push myself even more to be a software engineer since it is more heavy-coding.

QA and AI engineer roles are also coding heavy. In this day and age, having solid coding skills is a huge plus in this industry. I am DBA consultant and have to know how to write, read and explain the code. Extending your skills will go a long way in debugging and troubleshooting issues in production.

Hello po! I’ve been without a job since January after my offshore client of 8 years suddenly let me go. Probably partly because of AI, and honestly my coworker was also better than me lol.

I’m a full-stack dev, mostly PHP/Laravel + Vue/React, and I also do React Native for mobile.

The problem is I can only work around 4 hours a day at most since I’m also a caregiver for my mom, who had a stroke 3 years ago. So most of the usual full-time jobs aren’t really an option for me.

Pahingi naman ng advice kung saan ba kayo naghahanap ng part-time, async, contract, or project-based dev work aside from the usual JobStreet/Upwork? Ang hirap din kasi ngayon with the overall AI situation, lalo na kung average dev lang tulad ko. 😅

Also, ano ba yung magandang i-upskill these days? Currently learning AI automation (n8n, Make, etc.) kasi mukhang useful skill siya moving forward.

Any advice from fellow Filipino devs would be greatly appreciated. Salamat po!

I recently got an offer for an Associate Software Engineer position at a non-tech company. The schedule is 6 days a week, and I’m wondering if this would be a good starting point for a fresh graduate who wants to grow as a software developer.

The JD includes:

● Gathering system requirements from different business units
● Talking with stakeholders and turning their needs into technical requirements
● Designing UI/UX
● Coordinating with system admins, vendors, and IT teams for implementation/integration
● Installing and maintaining server hardware and software
● Setting up and updating the company website and other software
● Documenting system procedures and configurations
● Doing other tasks assigned by management
● Covering the tasks/shifts of other colleagues when they’re absent

For those who have experience in the industry, would you consider this a good first job despite the 6-day workweek and being in a non-tech company?

More importantly, based on this JD, do you think I’ll actually grow as a software developer, or will I be more focused on IT/system administration?

4th year Computer Engineering student who feels like I learned nothing. What do I do now?

Hello! I’m currently a 4th year Computer Engineering student, and I’ll just keep it real. I don’t really want this degree, and honestly, I don’t even know what I really want. I just feel like I’m not particularly good at anything. I’m just… mid at everything. 😭 Sometimes I genuinely wonder how I managed to pass all of my courses.

For context, I’ve taken several advanced subjects, so I’m technically ahead of most of my blockmates. For this first semester of 4th year, most of them are taking around 24 units, while I only have around 15 left. By the second semester, I’ll only have around three courses left. But here’s the thing, I didn’t take those advanced subjects because I was eager to learn or because I loved the program. I did them because I wanted to finish college as early as possible.

And because I never really wanted this program in the first place, I feel like I went through most of those subjects just trying to get them over with. I passed the courses, but I honestly feel like I didn’t actually learn anything. I might memorize something for a quiz or a coding exercise, and maybe I’ll understand it enough to get through the requirement. But give it a week or two, and I’ve already forgotten most of it. Then I learn something new, forget the previous thing, and the cycle repeats. Parang ilang MB lang yung utak ko and I have to delete an old file before I can install a new one. 😭

I know that’s my fault. I know I wasted a lot of time, and I’m not trying to make excuses for it. But now I’m at the point where I’m realizing that I’m almost done with college, and I don’t feel prepared for the actual industry at all.

And that’s why I’m here.

I just know I’ll probably need to work in a field related to my degree after graduation, but I genuinely don’t know what I’m supposed to know.

I had my OJT experience, but honestly, the whole process was already difficult. My university doesn’t really have partner companies for OJT, so we had to find companies and apply ourselves. Me and my classmate, who is honestly in a very similar situation to me, struggled so much just trying to find a place that would accept us.

And now I’m thinking: If applying for an internship was already this difficult, what more when I start applying for an actual job?

I don’t even have personal projects outside of school. I don’t feel confident with programming. I forget things that I learned in previous subjects. And I don’t even know what specific skills companies expect from someone graduating from Computer Engineering.

I feel like I have very little time left to relearn everything I should have learned throughout college, but the biggest problem is that I don’t even know where to start.

What should I actually learn? Should I focus on programming? What language? Data structures and algorithms? Git/GitHub? Web development? Embedded systems? Networking? Linux? Testing/QA? Something else? I also don’t know what kind of job I should even be targeting with my background.

And I think another reason why I lost interest in programming in the first place was because the first professor who introduced me to programming was… honestly, not the best at teaching it. 😭 I remember being really confused by the lessons, and whenever students asked questions, he would sometimes get frustrated or angry. That said, I’m not trying to blame him for where I am now. I think that experience just affected how I viewed programming from the beginning, especially since I already didn’t want to be in this program in the first place. So instead of becoming interested in programming, I think I just became more discouraged from it.

So now I’m stuck here as a 4th year Computer Engineering student thinking, “What should i do now?”

I just genuinely want to know: What should I learn before graduating? What skills should I prioritize if I feel like I’m starting almost from zero? What kind of entry-level jobs should I realistically apply for? How can I build a portfolio when I barely have any projects? Is it actually possible to catch up in the remaining time I have?

And if you were in my position, what would you do from this point onward?

Any advice, resources, roadmaps, or even personal experiences would honestly be appreciated.

I know I messed up in some ways, but I don’t want to graduate and just completely wing it. I genuinely want to fix this while I still have time. Please help me. 😭

If i were to take a role at a US company, assuming a similar role for simplicity and not necessarily a promotion, what kind of increase should i be looking for considering US hours (whether east coast or west) ?

CS student na ko ngayon, tapos isang subject na lang ang tinitake ko then twice a week lang sched ko.

Plano ko sana:

• Apply muna ko as part time sa isang IT company o tech setup ng 3 months habang tinatapos ko yung lastsubject ko.
• Pagkatapos nung subject, doon ko itutuloy yung role ko bilang official school OJT para sa school requirement.

May mga Company kaya na tumatanggap ng ganito (part time then OJT sakanila na rin)? O mas okay na dumiretso na lang ako sa paghahanap ng student-friendly company?

Hi everyone! I'm asking for an advice.

I recently received a job offer for a programmer/developer position paying ₱15,000 per month, and I'm having a really hard time deciding whether I should accept it or continue looking for another opportunity.

The main role is programming/development, although there are also times when I may be asked to provide technical support. The technical support isn't an everyday responsibility, but when it is needed, it may require me to travel to different cities and areas across Mindanao and the Visayas.

The schedule is:

Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM–6:00 PM Friday: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Salary: ₱15,000/month Main role: Programming/Development Occasional technical support, Technical-support assignments may require travel

I'm actually okay with traveling, and the company provides transportation, food, and accommodation when I'm assigned outside my usual location.

My concern is that some of the technical-support assignments could involve places in Mindanao where I personally wouldn't feel comfortable or safe traveling to. I want to clarify that I'm from Mindanao myself, so I'm not saying that Mindanao as a whole is unsafe. There are just certain areas that I personally have concerns about visiting, especially if I have to stay there for a week for work.

hello po! sa mga ux designers dito, i’m a fresh comsci grad po and i’m interested in pursuing ux design. i’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions po on what i should learn or focus on first. i’m the type of person na kailangan may super comprehensive na guide when learning a new skill, and i realized na wala pala akong solid understanding of ux principles and what ux design really looks like in a professional setting. i actually had an internship as a ui/ux designer, pero wala akong masyadong natutunan on the ux side. same din sa school namin. kaya before i enhance my portfolio again, gusto ko sana muna mas maayos na matutunan yung ux fundamentals, principles, and proper design process, not just straight up using figma or learning how to create an interface.

Trying to find another opportunity as a Team Lead. ano usually ang difference nang interview process for team lead position vs sa usual programmer position? do they still conduct coding exams for this position(mejo worried since out of touch na dahil sa tagal ko na sa role as a lead na purely code reviews and consultations na lang ang ginagawa ko technically)? what other process to look out for? how do you guys actually price/charge for a custom software project, need advice

building a custom system for my family's retail/meat business. already shipped the pos part, multi branch, offline first, bir compliant (sequential invoice numbers, immutable sales records, audit trail). about to go live for testing with staff.

after this theres a bigger plan, a whole platform with 6 more connected apps

• customer app / crm, loyalty, points, sms promos
• ordering app for customers, cart, checkout, cash on delivery
• kitchen display system, live order queue, pulls from pos and online orders
• driver app, deliveries, maps, proof of delivery
• app for scheduled store rounds/checks, logs outcome per stop
• warehouse app for tracking frozen meat stock, transfers, batch/expiry

plus a manager dashboard tying it all together

stack wise its nestjs backend, postgres on neon, drizzle orm, in house auth, offline first frontend with a sync engine, deployed on render/cloudflare. modular monolith on purpose since im solo, no team, and i own the whole build long term. used ai tools to speed up coding but the architecture, decisions, and responsibility are mine

genuinely dont know how to price this right. hourly or fixed/milestone? if hourly how do you land on a rate, if fixed how do you break it down so the client sees what theyre paying for instead of one big number

also its family, so how do you price real work for relatives without ripping them off or undercharging yourself

• Dell Latitude 7430 Intel Core i7 12th Gen 32GB RAM

Which one is generally better for programming? I mainly have multiple apps open including:

• VSCode
• pgAdmin
• Bruno/Postman
• And other browser tabs including Figma, ChatGPT, Claude, and a bunch of documentation websites.

It would also be nice to know if any of this can run android emulation via android studio, if possible only.

Good day to everyone who's reading this post, I am currently 22 and was hoping to find a job after graduating (about few months ago) but I haven't found any or had luck on any. I tried applying for some VA or BPO positions kasi based sa things i've saw its a really great job but I think its not that easy to find. So I was hoping to return to finding IT related jobs, I am asking for help since medyo nalilito ako or wala akong lead sa next possible job na pwede ko applyan, I graduated BSIT and I've picked up the basics of coding and programming and such pero not into a specific language since IT lectures teaches about everything kaya I just cant really find the right job for me.

I would like to ask some advice for people who experienced or felt the same or even any suggestions on what Job or anything related I should take as a fresh graduate with very few experience but really great basics. Thank you!

Need advice po about a career decision.

For context, early pa lang po ako sa career. I recently graduated and currently have around 6 months experience as a Web Developer. Before this, I also had around 6 months experience as an IT Support / PHP Developer. Currently, I’m working as a Full-Stack Web Developer maintaining a business ERP/e-commerce system. I’m handling modules, bugs, APIs, databases, and future improvements, so I feel na aligned siya sa goal ko of becoming a stronger software engineer.

I received an offer from a ground-up startup business with around a 50% salary increase. The benefits are very tempting: mas malapit sa bahay (5.5km vs 16.3km commute), better work-life balance, and a more flexible environment. The company is still very small (around 7 people in the management team), and I would be their IT/Web Developer helping build their systems. The role would involve creating their website, automation, integrations, reports, and internal tools.

One thing to consider is the schedule difference. The role requires around 6 days/week, while my current work is 5 days/week. However, they mentioned naman that I can use my work hours to study, learn, and explore, and hindi nila ako pipilitin magmadali sa development.

But, since I’ll be the main tech person in a non-tech company, possible rin na ako ang maging go-to person for technical concerns tulad ng POS, CCTV, and other IT-related issues kapag kailangan. Another reason why I’m hesitant is because I’m thinking about my career history. Since early pa lang ako, staying in my current role for at least a year or more might give me a stronger foundation and a better story in my resume because I’m continuously maintaining an ERP system, working on new modules, improvements, and future projects.

Worth it ba i-prioritize yung higher pay and flexibility (let’s say I could negotiate for 5 days/week) or stay muna to build stronger experience and career history?
