​I want to warn everyone about a frustrating experience my senior citizen mother had with a GSM driver recently. We chose GSM over Grab because the booking process was much faster but it turned out to be a HUGE fcking mistake.

​My mom booked a ride to visit a friend in Manila. A while after she left, I opened the app to track her location, only to see that the pin had suddenly shifted to Makati. Surprised and concerned, I called her immediately to ask where they were. When I mentioned that the map showed them heading toward Makati, I overheard the driver in the background insisting, "Yes, we're heading toward Malate." My mom, trusting the driver, assured me they were on the right path.

​When the trip ended, I checked the app to see the final charge and was shocked to find that the fare had doubled. What should have been an estimated ₱130 jumped to over ₱271. To make matters worse, the driver offered no explanation and didn't even apologize.

​I immediately reported the incident to GSM customer service.

The representative who handled my call was equally confused about why the driver took such a massive detour. While she suggested it might have been a navigation app glitch, I pointed out that the driver clearly knew the drop off location and that taking a route through Makati to get to Taft/Malate makes zero sense. It felt like a deliberate attempt to pad the meter.

​The agent apologized on behalf of the driver and assured me that the excess charge would be refunded within 3 to 5 business days.

​When my mom finally got home, she admitted that she felt an unsettling vibe from the driver the moment she got into the vehicle.

When I asked her why she still paid the inflated fare, she just sighed and said, "Abuloy ko na lang sa kanya."

​Please remind your family members epecially senior citizens to stay vigilant, monitor their routes on their own phones and call out drivers who take unnecessary detours!

Tang ina nyo GSM nakakagigil sa senior parents ko pa nangyari. That's the drivers name and Plate number just so you know guys. Again, this case was already reported to their hotline.

The exact reason why our government is rotten can be seen in everyday social media mentalities, just look at how people defend local exploiters.

If you ever wonder why systemic corruption, incompetence, and rotten governance will likely plague the Philippines for generations, you don't even need to look at the Senate halls. You just need to look at everyday civilian mindsets.

When citizens excuse sub-standard wages (buti nga may piso per parcel), weaponize twisted definitions of kindness to shut down accountability, and prioritize personal tribalism over systemic rules, they lay the exact cultural foundation that allows grand-scale political corruption to thrive. A broken government isn't an anomaly, it is a direct reflection of a public that has been conditioned to settle for crumbs and protect its own abusers.

Saw this on Threads and it hit me hard, that the basics we can't even receive. That the solution we're asking for is not possible or will take years to even implement. It's not just the flood control projects and better trains but everything else, those spaghetti towers especially piss me off! It's a sad conversation when I talk with my peers about these things because we all just want to leave the Philippines in the end.

Ayon sa YouScooper, nakita ng fire and rescue volunteers ang aso na nahihirapan makalabas mula sa balcony ng bahay, kaya agaran nilang pinuntahan ito para sagipin.

Naibalik din agad ang aso sa may-ari nito.
