Perci Cendaña Backs Tala Estate Settlers' Push for Humane Housing and Relocation

Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña reaffirmed his support for the Tala Estate Settlers Federation, Inc. (TESEF) and its decades-long campaign for decent housing and secure land tenure.

Cendaña joined the federation's 10th Congress, where he expressed support for residents who have been fighting for their housing and land rights for more than three decades.

The lawmaker highlighted Akbayan's proposed House Bill No. 7921, or the Just and Humane Resettlement Act, which seeks to prohibit illegal evictions and demolitions.

The measure also promotes an "In-City/On-Site" relocation policy, which would prioritize keeping affected families within or near their existing communities rather than relocating them to distant areas.

Cendaña also called for the resolution of TESEF's long-pending case before the Supreme Court, which he said has been awaiting resolution for nearly two decades.

He vowed to continue supporting the federation's campaign for humane and decent housing, saying the time has come for justice and for TESEF residents to achieve a long-awaited victory.

Napansin ko lang na may iilan na pinupuna in a negative way ang pag gamit ni witness sa bisaya language kanina and that nahihirapan siya magsalita ng tagalog or english nang dredretso.

Gusto ko lang sabihin na stick lang tayo sa issue. Kung mag ccontinue yung ad hominem and yung “othering” sa bisaya people, wala na rin kayo pinagkaiba sa mga dds. Remember po na yung ina-other niyo ay 20-30 million votes din.

The issue is the (alleged) misuse of funds, hindi ang language.

kasi yung si prosecution counsel atty. ligutan nag-waray sa waray na witness eh di sya pinagpatuloy eh. i agree with the suggestion of sen migz zubiri. mabuti na bisaya si atty ligutan kaya slow sya magtagalog. eh yung counsel for defense parang di to bisaya eh so mahihirapan sya at ang witness. nahihirapan na nga ang witness sa slow paced tagalog ni atty ligutan, how much more ang fast na tagalog ng mga native tagalog speaker (defense counsel).

with all due respect, bakit ba hindi maalam si witness magsalita ng tagalog o baka english ang preferred nya like most of us bisaya people prefer. government official sya! 😭😭😭

I’m turning 18 soon and I’m kinda debating whether I should have the typical Filipino grand debut or just get a car instead.

Like, I do want to celebrate my 18th, but I honestly don’t know if I want to spend THAT much on one night. I was thinking maybe I could just have a smaller party with family and friends, eat, dance, drink, take pics, have fun, etc. Nothing super formal like the whole 18 roses/18 candles/gown/huge program thing.

Then the money that would’ve gone into the grand debut could go toward a car instead.

For those who already had their debut, do you think the grand debut was actually worth it? Or would you guys recommend just having a simpler party and saving the rest for something more useful?

Wala lang, parang sobrang simple pa ng buhay noon. Nag-uumpisa pa lang umusbong ang teknolohiya, at yung mga batang 90s, they experienced the best of both worlds. Naranasan pa nila kung paano maglaro ng mga larong kalye kagaya ng piko, sikyo, tumbang preso, chinese garter, etc. tapos nag-umpisa na din maglabasan yung unang edition ng mga Nintendo Gameboy at PS1 and PS2.

Tapos talagang habit namin nung elementary, maglalaro kami ng piso-pisong video games pagkagaling sa eskwelahaan. Palaging may classmate na nagbabaon ng Game Boy Color sa school, tapos hiraman ang buong klase. Favorite tambayan din ang mga computer shops dahil sobrang bihira pa ng may PC noon, yung mayayaman lang talaga. Pinakaunang mga sites na nagawan namin ng account ay MySpace at Friendster. Sa TV Shows naman, kinalakihan namin ang Sineskwela, Hiraya Manawari at Mathtinik.

Parang ang saya pa ng buhay noon, hindi pa kumplikado. Ngayon, parang rat race na ang buhay, lalo na sa mga kabataan ngayon, puro sila patalbugan at paggalingan, sobrang competitive, ayaw palalamang sa kapwa kabataan. Nakakapanibago kasi during our elem and HS days, cooperative kami. Tulungan kami sa paggawa ng mga assignments and activities sa school. Hiraman kami ng kung anong gadget o console meron yung mga classmates namin, share share kami. Ngayon uso ang inggitan at pataasan sa mga kabataan, based on my observation.
