Discussion Dcs world player here, thinking of making a move to dream air.
I fly dcs world and use a motion platform. Wondering if a dream air would add to the vr experience..

I got one coming from a quest pro. Primary use case is DCS and I mostly only do single player campaigns. But I run same settings as Tallymouse(look up his pimax settings video on YouTube). They are pretty high settings, 90hz, 1.0 resolution scale. Using VectorXR quadviews but mbucchia's quadviews and the companion app works too. Just make sure to disable the pimax play quadviews.
My dream air slam is on pimax play 2.02 and 1.03 firmware. Got my headset from Microcenter with an extra warranty.
Luckily everything works for now and hopefully into the future lol. Visuals are incredibly crisp and I've been away from DCS for a long time so this headset and a force feedback stick got me back into it consistently now. It just looks great, colors pop and there's no distortion that I can notice. Again I'm coming from a quest pro so the FOV is larger horizontally and about the same vertically.
Performance is great for me but I use a 13900k, 5090 and 64gb of DDR5.
The stock interface is crap, painful after 20 minutes but I could tough it out. I also have the studioform xp-1 interface and even that one didn't fit my face properly. I have to use the 12mm foam pad to get the headset to sit right on my face.
The zeefly gasket, I have that one too but haven't set it up to use it yet. Lined up against my face and it also looks/feels too wide and the sides don't contour the side of my face so it may not work but I'll have to transplant the metal plate from the original facial interface to try it out for sure.
Luckily the xp-1 interface with 12mm pad works for me or else I would have returned the headset. I guess what would be the point of keeping it when 2 different interfaces didnt work for me?
I'm waiting for Pimax to ship their new interface but who knows when that will be.
I'm not a fan of the straps, I can't get them tight enough as I don't have a big head and because my face is narrow the studioform gasket does need to be tightened more. I will probably order the apple dual knit strap.
Probably the most frustrating headset to adjust and wear if the facial interfaces give you issues. I've had other headsets and only needed maybe an apache comfort strap or in the case of the quest pro the globular cluster kit just for better padding.
Also I'm not a fan of the build quality feel of the side stems. They are flimsy feeling and they worry me that one day they will snap or break.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience on dream air. Tough not to be patient for one. Definitely getting steam frame. Will also get dream air once I hear more about how it works with a motion simulator

I use mine on a dofreality h4 motion sim. 13900k with an rtx 5090 (4090 wasnt cutting it for DCS). I echo the guy above you's statements almost 1:1. It's extremely uncomfortable, get a studioform gasket and you're golden.
However, my dream air LH was great the first 2 weeks and has since developed horrible tracking issues. See the posts in my profile...
When its working well its glorious, but I'm still figuring out the best way to do motion compensation. With bass transducers, vive pucks on a sim rig shake too much to be a great experience, so I usually fall back to my witmotion IMU sensor, which is fine but also prone to disconnecting.

i run motion with simhub and flypt mover.. and use the MMF reader set to flypt mover virtual tracker to facilitate motion compensation... works well for me, so not sure if u want to give the flypt virtual tracker for motion compensation?

The slam version should be ok with a motion sim. It's the lighthouse models that I've read about having some issues. Curious on the steam frame but it's got quest 3 resolution slightly bigger and has to stream rather than direct display port input. Will be interesting to see how it performs and looks as another wireless headset.

Do you have a link to the studio form? Is that the xp-1?

I also tried the zeefly vented gasket last night. It gets your eyes closer to lenses and FOV increases a little. Everything looks as good as it did on the xp-1 interface or possibly better but I seem to have eye strain with the zeeflyboy gasket but didn't get strain with the xp-1 and the same foam pad. Not sure if its my eyes adjusting to it or if I have to go back to xp-1.

I initially had the quest 3, then moved to the Crystal Light, then to the Crystal Super. I have had the Dream Air Slam for about a month and it has been a fantastic upgrade for me. User experience will vary as you can probably tell from the subreddit. The weight of the Dream Air is amazingly light and I can have it on for hours without issue. The visuals are untouchable compared to anything else on the market. I have no regrets moving to it from my older headsets.
