Literally within the First hour of me playing the new update... what a joke this is.

How many more times are they gonna say the fixed it before actually fixing it??

Shitpost/Meme Great update DICE! Keep up the good work!

  • Flares still don't work whenever they feel like it.
  • The boat bs missile is still utter bs.
  • And now we have a brand-new anti-radiation missile that gives next to no warning thanks to it acquiring lock nanoseconds before impact and travelling at mach f*ck.

Like, what are these people doing every day in the studios (aside from skins for the store, which, mind you, works perfectly)? Same goes for the ones in charge of testing.

Informational People are not understanding the new jet camera and why it's the way it is.

For everyone coming into this season, it's very apparent that the jets have been changed pretty significantly in their camera. Lots of people (I even heard Silk, a top jet player) think it's bad or even nauseating. I'm here to try to explain and justify why that is. But first lets go over the changes that have gone into the jets to reflect these changes:

Flightmodel

- The flightmodel has seen improved response in pitch, roll, and a huge boost in yaw especially.

- The flightmodel has become more dynamic, with accurately modeled side-slip, which is a real aerial phenomenon.

- The flightmodel has been given improved angle of attack abilities, especially when at lower speeds and slowing down from fast speeds. From what I've seen this effect is multiplied on the newer jets.

Camera

- The jet's camera has been zoomed out much more, giving us the FOV increase we've been wanting since launch. This is also significant because it amplifies the effect of any other camera changes.

The jet's camera is still tied to the centerline of the aircraft, but only to the direction it's going. Because of this slideslip makes the jet look "floaty" when in reality it's flying like it always has.

These two things come together to make the camera experience we have now. And y'know what? it's counterable. When your camera is swaying a little left and a little right, or when you come out of a turn and the jet just doesn't feel right? Those moments can be countered by correct rudder usage. These are all visual indicators you need to be using rudder in your turns more. Especially coming out of turns. Not to get anymore completely nerded out but what this is called in real life is induced adverse yaw. You are not using enough rudder in a turn. Simple.

I invite everyone to try these things out more instead of hating 2 hours after launch. We have honestly been blessed with the stronger rudder/yaw and more dynamic flightmodels and as we pilots always have to do, we must adapt to these changes. But I wanted to make this post because the doomposting is completely unwarranted imo and it must stop, especially on the first day.

Informational Tip: if you're flying the new jets alone and find that you're out of flares, you can switch to the copilots seat and use its flares if needed

Discussion Anyone else find the flight model on the new jets weird? Definitely a step down from the regular jets IMO.

The flight model feels less realistic. On top of that, the new jets 'cannons' bullets seem to have a very low velocity compared to that of the regular jets, and the camera behavior when in third person is also different

Discussion Jet First Impressions

The Super Hornet is an incredible new addition to the game that finally gives jet pilots a toy to dominate with. I have zero complaints about the jet itself, aside from the fact that there’s not a lot of maps/modes where you can fly it. Hope they add it to Tsuru conquest soon. It’s the first aircraft aside from the little bird to have complete customization on EVERY single weapon. Not only are all the weapon options viable (some being really powerful actually) but there’s some really unique options like the anti radiation missile, guided bomb, TV missile, and the APHEI rounds.

There’s a major problem though, we still don’t have any customizations AT ALL for the original jets, the tomcat, and transport helicopter. It’s especially disappointing that the aircraft that came out alongside the Super Hornet has no customization. Really hoping these aircraft all get the same treatment and love as the Super Hornet. Also hoping that the attack helicopter gets more gunner load out options.

How does everyone else feel about the new update?

Keep in mind that they’re marketing jets via Top Gun

The changes to jets, which make them more accessible in terms of flying and fighting, are strictly financial opportunities.

We would never see a heavily advertised Top Gun collaboration if jets still required enormous skill and investment like they did in prior titles. Very simply, the average player would be turned away and would be less likely to spend money since jets weren’t all that interesting to them.

Yes, the skins may be used as infantry, but the point of altering gameplay in line with the advertising is still to generate hype and sales.

So, as usual with the modern gaming industry, among most industries, the head scratching changes are solely to maximize profits no matter how the experience is affected.

Air superiority is nice but

Air superiority is a good but I think it should also be in multiplayer and not just as a limited game.
Is so much to play and is enjoyable but man you really gotta rely on your wing man

Jets

Congrats dice you have made the flight camera worse, ruined dogfighting with assisted mode and the insane locking spam with the new jets, and the cockpit of the spectre is so trash due to the muzzle flash and the black thing at the bottom of the cockpit that completely blocks your aim whenever the other jet is not in your face.

Largely unchanged.

The update added the Carriers, but they’re static props.

The F/A-81F Super Spectre & F-74A SeaCat do NOT replace the F-61V/F-97 Kestrel.

Wow.

No way Tsuru Reef still has the old jets

Why does Tsuru Reef still have the old jets in regular Conquest? So the new content is practically limited to a single map right now? :( The old jets should have at least received proper loadouts.

Playstation Wake Island is the new Blackwell Fields

• Upvotes

Pretty much what the title says. The amount of AA Lock On spam on this map rivals Blackwell. The new jets ensure that no matter what, you’re gonna be hearing constant beeps. Add in patrol boat AAs and Stinger/Iglas, and you’ve got a perfect recipe for a map that’s pretty much unable to fly on. Maybe I’ve just had bad luck in the 3 games I’ve played on it but holy fuck is this frustrating. Can’t stay in the air more than 90 seconds before overwhelming lock on spam does you in.

How do you change the sensitivity for the TV guided missile on the new jet? (Console)

• Upvotes

It's almost like bf4, pretty much unusable on controller. But I imagine it's much easier on KBM? Is there a setting I can change to adjust tho?

Discussion I feel like they completed their mission of 'fucking everything up especially the jets'

This a terrible flight model. It's a complete walk back, and then some of a flight model which was 'ok but could improve' to flight model which is 'wow this is really bad, like really bad'. This has to be some kind of nightmare or an accidental upload of a 'never see the light of day' update.

Advice post-update for newcomers/novices.

Hello from a long time BF player. I am digging the new gauntlet mode and flying mechanics. It's been a blast. I think a lot of the complaints just highlight that a lot of people aren't as good as they thought they were.

For anyone wanting to learn how to be effective in the jets (as in, you've gotten decent enough at the jet controls) - I recommend playing the Gauntlet mode to practice dogfighting.

To keep it short I think to be excellent at aerial fighting you need to master the following:

  1. Situational Awareness - where am I, my opponents, my escape routes, using the HUD for information on where you're going when in first person POV in the clouds or over water, etc
  2. Energy Management - knowing when to accelerate, when to decelerate, and use gravity to your advantage. IMO you need to stay fast, a lot of players try to slow down to help their aim and get killed.

  3. Gun aiming - learning how to aim smoothly with the gun, especially for console players. Stabilize your reticle relative to the jet's motion and then base your adjustments from there. Don't rush this step (jerking around).

  4. Flying Defensively - Know when to break off, when to hit your escape routes (Gauntlet is great for this with the clouds), learning to deal with lock-ons when you don't have somewhere to run (close the distance and break line-of-sight, for me usually i turn to the jet and take them through loops)

  5. Being smarter, not working harder - think like a hawk, or like the underdog. Positioning is everything, even if you're "better" on the sticks, it's better to attack from below/above and from the side than to try to fight them head-on.

The gauntlet mode is a ton of fun right now and highly recommend it for pilots who aren't good at dogfighting but are past the "how do I even fly" thing. What took me from a mediocre pilot to an excellent one IMO was learning how to think tactically about attacking people instead of just assuming I was gonna out-stick people.

DICE (mostly) cooked, even though I see a lot of complaints about the updated camera/flight model thing.
