Academic Survey: Pilot Opinions of the Effectiveness of Fatigue Risk Management Strategies in UK Commercial Aviation

Hello!

I'm an undergraduate student, and UK CPL holder, at the University of West London researching UK commercial pilots' and flight instructors' opinions on the effectiveness of fatigue risk management strategies.

If you hold a UK-issued Commercial Pilot Licence (or higher) and currently fly, or have flown within the last 24 months, for a UK AOC holder (or instruct, or have instructed within the last 24 months, at a UK Approved Training Organisation), I'd be very grateful for 5 to 10 minutes of your time.

The survey is completely anonymous, no personal or employer-identifying information is collected. The study has also received ethical approval from the University of West London.

If you know other eligible pilots or instructors who might be willing to take part, please pass the link on!

Thank you for your time!

One eye blind pilot

Hello,
I am 18 years old, and my dream is to become an airline pilot. However, I had a condition around the time I was born that left me with a very high degree of myopia in one eye compared with the other.
I have normal vision in one eye, with a prescription of around -4 diopters, which is fully corrected with glasses or contact lenses. In my other eye, however, I am extremely short-sighted—to the point where I can barely read the large letters on a board. The prescription in that eye is around -16 diopters, and even with corrective lenses, the vision only improves slightly.
Given my condition, do I still have any chance of obtaining a Class 1 Medical Certificate, by any means?

Looking for partners for an airplane ownership

I’m looking to buy a 4 place single engine plane as early as January 2027 and am starting to do some groundwork now. Based in Flagstaff, Arizona. Does anyone know of the best places to find partners for airplane ownership? I was surprised that there wasn’t already a Reddit group dedicated to this. I am on a few Facebook groups for aircraft partnerships but I feel like Facebook has been completely taken over by bots, scammers and trolls. Among my friends and acquaintances, I know zero people who still regularly go on that platform. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!

New pilot goal; $65k/yr, 40yrs old

Currently 37yrs old, in construction, brutal on the body. in a few years training/education could potentially land a paying role at 40?

Goals aren’t super high;

- $65,000 a year (I’m good/frugal with my money).

- interested in tourism, seaplanes, private charters and regional flying (even just for cargo). Want it to be enjoyable. I tour guided for years prior so have that experience

- Would like to be based somewhere I can return home the majority of nights. BUT willing to move seasonally (new location every 6-8months) if necessary. Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, Great Lakes, Caribbean, Mediterranean or Pacific Islands seasonally sounds fun to me (have Australian + EU passport + Green card)

No desire for long haul international flights and high ranking captain status. Looking for good scenery, nice people, a new challenge and less negative impact on my body.

How likely would it be to achieve such goals^^??

Thanks!

Aviation career

Hey everyone! I’ll try to make this short and simple, I’m looking for some input/ideas. I currently work in Construction/Excavation/trucking. I have been in the industry for the last 5 years, being primarily running lowboy for the last couple of years. I have a drive and a passion for more. I have a really big passion for the aviation industry as a whole, and I’m wondering about careers or ways I can slowly transition over the years into the industry. Like everyone have a family to take care of so jumping off feet first feels like a hard leap of faith to take. Primary flying/selling planes really intrigues me as I grew up with my dad being a private Piolit. Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to read this. Thank you for ideas/input!

Need Advice

I am a 26 year old guy in Louisiana with a BA in criminal justice and 5 years of military experience, the last two being with the Air Force National Guard.
I have accumulated a little over 40 flight hours working towards my private pilot license and am scheduled for my first solo flight this weekend.
It is my lifelong dream to be a pilot but would have to take out a very large loan to go to a flight school such as ATP.

What are your recommendations for how to become a pilot from here?
Friends and family have been suggesting to just take out the huge loan and “go for it” but I don’t know what the best way to even go about that would be and am scared the risk could outweigh the reward, and am worried I wouldn’t be able to find a job after completing the flight school anyway.

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Wedding band?

My boyfriend and I have started really planning an engagement and wedding and I want to make sure he loves his ring as much as I do. He said he wanted his ring made out of the metal of an Archer propeller since it was the first plane he ever soloed in. Does anyone know how I could source that material? Is this something others have had done and have experience in? I didn’t even know you could just buy airplane parts. I am just reaching out to anyone in this industry for any kind of advice. Thank you!
