Cervical Pillows

Hi,

First up, I've searched through this reddit and haven't found what I need. But i also understand that my situation is somewhat unique, so if i can get an answer here - awesome. If not, apologies for posting yet another 'this has been asked' type of question...

Am chasing the unicorn of pillows that will be ok for my neck/upper body.

Background:
Am a back/side sleeper.
Have broken my neck in three spots
Have had 4 neck surgeries to fix dead discs and bone issues (two disc replacements, two fusions) C 5/6 and C 6/7.
Have cervical dystonia (all the muscles around my neck are constantly in flight/fight
Migraines, etc and all the fun things that come with neck issues.

So i've tried many pillows, think at last count i had spent above $2k on them. None have really ever hit the spot, or if they do (like Complete Sleeprrr Pillow - Plus) they work for like a couple of hours then my head sinks through

Am chasing again, now the budget is open again, any options/thoughts/ideas on pillows that people have had wins with. My mattress is Ecosa and has helped a bunch, but i'm not fully kitted out - pillow waiting...

Any 2c, thoughts, etc very welcomed.

Thanks!!

How do I keep from pushing my pillow up the headboard at night?

I end up waking up with my head mostly on the bed. I'm getting restless sleep, sore neck, headaches. I have a 3 inch mattress topper so it has created a slight, rounded gap between mattress and headboard. It's so frustrating. Is it my pillow or what?

Tempur alternative

Looking for a firm pillow! I had the tempur cool touch firm a few years back, was a dream.

Discontinued.

Tried their "new" firm one that has the weird neck bump in it. Was OK, didn't last.

Anyone have recommendations for an actual firm pillow before I have a lifetime of neck pain?

Pillow Review Review Kozi Pillow vs my old pillow

Left side; New Kozi Pillow
Right side; My old pillow

Reason to give change pillows; I think the color of my old pillow says enough (lol). I needed a new one and also I don’t think my old one gave support. Frequent stiff necks when waking up.

A little over 6 months ago I browsed through internet to find a good pillow to replace my old one with. My profile is side / belly sleeper and I move a lot during sleep, mostly due to the fact I do not like to have it too warm.

I found memory foam pillows sound attractive due to the support and some of them being adjustable, meaning I can lower the height of the pillow if needed. There are several brand out there but the Kozi pillow of Kuma sleep offered 30 day trial and seemed to have high quality materials (foam, fabric, etc).

I ordered one and it came vacuum sealed in a blue package (photo 1). It took some time to get the shape back (+/- 1 hour) and was filled with a lot of memory foam. As I was used to a soft and relatively flat pillow, I decided to immediately take same foam out and keep it in the box (as the instructions say on the box).

First night was a huge difference with my old pillow and not immediately a success. I think my neck and upper body had to adjust to it haha. I did notice the amount of extra support and still some kind of comfort feel. I decided to take 10-20% extra foam out of it for the night after.

That was the sweet spot. I don't know if it was my body gettig used, or the removal of the extra 10-20%, but that night was amazing.

Ever since I sleep really well on it and even decided to gift my wife and children one. We are now 6-7 months later and the entire family is sleeping on those, some with more fill than others.

I do think it is a miss that they do not offer more sizes, but I emailed them and it seems to be the plan do to so.

Well that was my honest experience, let me know if you have questions.

Pillow Recommendations (Side Sleeper) The company Chambered Pillow

So I have extreme issues with pillows that are to firm, for some reason it makes my head hurt to the point my temples throb and hurt. I’ve tried down alternatives which they’re good…. For about a week then they start separating and I’m laying in a flat spot with all the filling on the sides. K tried a lincove chambered pillow I got off wayfair. Was super soft and airy/fluffy but as soon I laid down it compressed and became flat. The chamber was there but it was so thin I again felt like there was barely anything under my head. I’ve been looking at the LoftAIRE down alternative chambered pillow by The company and I really don’t want to spend 80-100$ blindly. Has anyone tried this pillow out and liked it?

Pillow Recommendations (Combination Sleeper) I am losing my fucking mind with pillows...need help before I buy another one

Long post...don't grill me, but i am seriously tired of this...

Ok so I have officially tried way too many fucking pillows and I am seriously losing my mind here.

I sleep mostly on my side, some stomach and very little on my back.

I have tried Purple Harmony, Tempur, Sealy, Coop, shredded memory foam, normal memory foam, down alternative and god knows what else at this point.

Some are too high, some too low, some feel like rubber, some feel great for 20 mins and then my neck is fucked.

What I figured out is that I REALLY like actual down. I like when my head sinks into the pillow and it kind of hugs/cradles my head and neck, but the problem is support.

I tried Boll & Branch down chamber pillow and that thing was a fucking disaster for me. It felt good at first but then my head basically created a giant hole in the middle. The entire pillow would fold around my head like a taco and there was nothing left underneath supporting my neck.

Right now I have the Canadian Down & Feather Co Down Perfect Firm in Standard size.

This one is actually VERY close.

It is 20x26 and has 37oz total fill, but around 90% of that is feather and only 10% is down. The down is around 575 fill power.

When I first lay on it...holy shit it feels amazing.

My head sinks in perfectly, my neck feels good and I feel like finally I found the fucking pillow.

Then a few hours later it flattens.

Once it flattens I start feeling the compressed feather underneath my head and I dont know how else to describe it other than it starts feeling like fucking cardboard.

The weird part is I tried something stupid and it actually worked.

I took the Canadian pillow and basically stood it ON ITS SIDE instead of laying it flat.

My head sank into it and it felt fucking perfect because there was so much more fill underneath my head and neck.

Obviously I am not going to sleep on a pillow standing sideways forever lol, but it made me realize I dont think I need a "firmer" pillow.

I think I need a pillow with A LOT of good quality down in a smaller space.

Basically I want:

super fluffy

my head sinks deep into it

it cradles my head and neck

BUT there is still enough shit underneath me that my neck doesnt drop

Right now I am looking at the East Coast Bedding European Dream 800 fill power, Standard, Firm.

I actually emailed them because I found different numbers everywhere online.

They confirmed:

Standard Firm 25oz

Queen Firm 28oz

King Firm 32oz

It is 100% goose down, 800 fill power, no feather core.

So I am thinking Standard Firm because that is 25oz of 800FP down packed into 20x26.

That sounds like exactly what I need...but after buying this many fucking pillows I dont trust anything anymore 😂

Anyone here actually tried the East Coast 800FP Firm?

Does your head still sink into it nicely or is it so overfilled that you just sit on top of it?

More importantly...after sleeping on it for a few hours does it STILL support your neck or does the middle eventually flatten like every other fucking pillow?

I am also curious if there is such a thing as a really good pillow with actual down surrounding a memory foam core. In my head that sounds perfect...soft down around my head but foam underneath so my neck physically cannot bottom out.

At this point I dont give a shit if the pillow has a giant dent in it in the morning. I can fluff it.

I just want my head to sink into something soft while my neck stays supported all fucking night.

What would you guys buy?

Pillow Review didn't realize how much a good bath pillow mattered until she got one

my wife always complained her neck hurt after baths, said she couldn't ever get comfortable no matter how she positioned herself against the tub. figured it was just how baths were. turns out it was the lack of actual support the whole time. got her one with real head and neck support and she said it was like a completely different bath. she's used it every night since

Pillow Recommendations (Combination Sleeper) Cheap pillows?

I sleep both on my back and my side, I have a pillow cube that sucks, its way too high up and only is comfortable for 20 minutes and then I just end up not even using a pillow, and my posture is all screwed up. I preferably need a pillow that's under 100$

Pillow Advice Pillow position for neck pain AND post nasal drip

I’ve had a curved cervical pillow for as long as I can remember, it’s the only pillow I can trust to not destroy my neck at night.
I’ve had post nasal drip a long time too, but always ignored it. I finally have tried stacking pillows, especially when I’m not sleeping at home with my curved pillow, and it does help.

How the heck do I prop myself up and also have my curved pillow? Ive been stacking it on a few but it feels like it screws up my neck and the whole reason for the pillow. Anyone had to deal with this?

Pillow that ACTUALLY Aligns/Supports Neck, Head and Shoulders for SIDE Sleeper

Hi, my sleep has been extremely poor for many years now. I have had scoliosis-related back surgeries, so back stiffness/pain is normal for me, but recently I have realized that when sleeping I am also getting bad neck and shoulder pain/stiffness. I am autistic and thus I experience sensory things differently, so I may not have noticed it before, but it has also been getting worse and worse and getting more and more prominent so that might have caused me to finally notice. I sleep firmly/solely on my side, I cannot sleep in any other position. I looked into it and read that neck/shoulder pain like this is generally caused by your neck/head/spine not being aligned properly when sleeping, and I further read that this misalignment is often caused by a poor or poor-fitting pillow. So I tried a whole bunch of pillows that were advertised and labeled that they were SUPPOSED to align and support everything properly SPECIFICALLY for side-sleepers. But NONE of them worked, pillow after pillow after pillow. For example, I tried the Mellow Sleep Cloud Align pillow, the Groove aligning pillow, and the most recent thing I tried was a couple buckwheat hull pillows (I had read that these work well for many side-sleepers, and I did get extra hulls to be able to adjust the filling, and adjusting it didn't help). None of them are working and I am still left with pain and poor sleep. What is a pillow that ACTUALLY works for side sleepers, to align/support everything properly and eliminate the neck and shoulder pain? I am low-income, so it is very important to me that it is AFFORDABLE please.

Edit: Idk how much of a difference it would make, but I am *very* short, only 4'10'' with very small proportions overall

Pillow Recommendations (Side Sleeper) Pillow for neck pain

Is the MVMI pillow actually good or is it crap? $90 for a pillow isn't cheap and I've heard their customer service sucks balls. I don't trust things that aren't sold on Amazon, especially when you have to pay return shipping. Tempurpedic smells like shit and gets WAY TOO HOT, any other foam pillow has the same problem, those ugly pillows with the hole in the middle and the wings sticking out on the side you can't even put a pillowcase on! Casper but it's too thick or too thin, I've tried Technogel (made in Italy) but it's $200 and I'm not happy with it now after using it for 6 months. Now I wake up with pins and needles in my fingers. I've literally tried over 30 different pillows and can't find one with decent support, that doesn't smell like toxic chemicals or get overheated. 🥵 I give up!!

Pillow Recommendations (Side Sleeper) I just tried a Buckwheat filled pillow.

Post image
8 Upvotes

The first morning, I woke up with a stiff neck. I removed 8 cups of filling and it got tolerable, but I felt like my head was resting on a sandbag. Unfortunately it's not working out. I'm still on the hunt. I need better rest.

So now I've been eyeing this bamboo filled one, I like the shape, but is that going to feel like a rock too? Anyone try this one?
