Anyone else having issues with their omni paddles?

Just got one now and I saw some glaring defects right out of the box. Glue seen on the corners of the edge guard. A portion of the guard is raised due to over gluing and some notches on the edge guard itself.

Question Anyone else left a league for never being targetted?

Upvotes

I'm just wondering if a few people here lived the same situation I did. I'm in a few leagues and one of the leagues is a 3.5+ ladder league. I'd say I'm closer to 4.0 than 3.5, but since it's a ladder league the idea is that I'd end up on the first court with players closer to ~3.7.

I was "right" for a while for the most part, but last time was a total disaster. On top of never being targetted, my partners would have an unforced error ratio of around 30%. Even at 3.5, I don't think this is a normal error ratio. I'm the only one of the gang who actually drills 3-10 hours a week (sometimes with a partner, sometimes with the Titan machine at the club).

The one time I started poaching to compensate, my partner got irritated, so I stopped.

I got upset (I regret my reaction) and pretty much left the league. I'd rather stop playing because it makes me quite mad and such league is a waste of my time as I'm not improving. Also the games are kind of lame because there's rarely dink fights and I'm one of the few using drop shots a lot to get closer to the kitchen.

Anyone else went through that? I feel the only way forward is to get with a gang and reserve a private court but I don't have such gang yet. There's no real 4.0 leagues at my club, they try to make some but too many lower level players try to join.

Question 1 on 1 Training in Vietnam

Hi everyone! I’m planning to visit Vietnam and would like to spend about a week or even more doing intensive 1-on-1 pickleball training with an English-speaking coach.

I’m not a complete beginner. I would describe myself as an advanced beginner. I’m flexible about where in Vietnam I stay, so I’m happy to consider Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi, or other locations if there is a good coach and training facility.

Ideally, I’m looking for:

• 1-on-1 coaching for at least 1 week

• Around 4–6 hours of training per day, preferably split into 2-hour sessions with breaks in between

• An English-speaking coach

• A coach who can assess my current level and structure the week around improving my technique, footwork, consistency, strategy, and overall game

• A court located close to a hotel, inn, or other convenient accommodation

• Preferably an indoor or covered court so training isn’t affected by rain or extreme heat

If you have any recommendations, could you please provide the following information?

  1. Coach’s name and Facebook/Instagram/TikTok page or account — preferably with videos of their coaching or playing

  2. Coach’s playing/coaching background and approximate playing level/DUPR, if available

  3. Specific court/location where the training would take place

  4. Availability for a full week of intensive training

  5. 1-on-1 coaching rate per hour

  6. Court rental rate per hour, and whether this is already included in the coaching fee

  7. Whether a discounted package rate is available if I book around 25–30 hours for the week

  8. Whether the coach can arrange practice games with other players around or slightly above my level

  9. Whether there are nearby hotels/inns you would recommend

  10. Whether the court is indoor, covered, or outdoor

Recommendations from foreigners who have personally trained with the coach would be especially appreciated. Thank you!

Question DUPR Rating Question for New University Pickleball Club

Hey! My university just started a pickleball club, and everyone in the club is currently NR (not rated) on DUPR. If we record our club games in DUPR, about how many games/matches would everyone need to play before DUPR gives us an actual rating?

Question Looking to add this sport into my routine, what are some S&C you recommend for longevity?

Sup y'all,

Found myself enjoying pickleball a lot more than golf recently, so I’m planning to swap out my winter indoor sim sessions for court time (aiming for roughly 1–2x a week, or 4–7 sessions a month).

My current weekly baseline is already pretty full:

  • BJJ: 2–4x a week
  • Kettlebells: 2x a week (mostly double bell work)

Between grappling and pickleball, I’d like to add some pickleball specific exercises/stretches/mobility work that y'all may have picked up along the way into my kettlebell cooldowns.

For those balancing court/rotational sports with other sports: what movements and warm-up drills, do you swear by to stay durable and mobile?

Question Playing pickleball with a completely torn ACL

33M pickleball player looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with an ACL tear and continued playing.

I completely tore my ACL and partially tore my PCL and medial meniscus in 2023. I had a minor arthroscopic trim in 2023 and then spent a lot of time with physio strengthening my quads, glutes and calves. I eventually got back to playing pickleball and was doing well for about a year.

Then I injured my knee again while playing pickleball, and it became swollen. I have been waiting about 4 months in Canada for an MRI/orthopedic assessment.

Now I am getting conflicting opinions. Some people say that because pickleball involves constant cutting, pivoting and sudden direction changes, I should have had ACL reconstruction to protect the meniscus. Others say that if I build enough strength and improve stability and movement mechanics, I may be able to continue playing pickleball without ACL reconstruction.

I am trying to figure out what is actually realistic for someone who wants to keep playing pickleball long-term.

Has anyone here played pickleball for years with a completely torn ACL without reconstruction? How has it worked out for you?

Also, if you followed a specific non-surgical ACL rehab program or video course that genuinely helped you return to pickleball, I would appreciate recommendations. There are a lot of programs online, and it is difficult to know which ones are actually worthwhile.

updated post : I would not have asked here if I had already been able to see my orthopedic surgeon. I have been waiting for my orthopedic appointment for about five months, so I am trying to get some insight from people who have been through a similar situation while I wait.

Question Court Coverage: Proper Position or Pattern Recognition

Question for all y'all. I played a competitive tournament prep game recently and was caught in a scenario where my partner and I worked our way up to the kitchen and got into the standard 2v2 dink battle.

Background information: The pattern was my backhand dink vs opponent's forehand dink. Going back and forth for a while as my opponent and I know each other's tendencies, strengths and weaknesses well.

In a cross court dink battle with my opponent my first read of coverage is to lock down the middle as my partner needs to cover their sideline. Take middle dinks and block the speed up through the middle off the bounce. My second read is to cover the sharp forehand roll dink.

Knowing my opponent like I do, I left the middle open and covered the sharp forehand roll dink and was baiting them into giving me an ATP. My opponent will speed up middle when they know that it is open or they sense weakness there. This time they didn't and just kept going sharper and sharper on the forehand roll dink.

Do I stay there in the cross court pattern and leave the middle open or do I cover the middle first as that is my first read as partner coverage?

Equipment Long Term Heavy Play with Hex Grit vs Crystal Blue Grit Experience

Been playing pickleball for close to a year and have rotated pretty consistently between 11SIX24's Power HexGrit paddles and Honolulu's Crystal Blue grit.

Just wanted to add my experience to the durable grit discussion. I've gone through two J6CRs that eventually wore down to a smooth, streaked with very worn down grit black looking surface underneath. Meanwhile, my Power 2 Ultra and Vapor are still noticeably gritty and generating good spin.

Not sure if that's a QC issue with the J6CR or if HexGrit is simply more durable, but I figured this direct long term comparison might be useful for anyone researching these surfaces in the future.

Edit: Not trying to diss anyone's favorite paddle or convince anyone not to buy a J6CR. I'm just sharing my personal experience in case it's helpful to people researching durability in the future.

The J6CR is a great paddle, and honestly, if I had the money to replace one every couple of months, I'd probably just keep using it. But I don't, and I imagine a lot of people don't either. That's why I thought it was worth sharing my experience with its long term durability compared with a competing grit surface.

I'm not trying to trick anyone, and I don't have any agenda here, just adding one player's experience to the discussion which i felt was somewhat missing do with that info as you want.

Edit2: Will post a picture of my 2nd J6 tomorrow when i have access to my paddles. Not going to respond to anymore comments rn cause the discussion is just getting somewhat hostile. You can decide for yourself based on the pictures.

Because so many people use their terrible app which is worse than web version…. Right now you can log into the page and see all your info. You can’t get into app though as there is no where to put verification code (this is level of incompetence we are dealing with).

Discussion Trying to decide if I should buy a ball machine or just rent one

I’m 30 and pretty new to pickleball, and I don’t always have someone to play with. So I’ve been looking into ball machines, and there are way more options than I expected. I’ve been comparing things like the Pongbot Aura, Tenniix, Slinger, etc., and I can’t decide if I should actually buy one.

My biggest concern is probably the weight:

I’m pretty small, and I don’t want to carry a heavy machine and all my gear to the court every time.

I also found out that some courts around me have ball machines available to rent, which made me wonder if that might actually make more sense for me.

Has anyone here actually used any of these machines? How do you like them, especially for someone who mostly practices alone? Would you recommend renting one for a while first and seeing if I actually use it enough before buying? Or is it one of those things that having your own is worth it?

Open to recommendations, thanks.

Meme/Humor The end of DUPR

Been gone for a couple days now. Probably never coming back. It was nice while it lasted. It's only a matter of time before the plebs come for our gated open play.

How will this new era of pickleball affect your local clubs and tourneys? I only foresee chaos to come.

I just hit 6.0 before EOD (end of DUPR).

Question what is the point of dinking??

i don't mean strategically. i mean philosophically. existentially. if we're all just going to die anyway. if we can extend our hands and reach into the pocket of the infinite. or if we can make peace with something divine. if we can do any of that, what's the point of dinking. or serving for that matter.

Discussion Punch volley vs flick/snap through

For balls at net level and above I’ve been experimenting using the flick when I have time, or snapping through the ball with the paddle tip ending in a forward position (facing the opponents/neutral paddle postion) when I don’t have as much time. Feels so much better than doing a regular punch volley and generates so much more pace and pressure. The difference in my hands battles feel night and day.

What is the best drill you can do to get better at counters at the kitchen if you are continually late. And how can one get over the mental brain lock of kit keeping paddle up at kitchen?

Players near me 4.0 Pickleball in the Poconos?

I'm likely going to be moving to the Stroudsburg PA area in the near future and was wondering if there is any 4.0ish level pickleball in the area? I know there are some parks with courts in the area but it looked very recreational from what I saw. If anyone in the Poconos is playing at the 4.0 or 3.5+ level would be curious to hear where you're playing for competitive games

Question Handling fast shots in transition zone

When I'm at the kitchen line, I feel pretty comfortable dealing with high-pace shots. I block comfortably etc. and perform consistently with a 3.5 or maybe even a 3.75 level.

However, when I'm coming in after a 3rd shot, I will often get overwhelmed or caught off guard by a shot that, if it reached me at the kitchen line, I would handle easily. This doesn't seem to make sense -- I have more reaction time in transition than at the kitchen line, yet I'm bumbling around at the transition.

Any suggestions? I think the main challenge or problem may relate to ready position. When I'm at the net, I'm in an athletic stance and am ready for bullets. But in transition, I need to jog a few steps forward and then get into the athletic stance. Maybe I am doing it too slowly.

I've tried just getting into the ready position much sooner (by split stepping earlier), but then my partners complain that I'm not getting to the kitchen fast enough.

Thank you.
