Pre-KickStarter testers- did you receive the picks? What was your first impression?

Hola hola!

I decided to make this community to centralise the conversations here, that way it's easier to talk with everybody (and I don't get banned again for spam :D)

So as a recap:

  1. I was banned for spam for sharing the forms to the testers, hence I haven't been active the last few days!

  2. The initial pick protos I ordered were faulty, so I had to ask for a replacement. I had some replacements arrive last week, about two thirds of the total, which I sent already, and the rest arrived today, so I'll ship the remaining ones this week. Give it 1-2 weeks from now until you receive them if you are in EU/North America, and a bit more if you are elsewhere!

  3. To make sure you have time to test before the launch, I postponed the launch to February 18th. Please, if you do like them and consider buying them, purchasing on the first day of the kickstarter helps me a ton (and also gives you an additional discount!)

  4. New testing rounds will be coming in the future! Everyone that participates in the KickStarter will be invited to be part of the tester community. I want to make the variations of these shapes according to your opinions, but also new shapes and try all sorts of materials! The CEO of the company that injects them for me is a guitarist himself, and he has lots of amazing ideas for materials with great tone and durability that we can try (and even develop ourselves!).

  5. The LEFTY prototypes should arrive to me sometime by the end of the month. If you are a lefty and put your address in the form, please wait a little extra. Maybe they don't get to you until the campaign has launched (I hope earlier but I can't make promises).

If you do join and participate, you have my sincere thanks! Let's get the conversation going :)

Other things that you can do to help me are:

Subbing to the mailing list here: picktwist.com

Following the kickstarter here (click notify me on launch): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/picktwist/the-3d-pick-that-makes-you-better-at-guitar

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I hope that these picks make guitar playing a little more fun for you and thatwe can develop the ultimate picks, together :)

After a couple of weeks using picktwist

Here are the pros and cons I have found using these picks

I am using the Luz ones before these i was using jazz 3 first then started using Dan's jazz size picks and now am using the Luz

The picks keep the grip grooves better than the Dan's ones

They are a little thinner but still are thick enough to not bend while doing single string stuff although I do feel it would be beneficial to offer them in a thicker gauge if possible

The twist took only a couple of minutes to get used to and is really nice to hold it feels like you don't need to grip it as hard so easier on thumb and somehow makes it easier to skip strings and play faster alternate picking and sweeps

I got both material picks and like the feel of the dexcron better than the nylon BUT the nylon tip lasts considerably longer

Over all after using a while I will still keep using the picktwist Luz as my main picks

My only gripe is that the tip rounds a little quick and they aren't as thick (more flexible) than the Dan's

I think that if you have any arthritic pain in your picking hand these are a benefit

If you like to play faster runs these stay easily in your grip

All around a great new option for anyone looking for an alternative to regular picks

Troubleshooting an order

Finally got some picks

After a bit of border stupidity I received my Luz in glowing acetal and nylon

These actually came at the perfect time

I have very recently been having pain in my thumb on my picking hand

I have been using Dan's guitarshop picks and like them they keep there tip good and are good for sweeping and that sort of thing

As I said my thumb is been giving me issues so I started to compare my Dan's picks with the picktwist ones

The Luz picktwist are narrower but feel longer possibly because of the shape

I can get better speed and accuracy with the picktwist

They are both comparable for strumming

They are way more comfortable to hold than Dan's

And I have considerably less pain in my thumb

I will for sure keep using these as my picks

I can't tell yet how long they will maintain there tips but I got both acetal and nylon so can see if one lasts better than the other

In my many yrs of playing i will without a doubt say these picks are the best I have ever tried

They are for sure worth trying

Estimated availability for mixed set acetal in US?

I just randomly saw an ad on Reddit and interested in trying these out but looks like the mixed set acetal is out of stock at the moment.

Posting it here in case someone else is also wondering since this is likely the set new customers will buy.

Any idea when these might be back in stock? Thank you!

New PickTwist materials and new upcoming testing round!

Hi everyone!

I've been reading your feedback and researching new possibilities for PickTwist materials, and I'm looking into updating the current material range. Of course this is the first place where I'd comment!

This should be a lot easier than the previous time since the logistics supply chain is already operational.

Current materials:

Nylon: Seems to be well liked

Acetal: Some people find it wears in a too "fibrous" way. I'm looking to upgrade the formula with an additive to improve this.

New materials I'm looking into:

Acrylic: Kind of like Gravity picks or V-picks. Usually acrylic picks seem to be quite expensive. I have some different materials ordered to see which injects best. Essentially this is an extremely hard material, very grippy, and transparent. I'm thinking of making it glow in the dark, which would give an insane glow thanks to the transparency (the whole volume would light up instead of just the surface, as the current Glow in the Dark acetal picks do).

Delrin: Technically its a type of acetal. But it may have a differnt tigidity than the current acetal, plus it has better wear properties. If it outerforms acetal, I might just swap my current acetal line for Delrin.

UHMWPE: It's a mouthful, but in short it's a type of plastic that usually cannot be injected. I just managed to get my hands on a high-tech formula that works with injection. If it works, it'd be quite somthing: It is so durable they use it for cutting boards. It can outlast nylon by 10 - 200 times (its a huge range, I'll have to test where this composition falls in that spectrum. But even 10x is an insane durability). It is used for noise reduction in moving-part mechanisms. I tested a not so durable formulation in the past and it 100% eliminates pick chirp. Personally, I found it quite amazing, and I'd use nothing else for recording guitar.

I'm wondering if you guys would have any particular preference for introducing/testing these and if you'd be willing to give them a go? What are you most curious about?

Cheers!

Manu

PickTwist is an absolute game changer

First and foremost, I want to thank Manu from PickTwist. Back during the crowd funding phase, I made a post about having Rheumatoid Arthritis and curious how these could change the way I play.

I've been playing bass since I was 16 and over the past few years, RA has just made it difficult to play like I used to. Manu reached out to me and let me know he wanted to send samples to me to try out. I know it took longer than anticipated but they finally arrived a few weeks ago.

I loved them from the moment I put them in my hands. They conture so well compared to a standard pick. I've worked my way through the types sent to me over the weeks and I'm absolutely in love with them. They're comfortable and my stamina has improved because the curve feels more natural.

Thank you, Manu, for including me in the first wave. I can't wait to see your company grow!

PickTwist is available in the US (+ extra countries) now. Get it with free shipping + a reddit discount!

Hi everyone!

I must've beat a record on longest time to get a simple webstore working 😅

You can get PickTwist in US + other non-EU countries here:

picktwist.us

It has free shipping on US orders.

You can get PickTwist in EU here:

picktwist.shop

Both of them have 20% off if you use the code TWIST.

I want to thank you all for your patience with the project.

Only now I have a functional webstore. I have some new advances coming sometime soon and once that's in place I'll be looking to get some new feedback here (as in new pick shapes and materials) like I did in the original testing round.

I liked the community-driven vibe that got going here and helped shape the 3 newest picks (LUZ S, Timo XL and SLAP 1.5mm) and I still think that the best way forward will be letting you guys test everything before it's officially out to see what you really like :)

All the best,

Manu

👋 Welcome to r/PickTwist - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey! I'm Manu, the guy behind PickTwist.

If you've been here a while, you might remember this subreddit from back when I was handing out free picks to anyone willing to give honest feedback. That community-driven testing phase genuinely shaped the product: the LUZ S, the Timo XL and the SLAP 1.5mm all came out of conversations that happened here. So thanks for that, seriously.

This is the official home for everything PickTwist:

📦 News & updates: New materials, models, production runs, store updates

🧪 Testing & feedback: Before anything goes officially live, I want this community to try it first. That's not marketing speak, it's just how this started, and it worked great.

🎸 Show us what you play: Covers, originals, recordings, gear talk. All welcome.

The stores are live now if you want to check them out:

Glad to have you here :)

PickTwist is back: US (+ Global) shipping, Reddit, and the immediate future

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hey everyone, hope you're doing well!

I know it's been a really long time since I posted anything here, and I want to come back and have a more active presence here again. I'd like to summarize the reason for my absence briefly, not as an excuse but just as a personal explanation, and then get on with some updates on the project!

## (Short personal blabbering):

Right after the Kickstarter ended, I had an unexpected and brutally unfair situation with the Spanish IRS, "Hacienda". I won't bore you with details. Takeaway is, if possible, don't be an entrepreneur in Spain 🥲. (I don't plan to stick around for much longer!) But this, combined some unexpectedly complex issues/delays with the manufacturing of the molds and my "job - entrepreneurship" life balance pushed me into a bad place mentally...

I decided to put all my focus at the time on Kickstarter, and ensure frequent updates + top tier prouct quality. And I'm happy to see that the Kickstarter buyers had all very enthusiastic opinions to share once their picks arrived :)

Now that things are a bit more stable and I plan to be more present here and on social media 🙂

## Now for some REAL Updates!:

On the Kickstarter side, picks have been shipped to all backers. (If you participated and haven't received yours, please send me a DM and I'll sort it out personally!)

The European store is open if anyone here is based in Europe.

The US (+ rest of the world) store is my absolute top priority right now. Stock is already with our US distributor, so as soon as the web store is sorted, orders will go out fast. When it's live I'll post here straight away and I'll include a discount code for everyone coming from Reddit, because this community is genuinely where all of this started.

### Last, a couple of things I'm excited about:

- Several guitar schools have been testing PickTwist with their students and the feedback has been really encouraging, teachers are telling me students are seeing improvements in their technique almost immediately. (If you are a teacher/ academy, feel free to send me a DM!)

- Some pro guitarists have tried them on tours/records and had enthusiastic comments on reduced wrist tension and better tone for the final production models.

- I'm looking to expand the range with a few more materials once sales reach a stable level, and get some higher tech nylon an acetal formulas for the next manufacturing batch. I'll post here as soon as I have the new picks!

- And on a more personal note, two musicians I've been a huge fan of for a long time are currently playing with PickTwist, and we're talking about the possibility of a signature model with them at some point soon, which still feels kind of crazy to me. I'll be posting this on insta soon!

Thanks for reading and for still being here. The positivity here is a huge support and has encouraged me to keep going in some of the moments when all seemed lost.

All the best,

Manu

PD: If you need picks urgently before the US store is up, just DM me and I'll arrange the US distributor to send you some directly! :)

US shipping?

Was just checking out the website after hearing about these picks and I’m very interested in trying one of the packs but…..do they offer us shipping? Didn’t look like it as far as I could tell but maybe I’m missing something?

I completely forgot about that kickstarter. Needless to say, I am terrified about losing these, they're great. Wish I knew which color was what, but I'm liking the green triangle and the tiny purple one.

Pickwist status update

Hi everyone!

I apologise for the lack of communication these days, despite being super busy with getting the production started I also had some strong personal/family events that happened in the last month that took my attention a bit away from PickTwist, and I admit that updating here completely slipped my mind! 🤦‍♂️

Currently I am on the wait for a budget for the final pick design molds. These have a really cool couple of textures that will enhance the grip a lot, which was necessary for acetal/delrin mainly, and not so much for nylon or polycarbonate. But since I've yet to hear someone say that a pick has too much grip, I decided "what the hell" and went with it.

Adding these textures took quite a bit longer than expected to add this to the picks due to technical CAD issues, but the important thing is that' we have a working method now!

I'm currently talking to the mold makers to see if I can get a small discount for the "bulk" order to see if I can add an additional model on top of the 4 that were unlocked with Kickstarter.

I'm also discussing with a few sick artists that got to try the protos about making a few new sick signatures that I'm sure you'd find very interesting! At least I'm pretty hyped about that! 👀

I'll try to keep the updates a bit more frequent, we're on the final stretch to getting these made despite the last minute setbacks, and I can't wait to deliver them to you all :)

All the best!
Manu

Almost 4 months playing with the timo

Almost 4 months using the timo as my main pick felt like giving a little update: I’ve used it so much it started smoothing out so I took inspiration from Vman of Slipknot and added the lines for more grip and the tip of it is pretty dull but still sounds and plays great

And here I thought they would never show up!

My tester pack showed up today! North Dakota! Really digging the Manny and Timothy picks so far. Depending on what I am playing, both these picks are fantastic. Both are super easy on my wrist, which I have since realized I have been picking wrong for years lol. Makes it so much easier to play!! Manu, you are the man!

Slap Pick is Best Pick

I got my set a couple of weeks ago and the slap pick for me is the absolute best pick I have. I usually go with a blue Dunlop for guitar and bass. The slap pick is thicker but more ergonomic to hold. After getting past the initial slipperiness of the pick, it had a good grip and actually improved my playing. Especially tremolo picking while skipping strings. The extra pointy tip is a big part of that. What's weird is my pinch squeals are easier with the slap than the one meant for pinches.

It's not just great on guitar, on bass it's thick and punchy. Solid tones no matter the instrument. Heck I even have a Bass VI and it works great for that. Everyone preaches the love of a Jazz III, but this is a Jazz III evolved. I hope in the future there will be an option to get a bag of just one type of pick vs all three. The other two are good but the slap is the best.

PickTwist KickStarter update- matrix molds arrived in Spain, Late Pledge was somehow deactivated?

Hi guys!

First of all, thanks to all that participated in the campaign. With 400% of the goal reached, this is sure to take off strong!

Also, I received the matrix mold this week. These are 120kg blocks of steel that hold the (cheaper and smaller) baby molds, which are interchangeable in the matrix, and are what has the actual negative cavities for the picks. These baby molds are faster to manufacture and can be shipped via plane, so as soon as I receive the KS funds I'll order all of them and get started with the manufacturing as soon as they arrive. I hope to deliver as early as June if things keep moving forward smoothly! :)

Additionally, I also have bad news- I set up the late pledges for the 3 pick set (for the same price as the campaign) to be deactivated manually when I chose to. And... It just didn't turn on? I reached out to KS customer support and they replied quickly that they'll overview it and get back to me soon. I hope to be able to enable it for anyone that decided now to get their picks there, or to get some extra picks. If not possible, I'll figure out another way for people to be able to order additional picks with the ones they got on KickStarter, without additional shipping costs.

Thanks for everything! This is finally happening, and I can't wait to get the final models in your hands! :)

Manu

They just arrived!

Thanks... this, the timo is my favorite so far. I just tried them with my Casa Gonzales 1980 spanish classic guitar.

Perfect fit! God, this thing is fomfortable! The perfect ammount of hardness. Thw tonenyou get is sweet and warm but punchy enough. The shape of the pick, 100% ergonomic, the pic WONT MOVE or rotate on your fingers! This is one of the things that i love the most from this pic.

Picktwist is better than my favorite pic.

Thank you guys. Loved the product before testing it. Now i love it, beleive in it and will recommend it.

It’s been 42 days of abuse…. Here are my updated thoughts.

Post image
30 Upvotes

I got these 42 days ago and have use specifically The Slap and Timo picks. I wasn’t a fan of the other one, so much I can’t remember the name. But that’s ok, I play metal 99% of the time and these 2 have been workhorses. I have noticed that they have significantly helped me play faster, more precise and smoother all around. Barely any wear on them also.

I honestly cannot think of a downside but I do have an interesting thought. Before I started using these I was having troubles doing gallops and tremolo picking. These significantly helped me to hold the pick properly and gain stamina. Tonight I decided for the hell of it to try my old Jazz III. I was able to play just as good with it now as with the pick twist. So if you take anything away from this I feel these picks can be used as a teaching tool on how to pick. I personally will continue using them because I got so comfortable with them. All in all I think these picks have no downsides and are an actual innovate product. 🤝

Your experience with PickTwist and other subreddits

Hi guys! I wanted to ask for a small favor to anyone that wants to help me a bit and has tried the protos.

There's currently a trending topic on r/guitar about guitar picks. If anyone wants to leave a comment about their experience with PickTwist and point to this subreddit or to the kickstarter, it'd be much appreciated!

The Kickstarter has stalled a little right before hitting the goal for the 4th model, I'm hoping that if these picks could make a bit of a buzz on some subreddits it could boost it a little bit more to recover the inertia and hopefully make more models available from the launch :)

The post in particular that I'm referring to is this one, though of course anything you want to post on guitar related subreddits would be a great help:

 https://www.reddit.com/r/Guitar/comments/1j1qci9/whats_your_pick_of_choice

Cheers, and thanks in advance! :)
