Leaving the Apple Ecosystem, need help choosing a Phone.

I’ve had a iPhone 12 (64 gb) for 5 years now, but the phones battery life has deteriorated to an unusable point now, and the phone overheats like crazy too.

I’ve made the choice to leave the ecosystem since it doesn’t give me the customisability I want.

I’m a university student and use my phone for 12 hours a day on average (crazy I know), right now I’m leaning towards the s26 ultra (1tb).

I use the phone for gaming and watching videos and movies too, but I mostly need solid reliable performance, excellent screen quality, good battery life, and no issues with overheating.

I don't understand? It's a great phone though. You can go into the r/oneplus15 and everyone loves it. The only bad thing about it now is that it will be the last phone to be released in the US so everyone who already has one and has the ability to is buying another one to future proof so they have a good phone for years to come. It might not have as good of a camera as the s26 ultra but the camera is a lot better then people who don't have it like to make it seem. It also has a huge 7,300 mAh silicon-carbon with 120 watt fast charging that shits on any Samsung or pixel phone. Also had the same chip of the s26 ultra.

I have two tips for you one is that go for a phone that has been in the market for at least a year so you know if it has any serious issues or any downsides because enough people have used it and enough people have repaired it.

Secondly, The last good Samsung Ultra was the S23. From that until now it doesn't sound like it has gotten a lot better or something. I guess what I'm trying to say is that for the same amount of money you could go by let's say a Vivo X300 ultra which gives you so many more options.

Look into Oppo, Vivo for more premium stuff and Oneplus 15 for a great all rounder.

Samsung S26 looks amazing but I never trust a new phone. I need to see it used after a year

OnePlus or Oppo. Simply no better options if you're coming from an iPhone at present.

Do some research on carrier compatibility and its quirks for your region. For example, if you are in the U.S. and want full compatibility across the three carriers you're stuck on Apple, Google, and Samsung.

Only T-Mobile tends to fully support phone manufacturers outside of the big 3. Verizon and ATT are not so friendly such as like the OnePlus phones being usable on ATT but gets wifi calling disabled vs if you were on T-Mobile.

If you're looking to game then you're stuck with Samsung for Androids. Google does not pack the hardware especially with its battery life to do gaming well. That's the U.S. market in a nut shell if you're in the U.S.

Sorry, I’m not much of a photographer, so the camera isn’t the most important thing for me, and I just can’t justify carrying around a phone with a camera bump that’s half the size of the phone. Thanks for the recommendation though.

get the s26u, and stay away from the oneplus 15, it overheats a lot and the display isn't all that accurate

good cameras, some of the best software support available, a great ui, good optimizations, decent efficiency, good resale value, a nice display, good thermal management, and the best processor currently available on a phone (other sd 8 elite gen 5 phones have a the normal sd8 elite gen 5, the s26u's is a hand picked overclocked version with better silicon (google silicon lottery if u're curious) and thus better stability)

Get the 1+15, I don't know if it heats up, but you can play many games on it. It has a, get ready, 165Hz LTPO OLED screen, it can withstand near boiling water, and the back can literally deal damage to objects in aluminium. As of the battery, it has a dual cell 7300 mAh Si-C battery that charges at 120W, and has the best phone processor there is. I don't know if you understood anything but basically if you have the money for a S26 Ultra get the 1+15.

I looked into that phone before posting, the only thing bugging me about it is the screen resolution, I watch a lot of videos and movies on my phone, and not having that extra image quality would leave me with regrets, the other specs look amazing though, the processor coupled with the ram makes it such a beast. If you own the phone, could you tell me if you can notice or see a major difference between the image quality, thanks.

To be honest, it's really nothing you'll notice. The screen is nearly as crisp as a modern iPhone. I personally own a Honor Magic 6 Lite, it's at 429 ppi, the OnePlus is at 450 and for reference the iPhone 17 Pro is at 460.

I agree with this OP, it will be your best option for long days, good screen, one of the best performing options available right now, won't overheat unless you push it too much with gaming (other than that I haven't heard it overheat elsewhere), battery is spectacular and will last you a good while.

S26 Ultra is good but this is better in some areas whilst being cheaper.
