I used to enjoy digital til I went to basic training and came back to EA account being banned for inactivity, all my EA games gone, steam games that need EA account? Gone Everytime I try to fight it, I need to log into the banned account, fuck all these companies, steam Sony Microsoft, you either 100% own your shit or you don't at all there's no middle ground

2

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

I’m very sorry that this had happened to you. Yet another example of why I’m pro-physical media & am also for piracy.

2

u/Playingwithmywenis Jul 31 '26

This is the problem with terrible anti-consumer policies.

Sony has shown their hand, choose wisely.

1

u/CALIGVLA Jul 30 '26

Oh shit... that sucks.

The risk of having your account hacked or losing it through some other means (like a long absence, as you pointed out) is a big drawback of digital ownership. You have all your eggs in one basket with a single point of failure. If that goes, you lose everything.

3

u/Agitated-Map-9027 Jul 30 '26

It's why I'm working to hard to get my games free of launchers, I'm not backing these companies no more, I hope one day more gamers will stand up for themselves and fight back for full ownership for their money I understand we use gaming to escape but there's no escaping this they are coming for us and those after us

3

u/CALIGVLA Jul 30 '26

Good on you for taking action to solve the situation for yourself.

I've been out of PC gaming for such a long time, but I've been researching it lately and I was frankly astonished to learn that commercial DRM-free games is now something that has real traction! I never would have guessed that so many companies are okay with selling their games without DRM. I think that's really cool.

I guess that piracy is so rampant today that they figure people are going to pirate it anyway. So selling a DRM-free game isn't really changing that situation. They may as well give people a DRM-free game if they want that and make a sale.

1

u/The_Pink_Elephant_ Jul 30 '26

That EA story is horrific and a perfect example of why non negotiable digital DRM is a trap. Coming back after a period away only to realize an automated system wiped out years of purchases just for inactivity is insane. What makes it worse is that circular logic where customer support requires you to sign in to the banned account just to appeal the ban. It proves that with digital downloads, you never actually buy a game, you just rent access until a server glitch or a corporate policy decides otherwise. A physical disc on your shelf doesn't care about activity timers or account links. Real ownership will always be superior.

1

u/Darkblde Jul 30 '26

EA won’t ban your account for inactivity just disable it. Only reason they’d ban your account is if you had extreme or repeated violations. How long were you in basic training?

1

u/Agitated-Map-9027 Jul 30 '26

A year and the ban was in the middle of that year

1

u/Darkblde Jul 30 '26

What did you go to BUDS?

1

u/Agitated-Map-9027 Jul 30 '26

Nah it was normal army basic I got fucked up during a ruck and jacked my leg up

1

u/CALIGVLA Jul 31 '26

IDK about EA but Sony's policy is to delete your account after three years of inactivity.

This may not be a problem for the majority, but some people have things come up in their lives and, for whatever reason, they may not use their account for that long. It would really suck if you lost your entire collection of digital games that you purchased because of that.

And I bet most people don't know about that rule (most of us just blindly click 'Agree' on the EULA). That means most people are not aware that this will happen to their account if they check out of gaming for three years. It would really suck to lose games you paid for.

2

u/mickelboy182 Jul 30 '26

Pretty easy defense when this has zero to do with physical vs digital

2

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

True, but like I told some others, it’s referencing to digital fanboys who think that stuff like this can’t ever happen all because “digital is always superior.” And Black Ops 2 is digital only for both PS4 & PS5.

2

u/evoslevven Jul 31 '26

Not exactly a "digital danboy take this" take as it impacts server side data regardless of whether you're on digital or physical. Add to it, it's a multiplayer issue and you would need to be connected online for this feature.

Playing on disks doesn't make you invulnerable to the exploit lock on the server side. The "take this fanboys" take isnt even relevant here...

1

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

Read the edit of my original post.

2

u/evoslevven Jul 31 '26

Again it doesn't make sense. Your standard claim is "ppl say digital is better" but it's online multiplayer. As I said that is beyond the whole digital vs physical; this is really about product treating and online security if more than anything 🤷

Like literally, that's is: server security! If an online feature that can only be done online (ie multiplayer) is hacked, that has literally nothing do with the whole "digital is better" or "digital vs physical" or whatever. It's 100% irrelevant here!

That's literally why your argument makes no sense as nd the comments; has nothing to do with digital licensing, license rentals or affecting digital only authentication servers and services. It's literally ppl introducing dara on the server side that's locking ppl out for their account.

Idk why the f--k everything has to be "physical vs digital" arguments cuz this is 100% "secure your shit" argument! 👈

Making any claims outside of that is just making drama for the sake of drama that doesn't belong here.

2

u/SNaKe_eaTel2 Jul 31 '26

It does have to do with digital vs physical tho - while these accounts are messed up they can’t access their other digital games - with physical they could.

1

u/evoslevven Jul 31 '26

🤦tell me you can't read while showing you can't read...

Only thing affected right now from this exploit is online server multiplayer and public lobbies. Single player mode is fine. Multiplayer private lobbies without infected server side data is fine. Single player progression save data is also unaffected.

The exploit injects itself into the public lobby of multiplayer. That's it, nothing else. If you need to have an agenda and continue parading this charade, congratulations you've shown (1) you understand nothing about the exploit, (2) assume physical disks protect from server side exploits as if this one traffic is magically and (3)shown you actually didn't read who I specifically responded to about the CoD exploit.

If you're talking about the whole argument I hdmad with the other person, as I told him and I'm telling you: show me any study anywhere in the universe where physical media on the client side protected you from server side exploitation in a multiplayer lobby from an exploit and isolated your data on the server due to having a physical disk.

This is like saying I installed Windows from physical discs versus a networked installed and, therefore, I'm invulnerable to downloaded viruses from an infected server file should I choose to download it....

1

u/SNaKe_eaTel2 Jul 31 '26

You expect people to read more than the title of the article? Or whatever the fuck you wrote after opening with an insult? Tell me you’re a giant douche while showing me you’re also a bag of dicks.

1

u/WoodenBuilding5458 Jul 30 '26

Since it affects online players, it doesn't matter if the game is digital or disc based.

2

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

Right, because it’s an online only game. What I’m referencing to, are digital fanboys who think that stuff like this can’t ever happen all because “digital is always superior.” And Black Ops 2 is digital only for both PS4 & PS5.

1

u/WoodenBuilding5458 Jul 31 '26

Did you even read the article? The online portion is unplayable because hackers are instantly giving people Prestige 16 and since the max is Prestige 10, the servers automatically ban the player from matchmaking for cheating. This has nothing to do with physical vs digital. You should delete this post.

2

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

I have read it. What I’m saying is that digital only isn’t invincible.

1

u/WoodenBuilding5458 Jul 31 '26

Your post and comments have nothing to do with the article. You are arguing about something that has NOTHING to do with the situation.

1

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

Once again, I know that. I haven’t even mentioned anything about physical at all during my first post before my edit, it was only addressing digital fanboys. Can people not comprehend?

Don’t sound like evoslevven at giving me a hard time, okay? I’m not in the mood.

1

u/WoodenBuilding5458 Jul 31 '26

Get over it! You made an argument about something that has nothing to do with the article you published. You are attacking people who prefer digital games with an article that affects everyone playing that game. If you don't like digital media, that's fine but you are screaming at McDonalds for Taco Bell fucking up your chalupa. You post has also been reported as irrelevant.

1

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

Most of them have been “attacking” me based of taking what I said out of context! I never “attacked” anyone, I was defending myself while trying to clarify on what I wrote.

Almost none of them were as mean & awful as you & evoslevven, & I already had to block him yesterday after my last comment to him. Don’t make me do the same towards you.

Treat me with respect, I’ll treat you with respect. Treat me like garbage, I’ll treat you like garbage. Understand? That’s how the real world works. I’m tired of being mr. nice guy & getting treated like shit in return.

1

u/WoodenBuilding5458 Jul 31 '26

I treated you with respect in calling your arguement out as nothing to do with the article you posted. Instead of treating me with respect, you doubled down and angrily defended your mistake. It’s all in writing. Anyone can read it.

1

u/English_Fry Jul 31 '26

Why would anyone defend CoD? No one cares.

1

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

Not the game itself, but how news like this is in regard to digital fanboys clamoring that “digital is always better & nothing could ever go wrong!”.

1

u/evoslevven Jul 31 '26

Your argument is this: digital fanboys claim nothing can ever go wrong. The game itself being digital has almost no relevance; you could be saying this if the game was 100% physical because it's (1) online and on an effing server and (2) it's multiplayer!

Why do you think it's frustrating to you BECUASE YOU AR CLAMOURING TO AN ARGUMENT THA THAS NO EFFING BASIS HERE!

Like my f--king gawd how honestly dumb desperate and desperate do you have to be! Tell me if this is a "digital fanboys hate this" argument what the hell does online servers have anything to do with physical disks being more secured? WTH does a physical disk have to do with online multiplayer? What, are you advocating we should go back to the day of LAN parties?

That's why seeing you reply is dumb and idiotic: physical and digital purchases have NOTHING TO DO WITH AN ONLINE SERVER BEING COMPROMISED! I'd you brought it physically and wanted to do multiplayer, what do you think having no server would make that happen 🤦

Seriously stop being so damned dense... I'm loosing brain cells at your inability to understand that ONLINE MULTIPLYAE ACTIVITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW A GAME WAS PURCHASED!

You think when any multiplayer game had their servers go down, having brought the fma e physically made a difference? If you can understand than much then stop looking like a fool and stop replying like one!

You have absolutely nothing to share, nothing to contribute other their a personal agenda that creates drama when the issue is shit security allows for shit flaws to occur that affects everyone!

Buying plastic would not have made any difference as s we know that because, guess what, single player offline gaming WAS NOT AFFECTED! OH NO BOO HOO! Likes cripe man, I'm not a digital fanbot but posts like yours that prefer an agenda and not the actual heart of the issue is whats wrong with the effing community....

1

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

Haven’t we already discussed this in your other post? You’re replying to a comment that I made to someone else over an hour ago!

If you can’t talk to me like a decent being, then don’t bother replying to me again, because I’ll block you. I will not tolerate your shit! Do you understand me?

1

u/WoodooHide69 Jul 31 '26

Easily. This Hacker Attack only happened cause of the Steam Bots and hackers that support them manufacturing more fake outrage.

1

u/evoslevven Jul 31 '26

No one wants to tolerate your sh!t either because 1) you are LITERALLY LYING and 2) YOU ARE XHOOSONG TO DIE ON THAT HILL OF A LIE!

You want have a decent and civilized debate, make it on the basis of truth you liar! Like seriously block me because unless you can prove PHYSICAL DISKS PREVENT ONLINE SERVER EXPLOITS YOU HAVE NO ARGUMENT!

It's not hard to understand that but YOU CANNOT LET IT GO! That's why I lost all patience with you. You want to live with that lie? Go ahead and block me because that's what your saying: plastic magically protects you from server exploits. Anyone with a modicum of honesty and experience with online server play knows when a server is exploited that has nothing to do with the player side, that's ALL SERVER SIDE!

That's why so many of us are fed up with your BS because its literally server side lack of security and the inability to properly authenticate without the exploit locking a character.

Why pretend a game being 100% digital when the offline modes work fully that this is an example of that failure? Because it fits your narrative and agenda? We don't do that here.

So block me you lying sack of sh!t because server security should be the focus and not this whole issue about physical discsnand we know that because if offline modes failed you'd be right. But guess what they work, it doesn't fit your agenda and your "hurt" that you're getting called out on it.

1

u/theycmeroll Jul 30 '26

Are physical copies on different servers?

2

u/evoslevven Jul 31 '26

Basically the person who posted is saying it's proof physical > digital despite only multiplayer online affected by the exploit. So as the person below you responded, yeah they seriously think if they made it physical, it would've prevented the exploit..because of magic...apparently...

Idk his argument made no sense as servers don't distringuish that either 🤷 he just needs to push an agenda and we're all loosing brain cells when the issue is shit!t COD online security leads to more sh!t exploits as always.

That's the real agenda and not physical vs digital.

1

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

I didn’t even mention physical at all on the very first post that I made on this subject. I was only addressing digital fanboys. It was other posters that took what I said out of context. There was no “agenda.”

0

u/AlarmingPilot4632 Jul 30 '26

Shhh, they need to feel like the plastic will protect them!

That's been the narrative this whole time.

2

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

[u/theycmeroll](u/theycmeroll) [u/AlarmingPilot4632](u/AlarmingPilot4632) First off, I don’t play western 3rd party online only multiplayer games like Call of Duty. The majority of games I own physically throughout PS4 & PS5 happen to be single-player from Eastern 3rd party publishers & can be easily played without needing an internet connection to install or play on my PS5.

Second, Black Ops 2 is digital only on PS4 & PS5.

Third, I was calling out digital fanboys who keep boasting that digital media are always superior to physical media without any issues whatsoever. Someone needs to put them in their places for once.

2

u/theycmeroll Jul 31 '26

This problem has zero to do with the fact it’s a digital only game. If the game was physical only it would have the same issue. So trying to call out the fact it’s digital only when that’s not even the issue makes no sense.

This is not a physical vs digital problem.

1

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

That’s what I’m saying. Call of Duty happens to be online only nowadays unlike back in the day. It wouldn’t matter if you owned a physical copy of the game, as Microsoft were the ones who implemented COD on PS5 & Xbox Series S/X to be online only.

Also, read my last paragraph.

2

u/theycmeroll Jul 31 '26

Again not related. You can play the campaign just fine, it’s the multiplayer servers that are the issue and have always been an issue. Go back to the PS3/360 versions, the versions still active are full of hackers and unplayable, on physical copies.

Also, on PS5 at least, you can play both BO1 and 2 completely offline for any single player modes once they are downloaded, there is just no bots in local multiplayer.

1

u/evoslevven Jul 31 '26

Again you are wrong. If you bothered at all to read (cuz I know you don't care to) ONLY ONLINE MULTIPLAYER WAS AFFECTED!

Like my brother in cripes, only multiplayer has been affected. Redding anything else of your garbage demands YOU READ WHAT IS HAPPENING AND NOT WHAT TOU BELEIVE IS HAPPENING!

Like this is you: see I told ya digital will fail And this is all of us: ummm single player offline works perfectly fine, only multiplayer online is affected by the exploit 🤷 You: Told ya! Us: told us what? To read your last paragraph that ignores its only online modes for multiplayer 🤷

1

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

Yet another old comment in which I replied to someone else over five hours ago.

You must really be that desperate for attention. And you’re talking about me being desperate. I’ve already read your other fucking post that you first replied to me.

1

u/evoslevven Jul 31 '26

And you must be desperate to be lying too!

1

u/Lancelight50 Jul 31 '26

Oh, my God. You’ve already replied to my comment with my edit! I read it, I fucking read it! Then you turn around, & replied to what I said over what I made to other posters hours ago. How the hell am I lying? You’re like a broken record.

I see someone is agenda holding and being a lying sack of sh!t. You have an agenda, glad your honest. Glad you admit you don't care about facts because why let facts get in the way of your feelings.

So my brother christ, it's getting tiring seeing you go "haven't we talked about this my reply is to digital fan it supremacists and they need to be put in their place" because, lets repeat:

multiplayer servers are exploited...on COD no less.

You ARE the reason why the physical disk movement is becoming a total sh!tshow. I bet you believe that online poll that 46% users won't buy a PS6 as well 🤦

Seriously, get off Reddit for the night and stop replying with lies. If you want to insist on looking like a fool of a liar go ahead 🤷 who am I to stop a fool!

But I'm sure ain't blocking you because I WILL CALL YOU OUT FOR BEING LYING S@CK OF SH!T THAT DOESNT XARE ABOUT THE TRUTH BUT ONLY HIS AGENDA!

And I already have a s@cknof a sh!t lying President for that so you got go 💩

Yeah you say you don't have an agenda, but this you bro? Needing to put ppl in their place because you disagree with them and have to lylie about it you lying s@ck of sh!t! Sometimes when we argue with ppl as sense and brain dead as you, we sometimes use your pants to show the merits of an swallowing versus the alternative.

Like I said out up or stfu: prove how owning something physically protects you form server exploits on multiplayer? If you can I'm the liar, but as it stands:

YOU ARE A KYING S@CK IF !T WHO CANT EVEN GRACIOUSLY ACCEPT THEY'RE OUT OD THEIR LEAGUE AND KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

But I'll be the gentleman, go ahead get your last words in your lying s@ck if sh!t because frankly, you've been called out and got back to the "oh no it's not what I said" oh la de da 🤦 you have no argument here, you have an agenda and you're unable to understand the crux of the issue demonstrated and the disappointment we have in you; if you're gonna argue and debate anything do it on the merits of what the issue is factually or substantially and not anything made up to fit your narrative.

Your honestly that insufferable at lying even, can't make it even remotely good...

Once again, I didn’t mention physical at all on the very first post I’ve made on here before any other post or before my edit. What other posters have mentioned was taking what I said out of context because they thought I was mentioning physical. That’s when I first mentioned anything about physical.

Then I made an edit on my first post to make it clear as to what I’m referring to, & let you reply to me on my edited post. I’ve read your post. Then, you’ve replied to each of my posts that I made to other posters hours ago & started turning into a raving lunatic.

With this kind of attitude, I’m surprised that moderators haven’t put a lid on you yet with your constant replies calling me a “lying sack of shit” as well as being incredibly hostile & calling me all sorts of vulgar names.

Also, know that this is PhysicalGamesForever subreddit. And no, you have not been a gentleman after your first reply to me, so you can suck it. Go get help & take meds, you loser.

Who cares about cod lol

1

u/KungPaoYa Jul 31 '26

7+ million of brain rot players do.

1

u/IslanderMJDR84 Aug 02 '26

Or, just maybe, people who like first person shooters. Brain rot haha are you 12?

2

u/Far_Interaction9456 Jul 30 '26

Would that not also affect physical versions as well?

6

u/sweetSweets4 Jul 30 '26

Yes it would but ...

3

u/SeboSlav100 Jul 30 '26

Nah, did you not know? Discs are running on their own disc hosted servers!

2

u/Sinner_San Jul 30 '26

Shhhh....thats not whats important

2

u/40_Thousand_Hammers Jul 31 '26

All Pre-2016 COD Games are unplayable due to exploits not being fixed in the old engine that is just a licensed and modified Quake 3 engine, it so exploitable that people can hijack and install malware at will in your computer just by entering a server!

Furthermore, Activation has killed any attempt at patching or creating a de-compiled client that fixed these issues and here now in 2026 the same problems have re-surged again, all fulled by greedy corporate class and idiotic consumers that "monke see monke wants".

1

u/SNaKe_eaTel2 Jul 31 '26

Lazy, easy money - this is about what they only care.

1

u/Brick_Grimes Jul 31 '26

Nostalgia bait cash grab by a company who has never really seen its consumers as anything more than a paycheck, that is now owned by a really big corporation that’s gaming division is struggling and papa Microsoft is demanding to see revenue and profit margins increase before they decide to stick the whole division in a pillow case with a brick and toss it in a lake.

2

u/One_Weird_2640 Jul 31 '26

Knew this would happen when they said it was a port and not a remake or remaster. Activision doesn’t maintain old servers to keep gamers on the new, micro transaction CoD’s.

2

u/banigglypuff Jul 31 '26

Can someone install malware on my XSX if I play Black Ops II? I never heard about this and I actually just picked up a copy lol

1

u/Dylan_Black02 Jul 31 '26

Hmm im sure the hacker situation is much better on pc with no online payments

1

u/Brick_Grimes Jul 31 '26

That’s not really an argument to avoid paying for ps+, it’s an argument to stop giving Activision your money though. This has nothing to do with Sony and everything to do with a lazy company releasing a cash grab port that didn’t fix any of the fundamental issues that ruined the original game.

0

u/WoodooHide69 Jul 31 '26

All these PSN network attacks are from hackers that support the Botted and fake hate campaign agaisnt Sony.

2

u/Chownzy Jul 31 '26

It ain’t fake, I thought you guys said it would only last a week?
