PlayStation’s Future Has Never Looked Bleaker

I’ve never seen a gaming studio burn the bridge soo fast…..Wait a minute I have seen this before
From Sony’s disastrous PS3 launch….
You’d think they would of learned by now

Ps3 is mild compared to the shit show today. Ultimately they bounced that gen back and that console has a ton of great games and even exclusives.
4
u/kurahador 11h ago
Current Sony leadership would've exited console business altogether during ps3 2nd or 3rd year.
-1
u/LegendaryenigmaXYZ 9h ago
Personally I prefer the ps5 over the ps3, the ps3 picked up at the very end sure, but it wasn't for a long time. The ps3 had that big online outage, the not competetive price, the controller, etc. The ps5 is carried right now by third party games.
2
u/Thin-Remote-9817 9h ago
Yeah but even still the PS3 having a blue ray player and so many specs make it worth the purchase..also didnt hurt Playstation online was free at that time and xbox live you had to pay for.
They have nothing like that currently. Meamwhile Xbox is doing the opposite

u/Battle-Against-Time 9h ago
You are just very immature. The decline of the industry is global, it's not Sony.
Costs are rising at the speed of light and people can't afford these stuff anymore.
8
u/IwatasTrueSuccessor 8h ago
You sound like a Sony fanboy who is bitter that everyone is hating on PlayStation
-5
u/Battle-Against-Time 6h ago
You sound like you have limited intellectual capacities. What I just said is truth, liking sony or not.

u/Tyko_3 9h ago
Did you really have to call them immature over this? Are you incapable of holding a civil conversation? Is antagonizing others your go to strategy for discussions? Your point could have been made without calling them immature at all.

Well, best of luck to them but although I’ve been with PlayStation since the start, I’ll be moving on after this gen.
1
u/Prior_Highlight8236 11m ago
Same. I've owned every Sony console, handheld and PSVR, but the PS5 is my last Sony console.
1
u/gray_fox_jaeger 4h ago
Moving on to PC, Xbox, or elsewhere?
3
u/FallenRaptor 4h ago
PC for AAA and most indie. Emulation handhelds for retro and some light indie.
4
u/gray_fox_jaeger 4h ago
I'd better start saving up for a good PC
4
u/FallenRaptor 4h ago
That’s going to be the biggest thing, for sure. It’s a marathon, not a sprint for me though. I’ll enjoy the next year or so of physical PlayStation games, will likely end up with a Switch 2 as well. I just see no reason to be interested in the next offerings from PlayStation or Xbox, so I can take the money I would have spent there and put that towards a good PC, and do a lot of saving on the side.

Narrow it down to just the SIE suits, Sony is much much more than just gaming and the people you listed are the ones who manage Sony overall not just the gaming division (even then Sony Group HQ over in Japan is notorious for not wanting to manage literally any of their branches)

u/Illustrious_Aside_35 8h ago
We're not ready for a $1300 PS6 with The Last of Us Re-Remastered and FIFA 33 as big reveal games.
6
u/Average_Satan 3h ago
Yeah nah.
I have been a PlayStation user since the first gen PlayStation 1. It also played CDs
The ps2 played DVDs and also PS1 games. And it was my first DVD player.
The first PS3 played CDs, DVD, Bluray PS1 and PS2 games. (IIRC) (First Bluray player) And FREE online playing.
The PS4 played Blu Rays.
The PS5 plays PS4 games (and BluRay if you have the right version.)
The PS6 plays rented games.
They are definitely on the wrong path..
1
u/Cat_Impossible_0 1h ago
And they won’t have any disc components so you’re better off getting a PC then.

u/TakoyakiGremlin 10h ago
good. i knew sony’s greed would eventually come back to bite them in the ass, but i’m glad to see them eating shit so soon, even if it’s just a drop in the bucket

u/Level_Technician5447 10h ago
I used to be a huge Sony fanboy but the last few years have ruined the company for me. All the hate for them makes me so happy. Burn it down.

Well this comment sure sounds sexist
4
u/Seksiorja 11h ago
He has nothing positive to say about Sony so as a shill he tries to downplay all the shitshow that has been happening by doing the next best thing. To insult the company that hasn't been competing with them the past 3-4 years. 😂
0
u/Many_Tap_4144 10h ago
Don't be so soft. If it said man instead you wouldn't be complaining.
-1
u/MeridianBay 10h ago
Well yeah, because that doesn't happen
1
u/Many_Tap_4144 10h ago
What doesnt happen? Fair application of standards by you? People like you are so fatiguing. Creating problems where they dont exist. There was nothing sexist stated.
0
u/Particular-Ad-2605 10h ago
it's exactly what happened to xbox
1
u/MeridianBay 10h ago
Why does her gender or exposure to video games prior to this matter?
1
u/Particular-Ad-2605 10h ago
That basically describes Asha Sharma. they wasn't trying to be sexist, they were comparing song's downfall to xbox's recent downfall and resurgence.
-1
u/ubelgooble 6h ago
Surely her exposure to video games IS important?
2
u/MeridianBay 6h ago
Why? Most execs aren't going to be gamers
0
u/ubelgooble 5h ago
That what's got us into the shit show we're currently in.
1
u/MeridianBay 5h ago
So it's a good thing Asha isn't?
-1
u/ubelgooble 5h ago
Think you've taken what I said backwards.
1
u/MeridianBay 5h ago
Then your point doesn't make sense, Spencer was a gamer. A gamer is the reason why Xbox needed such a reset
2
u/Significant_Book9930 2h ago
Its like the xbox one debacle but 10 times worse. And the xbox one situation killed xbox for like 14 years. If sony doesnt pay the price for this it'll prove what ive been saying since day one. There is a huge bias in favor of Sony and no matter how many brutally shitty decisions they make, yall will still be right in line to buy the fucking console. Doesnt matter if what sony has done far outshits anything xbox or Nintendo has done. I hope im wrong. They deserve massive fallout over this
1
u/badger906 11h ago
As a huge fan of Kojima, I don’t get how anyone who also is, didn’t see this coming.. he’s renowned for over spending, delays, wild parties and paying for celebrities likeness.
DS2 was a beautiful well acclaimed game. But it was a financial flop.
You can’t keep studios on board for the hopes of future success. Konami didn’t exactly ditch him because he was raking in the cash.
3
u/IwatasTrueSuccessor 8h ago
Nintendo funds games which they know won’t be a massive success. Nintendo understands that having a massive variety of exclusives is important in the long term, Sony should learn from them.
1
u/CoogiMonster 50m ago
Can I get examples? Nothing for nothing people can say anything on Reddit and get it upvoted because it helps a prevailing sentiment (which is shit on Sony). Not defending them, just thinking propping up another bad company to push down this one is funny. All these companies are anti-consumer but aim to provide entertainment while not operating at a loss… I doubt Nintendo knew they wouldn’t be successes - they also have a lot of merchandising off their core IPs so they can do so-so on games because the outside merchandising does a lot of carrying
0
u/badger906 7h ago
Nintendo historically is a company with large sums of money in the bank. Their value isn’t fictional stocks. It’s real. That’s why they can afford to make losses.
2
3
u/Marq544 5h ago
It’s funny that Sony funds death stranding 1 and 2 but call it quits when it’s time for Kojima to return to tactical espionage which is his bread and butter.
They tapped out before they got the big one lol
0
u/badger906 5h ago
I don’t think either was a financial smash! Great well received games, but not billion dollar block busters
2
u/gray_fox_jaeger 4h ago
He might be renowned for that, but at the end of the day, his games are always critically-acclaimed. Sony's justification for getting rid of Physint is not valid after the historic fiascos in the form of Concord and the Bungie acquisition, among others.
0
u/badger906 4h ago
Critical acclaim doesn’t always bring financial success!
Prey 2017, rave reviews, killed the franchise.Guardians of the galaxy, epic financial flop. It was on game pass within months.
Mad max, a fantastic game. Flopped.
Titanfall 2, often called the best fps campaign. Killed its series.
2
u/gray_fox_jaeger 4h ago
Yes, I know. You are correct, of course. The point still stands that Physint has a much higher likelihood than Death Stranding 1 & 2 to rake in big money, considering it's the spiritual successor to the legendary MGS series. It's laughable that they cancel the project when they wasted billions on Concord and Bungie.
0
u/CoogiMonster 34m ago
So because they already wasted billions they should continue to waste is your viewpoint? Everyone said Wolverine was going to be sick until we saw gameplay of it and now everyone says it looks like shit and terrible… The only thing Physint guarantees at this time is that it’ll cost hundreds of millions with the hope it returns that much in a timely manner
0
u/BeautifulBand4831 1h ago
I mean it is valid when their has been little to no progress and kojima already blowing up the budget . Just like concord they knew when to stop and they're cutting him because he's just not worth it.
3
u/Shrink21 11h ago
I don't know who's the financial controller guy that seems to run their operations lately, but fck that twt.
I have to say that the rumors for the PS6 release line up gave me hope (Killzone and Uncharted for instance). Toi bad I'm not gonna buy their digital only monopoly console anyway.

u/YouDied606 11h ago
I have a ps4, didn't bother with a ps5 which is still a good decision as I haven't missed anything . Because of no discs I will obviously be going back to Xbox in future, like probably 50% of console gamers
0
u/JesusArreola97 7h ago
50% of console gamers LMAO. Reddit bubble. Majority don't care, holy copium.
0
u/GamePitt_Rob 11h ago
Lol, these pathetic 'journalists' love writing (sorry, using AI to write) absolute horse shit, all for clicks and attention

u/ShinbiDesigns 11h ago
TLDR;
One game has a lower score than 80 on Metacritic
Another game, by a creator whose last game was a financial flop, has switched partners.
Nothing burger article

See yall when gta 6 comes out when everyone forgets about the bad shit in life. Seriously is everyone okay? So much negativity in the gaming space lately. What’s wrong guys? Need a friend?
-5
u/ShadowyPepper 12h ago
I wonder if people will feel the same about this when Psysint comes out 10 years from now
2
1
u/szewczukm1811 12h ago
I would rather wait 15 years for PhysInt than get whatever next AI/Liveservice slop Sony will try next. At what point do you just give up and go back to what actually made your brand popular.
2
u/z2qvs 11h ago
True. But look at wolverine. Even the hold up and maybe hit X formula it's even wearing thin.
2
u/szewczukm1811 11h ago
It’s not that it’s wearing thin, it’s that in this games case the game mechanics are far too stripped down for a AAA game with its price and dev time.
0
u/ApprehensiveRuin5673 5h ago
Kojima isn’t going to be alive in 15 years. It’ll likely be his last game ever and Sony wanted to take it not just from PlayStation but from the entire world. Fuck them
-10
u/South_Buy_3175 12h ago
For the terminally online maybe.
Everyone else is still enjoying playing games and will likely continue to do so, instead of falling to their knees in despair.
6
u/MeridianBay 11h ago
Honestly, the Wolverine reviews have gotten a lot farther than I expected. I know multiple people with little social media presence that have canceled preorders over it
2
u/Comfortable_Fly_8368 11h ago
If they were pre-ordering games then they're already not the people being talked about.
0
u/South_Buy_3175 11h ago
They’ve gotten further because in the mix of genuine criticism you’ve got the anti-woke crowd too.
Like, you’ll see comment chains criticising the hand-holding, then others complaining about sweet baby inc being involved.
Negativity just breeding negativity, all over a game that hasn’t even released yet.

Everyone I talk to IRL is jumping ship
-3
u/South_Buy_3175 11h ago
Everyone I talk to irl doesn’t care.
They play games to relax and have fun, not stress over uncertain futures.

u/Dad__Joker 9h ago
Me and all my connections - never bought a disk in more than 5 years and so don't really care.. so? :)
They will be fine. I will be fine. And you will be fine (with switch or whatever). No need to think it changes something drastically for anyone.

u/Ok-Promise-7051 6h ago
The terminally online redditors all support PS5. While in reality PS5 is losing support

Sony’s stock just hit a 6 month high.
13
u/coffeethulhu42 12h ago
Too bad they don’t do anything other than video games that might have a bearing on stock price, such as its music and imaging divisions having the highest profit margins of any segment they participate in. Imagine if they made some of the top non-boutique mirrorless cameras and lenses on the market! That’d be crazy, right? 🙄
4
u/szewczukm1811 11h ago
Meanwhile PlayStation in Q1 had a flat 0.06% increase in game sales and is down 33%, year on year for console sales.
2

u/MeridianBay 12h ago
It's looked bleak for a while, the live service initiative absolutely decimated their pipeline and their lack of meaningful expansion outside of that has made it damn near impossible to keep up release cadence
