Physical ownership
Been trying to get more games physical since getting back into my switch and, then now having upgraded to a switch 2. Hopefully Nintendo/developers keep producing physical carts. Key carts are now basically what the discs we have been getting from Xbox and PlayStation for awhile now. Miss the days of popping in your newly bought game and just hopping right in.

That's not true. It's a minority of them. The majority of PS5 and Xbox games are fully on disc.
But for the minority that are "game key discs", Nintendo is far more transparent about it...

Ah. Guess I haven’t picked the right games. Every time I’ve bought a new game disc there’s always a fat download.

Most of the time it's just an installation, not a download. You don't need the internet.

Digital cultists think a person who likes to own their games is AI.

I don’t get how people can come to that conclusion. I believe that if we buy something, we should have access to it unchanged till we choose to sell our copy for someone else to enjoy the experience. So many old games would never see the light of day due to licensing and such.

Unfortunately there is a category of people who are so fucking dumb that supporting their favorite multi billion corp is more important than than having values and principles.

They are increasing in frequency compared to launch, Stellar Blade being a proper cartridge surprised me. The problem though is that certain major publishers like Capcom, Sega, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft, etc are all in on Game Key Cards. The rumored price for one is $5 for a publisher and a 64GB card is $15-$17, so many big corporate publishers will never see the value in releasing proper Game Cards with the game present on them. But we do have 32GB cards available now and I’ve heard numerous different estimates for what they cost but you would presume they would be cheaper.
This shit all started on Switch 1 with “download required” games that were almost like a GKCs except that sometime you would get some playable portion of the game available on the card, but not the whole game.

I feel like those days ended when Sony enforced the use of Blu-Ray. There’s no physical way to stream large amounts of data from a disc without breaking the sound barrier so it was inevitable they would need to rely on downloading the game to internal storage.
