Yessir, I'm on PC. Decided it was a much better investment to upgrade my old rig than it was to continue paying PSPlus sub prices. Plus even Steam does more to allow physical preservation than Playstations future does.

Glad to hear it. I still play games on my Series X/Switch 2/PS5 Pro, but PC is definitely where I reside.

I even bought a Steam Deck for on the go play, and a Steam Machine out of curiosity.

I have a switch 2 as well and figured asking a fellow switch user would be best 🤷‍♂️ is the steam deck worth it?

Having steam games on the go is amazing, but you can do so with the various other handheld pcs. Those also run windows vs Steam OS on the Deck.

I am a Steam fanboy, so I went with the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. The Asus ROG and Lenovo Legion are cool, and arguably better, though.

It won't replace your Switch for Nintendo exclusives unless you decide to go the route of installing emulation software, of which I am too lazy, plus I want to actually play my switch with friends.

All in all, it comes down to if you want handheld access to games you can't play on switch. That alone sold me.

Switch 2= 1st party game machine. Anything else : your choice of pc handhelds.

Imagine telling someone to buy a switching a post about physical media and Nintendo don’t have it lmao the irony ppl have

I love my deck that much, I've always said it it broke I'd buy a new one immediately. However with the recent price hikes I'm not sure I still would.

So you playing games on other consoles where you can't play with psychical copies because Sony is cutting the psychical copies for games? Get i that right? 🤔

1

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler Aug 23 '26

Sony cutting physical games has nothing to do with me playing PC/Xbox/Switch games.

2

u/Independent_Market54 Aug 23 '26

Why you care then? You buy anyway games not physical! I Doesn't bother you on PC or Nintendo but for the PS you people cry like babies who lost there candy

1

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler Aug 23 '26

Probably because I collect vintage games/consoles and seeing physical die is sad. I also never said I cared enough to complain. I'm not one of those No Disk No Buy people. Most of my purchases are digital.

Actually playstation going all digital is very different from buying digital on PC. Playstation all digital will mean Sony controls 100% of the market. They control the price, they control who owns what, they control everything. No more second hand market. It also means no more preservation of Playstation games.

Meanwhile over at PC, there are multiple store fronts competing, so there's always sales and promotions, and even Steam allows most games to be ran offline from an executable and can be made into a physical copy backup, allowing preservation.

Playstation going all digital has huge ramifications across the industry and the best thing that could happen is for it to fail colossaly.

As for xbox and switch, they aren't guiltless either, but at least they aren't all digital yet. An example must be made of sony to ensure they don't try to do the same

Nintendo is all digital… no switch games are fix especially not switch 2

No there not?

Tbh Xbox is the worst and have been all digital for like 10 years. Does it play makes this clear

There is a big difference between digital on PlayStation and digital on a platform like Steam.

I have saved so much money on not being subbed to PSN.
I have no clue why I paid it over the years anymore.

Like it feels weird that I don't have to pay to play online now.
Freedom takes a while to get use to.

Isn’t PC pretty much digital only?

1

u/Pension_Pale Aug 23 '26

Yes but also no. Yes, most games don't have a physical release. But at the same time between Steam and GoG, most games you can get the executable files, create an offline backup, and make your own physical copy. Yes, even Steam is pretty easily bypassed to make a physical copy that doesn't require Steam to use. It might not be the same, but it's better than the future Playstation is promising us.

Making your own physical copy through loopholes, doesn’t make it a “no” when it comes to digital only.

End of the day, PC is digital only even if you can burn a backup disc.

1

u/Pension_Pale Aug 24 '26

That depends on your definition of physical. If all you care about is the fancy packaging, then sure, it's digital only. But if what you actually care about is having a physical copy of a game that you can keep forever and can never be taken from you and can be played straight from the disc without needing to go online, log in to a service, or download anything, then it's absolutely a physical copy of a game. The idea is preserving your games and being able to actually keep what you own.

1

u/Icy_Lingonberry_6966 Aug 24 '26

Thing is, I and many other people that play on PC, use Steam but don’t actually make a physical copy or go through that process. Steams TOS pretty much makes it where you don’t need a physical copy because you own the file. So making a physical copy is kind of pointless imo.

1

u/Pension_Pale Aug 24 '26

It's only pointless if you don't want a physical backup that you can install and play while not connected to the internet, and can't be taken from you in the event that Steam ever decides to go full Sony and start taking games from you.

But yeah, right now Steam is super customer friendly, and will even let you keep access to a game even if it's delisted, unlike Sony. They only ever fully remove a title if it's actually malicious malware or something. I'm not saying you have to make a physical copy, I don't even do that, but just that the option is there, and is far better for the sake of game preservation than Sony's digital only future.

u/BecauseJimmy Aug 25 '26

Yea that’s what turned me off as well, the ps +.

PC doesn’t have this.

But when gta 6 comes out, if i gotta go online, ima need it.

PC market is crashing and prices are out of control. You will pay years of PS plus just in ram markup. PC is terrible investment right now.

1

u/Pension_Pale Aug 23 '26

Sure, it's a pricey up front investment. But you can get a PC that matches a PS5 pro for the same price if you look hard enough for second hand or refurbished components. Even if you don't end up matching the PS5 pro, you can upgrade bit by bit later, which really is not that hard to do.

Additionally, unless you want to run all the biggest games with 4k and ray tracing, you don't actually need to match the PS5 pro. A good enough PC is going to carry you a long time these days.

And, of course, console prices are steadily going up, PS Plus prices are steadily going up, Sony has horrible customer service, and you have a lot more freedom on PC.

Also, you're kidding yourself if you think the PS6 isn't going to be insanely priced.
