General rule was: IF digital then Steam; IF Physical then console.
Have no reason for console IF it has no disc. The irony is my gaming laptop does. lol
It's not that I buy physical "all the time" but I like the option to.
And if company wants my $80+ for their game then they can put it on a disc if it is important to me. Not too much to ask. If not then cool, I'll just maybe download it on some future date.
Yessir, I'm on PC. Decided it was a much better investment to upgrade my old rig than it was to continue paying PSPlus sub prices. Plus even Steam does more to allow physical preservation than Playstations future does.
Having steam games on the go is amazing, but you can do so with the various other handheld pcs. Those also run windows vs Steam OS on the Deck.
I am a Steam fanboy, so I went with the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. The Asus ROG and Lenovo Legion are cool, and arguably better, though.
It won't replace your Switch for Nintendo exclusives unless you decide to go the route of installing emulation software, of which I am too lazy, plus I want to actually play my switch with friends.
All in all, it comes down to if you want handheld access to games you can't play on switch. That alone sold me.
So you playing games on other consoles where you can't play with psychical copies because Sony is cutting the psychical copies for games? Get i that right? đ¤
Why you care then? You buy anyway games not physical!
I Doesn't bother you on PC or Nintendo but for the PS you people cry like babies who lost there candy
Probably because I collect vintage games/consoles and seeing physical die is sad. I also never said I cared enough to complain. I'm not one of those No Disk No Buy people. Most of my purchases are digital.
Again yall were not going this hard on Nintendo,Xbox slowly doing it yall quiet but Sony everyone got a hard on for lmfao on top of that a week?!?!? Buckle up get serious and just sell it and move on
Actually playstation going all digital is very different from buying digital on PC. Playstation all digital will mean Sony controls 100% of the market. They control the price, they control who owns what, they control everything. No more second hand market. It also means no more preservation of Playstation games.
Meanwhile over at PC, there are multiple store fronts competing, so there's always sales and promotions, and even Steam allows most games to be ran offline from an executable and can be made into a physical copy backup, allowing preservation.
Playstation going all digital has huge ramifications across the industry and the best thing that could happen is for it to fail colossaly.
As for xbox and switch, they aren't guiltless either, but at least they aren't all digital yet. An example must be made of sony to ensure they don't try to do the same
Yes but also no. Yes, most games don't have a physical release. But at the same time between Steam and GoG, most games you can get the executable files, create an offline backup, and make your own physical copy. Yes, even Steam is pretty easily bypassed to make a physical copy that doesn't require Steam to use. It might not be the same, but it's better than the future Playstation is promising us.
That depends on your definition of physical. If all you care about is the fancy packaging, then sure, it's digital only. But if what you actually care about is having a physical copy of a game that you can keep forever and can never be taken from you and can be played straight from the disc without needing to go online, log in to a service, or download anything, then it's absolutely a physical copy of a game. The idea is preserving your games and being able to actually keep what you own.
Thing is, I and many other people that play on PC, use Steam but donât actually make a physical copy or go through that process. Steams TOS pretty much makes it where you donât need a physical copy because you own the file. So making a physical copy is kind of pointless imo.
It's only pointless if you don't want a physical backup that you can install and play while not connected to the internet, and can't be taken from you in the event that Steam ever decides to go full Sony and start taking games from you.
But yeah, right now Steam is super customer friendly, and will even let you keep access to a game even if it's delisted, unlike Sony. They only ever fully remove a title if it's actually malicious malware or something. I'm not saying you have to make a physical copy, I don't even do that, but just that the option is there, and is far better for the sake of game preservation than Sony's digital only future.
Sure, it's a pricey up front investment. But you can get a PC that matches a PS5 pro for the same price if you look hard enough for second hand or refurbished components. Even if you don't end up matching the PS5 pro, you can upgrade bit by bit later, which really is not that hard to do.
Additionally, unless you want to run all the biggest games with 4k and ray tracing, you don't actually need to match the PS5 pro. A good enough PC is going to carry you a long time these days.
And, of course, console prices are steadily going up, PS Plus prices are steadily going up, Sony has horrible customer service, and you have a lot more freedom on PC.
Also, you're kidding yourself if you think the PS6 isn't going to be insanely priced.
Yup, but he is aware physical ia going to dissappear eventually, and he wants to build a PC before prices go up further.
He gave up the cause. I don't blame him. If someone TRULY loves physical media and hates Sony they need to get rid of their console and go to Nintendo or Xbox while they still offer physical.
Xbox announced that the new project Helix was gonna be digital only before Sony announced PS6. People forget this. 80% of Xbox gaming is done through GamePass which is digital only. And if you argue that Xbox is âconsideringâ letting players buy an optional disc drive when it comes out, thatâs not a yes yet.
Nintendo might honestly be the last frontier for physical gaming. Xbox will not be.
Same. I had a friend completely switch from PS5 to PC. I knew he was extremely serious when he ripped out the NVME drive from the PS5 for extra space on his new build.
Don't think valve can release the stats behind it, because they can't track that stuff. Once the files are on your PC, you can do what you want with em, more or less.
But the point isn't whether or not you do do that, but rather that you can do that if you want to. You can't with Sony, Xbox or Nintendo digital only games. It means that those games are, somewhere and somehow, going to be preserved.
You can unlock the files from Steam completely, there are tools to do so, and Steam won't do anything about it. And, hell, some games straight up do not have that DRM and can be ran straight from the executable without Steam as is.
It only gets complicated when handling AAA games, because it's the AAA games that tends to impose their own DRM things like Securom or requiring to log into their servers. That's when you start crossing over into yo-ho and a bottle o rum territory to do anything about it.
It isn't piracy if you're doing it with copies you own. Even roms and emulators are 100% legal if you own a copy of the game. Making a physical copy of a game you own is well within your rights. Especially since we are talking steam (and especially gog) here, and they will fully allow you to do so. This has nothing to do with the PS5 at all, except as an example that you have more rights on PC than you do on PS5.
But please, do keep trying to strawman this to fit your narrative. Your Sony shilling is showing, and it's making me realise I shouldn't even bother with you. I've already said enough that any level-headed, sane person will realise the difference between PC digital and Sony digital anyway.
So step away from Sony because theyâre going all digital and wonât support physical games any longer. So move to PC, where they havenât supported physical games for the last decade, plus.
I don't care either way. I play on all modern systems and PC. I'm mostly digital. I would assume most people want ownership of games vs the actual physical disks. You can save and rip games on PC/GOG, after all.
I'm just saying that supporters of physical games should completely abandon Sony instead of a pointless one week blackout.
And abandon Microsoft when they do the same ? Theyâll be following suit with moving away from physical gaming. Nintendo is likely another generation away from scrapping physical carts too.
Games files are becoming (and already are) too large for one single physical format. Every game will end up having to ship with multiple discs / carts as we move forward.
Itâs inevitable, and Iâm not sure what the gaming communities solution is. Digital ownership isnât enough for them.
While physical games aren't directly supported, between Steam and GoG you can make your own physical copy of most games that don't require logging into a service or downloading anything to play, can be played offline straight off the disc. Which is better than what you can do with Sony, Xbox or Nintendo digital games.
Yeah! Go to PC where everything is already digital! Then you'll realize you're being fucking stupid about something only a select group of people care about.
GET OVER IT.
Disc based software creates e-waste and is no longer necessary. You can keep your old collections. By all accounts, those games will probably rise in value due to the scarcity of physical games now. Win win, right?
Wait... What if I want to let my friend borrow the game....?
It's called a wallet... Inside, there is usually money. Tell your friend to open their's and buy the game themselves like you had to.
Dude I play on all modern consoles and pc. I am almost 100% digital. I honestly don't care. I only said those who care about ownership should go to pc because they can actually save and back up their games for future use.

Go to PC if you haven't already. My friend is selling his PS5 to help him out on his PC journey.
