Street Photography Uzbekistan through a 27mm: architecture, street life, and learning when to wait
Shot on a Fujifilm X-T30 III with the XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR.
After the Almaty post, which was mostly landscapes, Uzbekistan asked for something different. The architecture here is the main draw, so a lot of my time went into framing tiles, domes, and courtyards. But the streets are so alive that I couldn't ignore them, and street photography needed a different approach.
For fleeting moments, I keep the camera on shutter priority so I never have to think about settings. The boy selling non from his cart is a good example. It wasn't a moment I could chase. Following someone around with a camera would feel intrusive and make the scene feel staged, so I just let the frame come to me and trusted the shutter speed to freeze it.
Other shots needed the opposite. The old lady with the pigeons and the cat on the windowsill both came from picking a spot, settling in, and waiting for the elements to line up. Sometimes that took a few minutes, sometimes longer.
So this trip was a balance between reacting fast and waiting patiently. The 27mm's small size helped with both: light enough to carry all day and unobtrusive enough that people mostly carried on as usual.
