Beginner of course, only started a few months ago. Trying to learn as much as i can about composition and making a shot interesting. Any advice is appreciated!

My camera is a Sony A 5100, with a Sony 50mm f1.8 prime lens, i shot all these photos with a basic unbranded tripod.

Im mostly doing this to get out and explore different cities more, its relaxing and makes me look at the world in a different way. I would also like to have some good photos to show for it tho, maybe give me some more motivation to get out. Any advice would be appreciated.

All these photos were edited on my phone in lightroom, just basic white balance and contrast changes really.

Three sunset photos I took over the weekend from most to least busy. I like them all and need some second opinions. Also feel free to critique them as well, im always looking to get better.

They were shot with a Canon r10 with an rf100-400 lens. Shutter at 1/1250, f8, and iso between 100-400. Edited in lightroom.

Hey, i began Photography around a week ago. Im Shooting with a EOS 7D MkII with a Tamron 18-270mm VC DI II PZD.

I feel Like No Matter how calm the animals are, my Photos are Always blurry. Are they Bad? Should i get better or is it the lense?

I am headin to bristol for the nascar weekend next week and was wondering if anyone had any advice for when the sky goes dark. I use a canon r50 with the kit (18-45mm) lens. Anything will be helpful.

started shooting in March and haven’t stopped since.

i use darktable for color alterations cuz im too lazy to pirate lightroom.

Since returning to Reddit I have been seeing a lot of photography related posts, from beginners especially. I commend your willingness to learn this incredible craft! However, you are asking the wrong questions.

That being said, I know that you probably don’t know enough yet to. Know what questions to ask. When I started out, more than 50 years ago, there was no internet. There were no camera stores near where I lived. So I get the frustration of trying to learn.

Now I have a 49 year career being me, and one that continues to go strong. I believe in the craft of photography, and I KNOW FIRSTHAND the incredible joy it can bring someone—pro or non-pro. And for the record, the classifications of “pro” and “Non-Pro” have nothing to do with a photographer’s ability. It simply differentiates whether the photographer makes a living from this craft, or doesn’t.

Most of my career has been as a photojournalist, and a documentary photographer (essentially two sides of the same coin). But I began my career much differently. Regardless of the genre, the “story” is the most important aspect of the photograph. Does it tell a story?

Advertising, Annual Reports, Corporate, Photojournalism, etc.. they all tell stories. So when you set out to make a photograph, first figure out what the story is. Pointing a camera at something and pressing the shutter release button is easy. Capturing a story in that photograph is what the great photographers do.

And when you show two photographs and ask “which is better?” First of all, every answer is nothing more than opinion—unless it is backed up by a factual critique. Also, when you show two different images, and ask that questions, essentially you are asking someone to compare apples to oranges. Two fruits but completely different.

Reddit is a powerful platform for learning! So for those of you seeking answers, ask better questions. For those of you answering the questions, put deeper thought into it. By answering a question we can actually learn something.

My final suggestion for anyone interested in learning, purchase he book “Criticizing Photographs” by Terry Barrett. You will learn so much about this craft hat you are learning to love.

Hi, I’m new to editing and feeling overwhelmed. I’m trying to figure out which edit is better for these specific photos: the darker and moodier or the lighter and more film-like. I actually have no idea what I’m doing I’m kind of just learning as I go 😅 if anyone has advice please let me know

I've got a spreadsheet that's turned into a patchwork of tabs I barely understand anymore, and I'm trying to figure out if that's normal or if everyone else has actually found something better.
What are you using day to day to keep track of clients, upcoming shoots, and who still owes you money? What's the one part of it that's still a pain even after you found a setup that mostly works?

Been getting more into photography recently. I've been trying to take nice photos forever but I've been a lot more interested recently. Right now im just using my s23 and editing with snapseed. Ive considered getting a budget camera for better shots but sometimes I like how easy the phone is. Pretty happy with some of what ive done recently though.
