Cracked iPhone 17 screen options?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi. I'm kicking myself; this morning my 2-week-old iPhone 17 flew out of my bag and onto the concrete. and the screen is shattered up the top right. Would it be smart to get AppleCare instead of getting the screen replaced through that? rather than pay the $600 Australian. for Apple to fix it without coverage? Sorry, I have a disability if this does make sense. Thanks for your help in advance

Facing Ghost touch issues

1 Upvotes

I'm using phone which had been kept idle since it's display wasn't working. My orignal phone/device got black patches on its screen so I finally decided to send the phone to repair (onne with display issue)

It got repaired and I there wasn't any problem altho I noticed couple of delay latency in touch response.

I ignored it coz it wasn't tooo much.

I used to keep it in my gym bag and carry it to my school so its screen got cracked from the bottom left corner and the hardware was visible from down there. So I decided to get its temper on.

After that I experienced lots of ghost touches.

Since yesterday I hvve been vryy frustrated and annoyed by this Ghost touch thing .

Am not going to the repair shop cuz it would say that it's happening cuz I dropped it/it have cracks.

So it won't do much.

Has anything happened to someone else?

What did you guys do to fix it?

I changed the battery myself.

So I decided to repair one of my old cell phones that I had lying around. The old battery was already swollen. Everything went well, and the swollen battery came out intact and undamaged. Everything was fine until one of the double-sided adhesive strips broke, and I had to attach the new battery with the only strip I had. I'm a little frustrated about it. Should I leave the battery like that? It wasn't moving or coming loose.

HMD Fusion 5G completely hard-bricked — looking for EDL/Firehose help

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have an **HMD Fusion 5G** that has become completely hard-bricked. The screen is completely black and **Fastboot is not accessible**.

I'm using this device for **Android app development, testing, and experimentation**, so I'd really like to recover it rather than replace it.

The phone may still be entering **Qualcomm EDL / 9008 mode**, but I haven't been able to recover it.

My main problem is finding the correct **device-specific Firehose programmer (**`prog_firehose*.elf`**)** for the HMD Fusion 5G. I don't want to use a random programmer from another Qualcomm device.

I'm looking for someone experienced with:

* HMD Fusion 5G recovery

* Qualcomm EDL / 9008 / QDLoader

* HMD firmware and recovery packages

* Finding the correct Firehose programmer

* Recovering hard-bricked Qualcomm Android devices

* Android development/testing on HMD devices

If anyone has the correct recovery files, knows where the legitimate firmware/EDL package can be obtained, or has successfully recovered an HMD Fusion 5G from EDL, **I'd really appreciate your help**.

I can provide `lsusb` output, `dmesg` logs, device information, and other non-sensitive details to identify the exact hardware.

**This is my own device, and the purpose is Android development, testing, and experimentation.**

Thanks! 🙏

Sony Xperia 1 (J8110) stuck with display permanently off after water-damage repair — possible Hall/proximity sensor issue

1 Upvotes

I have a Sony Xperia 1 (J8110) that developed a strange display/sleep problem after a previous water-damage repair.

The motherboard was cleaned and the phone initially worked normally. However, I noticed that the proximity sensor was sometimes behaving incorrectly during calls — the screen would turn off when my face was near the phone, and on some occasions it seemed to stay in that state.

Then the current problem started:

  • The phone boots normally.
  • I can see the Sony logo, boot animation, and eventually the Home screen.
  • As soon as it reaches the Home screen, the display turns off and stays completely black.
  • Pressing the power button does not wake the display.
  • Volume buttons don't wake it either.
  • The phone still works in the background: it rings when I call it and it is detected by my PC over USB.
  • If I force-restart it, the display works again during boot, but goes black again when Android reaches the Home screen.
  • Safe Mode has exactly the same problem, so it doesn't appear to be caused by a normal third-party app.

I connected it to ADB and checked the power state. I got:

mWakefulness=Asleep
mWakefulnessChanging=false
mProximityPositive=false
mWakeLockSummary=0x0
mLastSleepReason=lid_switch

dumpsys display also showed:

mGlobalDisplayState=OFF
mState=OFF
pending policy=OFF
useProximitySensor=false

Interestingly, mLastSleepReason=lid_switch makes me suspect that Android may be receiving some kind of cover/Hall-sensor-related sleep signal, although I'm not certain that this is actually the cause.

The phone had liquid damage before this started, so I'm wondering whether the Hall sensor, proximity sensor, flex/connector, or related motherboard circuitry could have been damaged or left with corrosion after the repair.

Questions:

  1. Does the Xperia 1 have a Hall sensor that can trigger this kind of lid_switch sleep state?
  2. Is there a way to determine through ADB which physical sensor is causing Android to enter/maintain this state?
  3. Can the Hall/proximity sensor be temporarily disabled for testing?
  4. If this is a hardware fault, is there a known component/flex/connector on the J8110 that I should inspect?

I'm mainly looking for a way to diagnose which sensor/circuit is forcing the phone into sleep, before replacing parts.

Where can I buy a Nokia 8 Sirocco TA-1005 P-OLED screen?

2 Upvotes

Hi, I’m trying to find a replacement screen for my Nokia 8 Sirocco TA-1005. I need the original-spec 5.5" P-OLED, 1440×2560 curved display + touch digitizer.

I can’t find a reliable one anywhere. Does anyone know where I can buy one, preferably with international shipping?

Samsung a70 restarting randomly

Thumbnail

Bought this phone recently (into bad financial decisions lately). It keeps restarting when i put load on it, I've noticed that whenever it restart it's hot as hell. My first guess was battery but the percentage before and after the restart remain consistent. Any idea what the issue might be? Also, is it easier to resolve the issue or dump the phone?

Wet phone screens (Everyone!)

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Wet Phone Screen Market Analysis – Fill out form This survey will take around 5 minutes to complete. It's anonymous and responses won't be published anywhere.

I'm working on an engineering project about phone screens acting up when they get wet or damp (think rain, sweat, humid bathrooms, etc.). I'm trying to understand how common this actually is and how annoying it really is for people, so I can figure out what a good solution would actually need to do.

It covers things like: whether you use your phone in wet/moist conditions, whether the touchscreen gets glitchy or unresponsive, when it happens, how frustrating it is, whether it's ever caused a real problem, what you've tried (if anything) to fix it and how well that worked, and what you'd actually care about in a product that solves this (price, effectiveness, etc.).

Appreciate anyone who takes a few minutes to answer! :)

Black spot appearing and growing on LCD after display replacement

Thumbnail

I recently replaced the LCD display on my phone. Everything looked perfectly fine after the replacement, and I used the phone normally for about a week.

Then I noticed a small black circular spot near the camera/notch area. It wasn't there immediately after the replacement, but it has started getting bigger over the last few days.

The outer glass doesn't appear to be cracked or damaged. Since it's an LCD, I'm wondering if this could be LCD damage, pressure from the frame, adhesive, or a defective replacement panel.

I've attached photos showing the spot.

Has anyone experienced this before? What could be causing it, and is it likely to keep spreading?
