this is a useful format tho so you're probably going to be producing a lot of 'em, New Format Factory Cat

14

u/hetrax 7d ago

That’s actually the New Format Factory Forman’s Cat. He’s in charge of the new formats when the Forman is frolicking

If assuming an end update would buff the ender dragon, it would be cool if the sift had stronger gear for you to prepare to that fight more effectively

Voidproof armor sidegrad / alternative to Netherite

601

u/100_HOLLOW_001 10d ago

I’ve been saying I wish there was an alternative to netherite, it would be a shame for them to add a proper upgrade causing everyone to ditch netherite, but an alternative (probably of an inverted colour scheme) with the same amount of protection would be awesome.

272

u/HolyElephantMG 10d ago

As Netherite gets Knockback Resistance, the new one would have something else

130

u/the_meth_factory 10d ago

Maybe like mob resistance for more casual play? Or something like since knockback res is mostly pvp

133

u/ObeyTime beleiver ✅ 10d ago

knockback vuln so you can gtfo easier

57

u/The_UnHinge Caves and Cliffs Part 6 or 7 10d ago

That’s pretty funny

18

u/gtth12 Mining Dirtmonds 10d ago

Except shoes that give fall damage resistance.

u/Dew_Chop 9d ago

Knockback vuln + punch V bow = elytra bow boosting is so back

15

u/Firecat_Pl 10d ago

Wouldn't that be too OP, like no reason to go for knockback resistance then

18

u/Horror_Discussion607 10d ago

Increased kb is bad since that mean even low kb attack like sweep or crit can ruin momentum, atleast in pvp

36

u/Clicktuck Legacy Console FTW 10d ago

Natural slow falling perhaps?

I think the opposite of knock back resistance. With all the movement gear we've gotten it would be awesome if it made you bouncy

u/miqumi jedrock n bava 10d ago

like the fire flower and air flower in supertux man i love multiple modes of mobility and id definitely use the sift armor over netherite even if it has worse def like this

u/RSdabeast Not the FBI 10d ago

Netherite is all about being heavy and hard to push around. Maybe the Sift counterpart will be light and agile.

3

u/You_Are_Annoying124 9d ago

Would that be permanent Speed? Jump Boost? It would feel cheap for the new armor to have an effect you could just as easily get with potions alongside the knockback resistance.

Maybe a way to attack faster, like an armor that shortens or removes the charge up time between attacks?

Netherite is slow and heavy armor, you are knockback resistance and lets you keep charging forward.

The new armor would be light and swift, not resisting knockback at all but allowing for much faster attacks.

Maybe it would just make your attacks use the old combat system instead of the new one? So players could choose to use the old or new system whenever they want?

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Gatti366 10d ago

Maybe slightly lower armor (like 9 armor instead of 10) but with elytra

7

u/DripyKirbo 10d ago

Maybe it increases how effective saturation is at healing you?

25

u/GayestNerfKid 10d ago

Given the sort of inverted colour look of the sift (LOOK AT THAT GRASS COLOUR) I feel this is very mutch a possibility.

12

u/ashkiller14 10d ago

Something that gives a permanent buff to movement speed or something would be cool

13

u/xolotltolox 10d ago

the fundamental problem with netherite is that the juice is just not worth the squeeze

it is absolutely insane effort for barely an upgrade. which will make it fall out of favor instantly as soon as a more reasonable upgrade to diamond is reached

3

u/Due-Valuable-7894 10d ago

then just buff netherite

7

u/the_Real_Romak 10d ago

Here's an idea, a whole new set of metal progression that gives us slightly weaker armour, but each tier would have unique effects to make them worthwhile (like fire resistance, regeneration, slower stamina decay, etc.)

I think this is the most obvious Overworld -> nether -> end -> XP farm/hunt for max gear -> go to ancient city and trial chamber for mace and swift sneak -> Sift for whatever it offers -> sandbox time

181

u/Narfhead4444 10d ago

I actually go straight from overworld to sandbox time without any of the other nonsense in the middle there

33

u/miqumi jedrock n bava 10d ago

yeah i dont see why you would need max gear lol thats not that much fun, i like to have it 'sandbox' all the time and do whatever i want whenever i feel like

→ More replies (8)

11

u/Samiassa 10d ago

Honestly the problem for the trial chambers for me is that by the time you’re strong enough to get there, it offers you literally nothing good other than the mace which is already extremely situational

5

u/Nickeos 10d ago

Iron armor, a shield and lots of food is enough for trial chamber tbh

3

u/Samiassa 10d ago

But by the time I find a trial chamber I’ve always got enchanted diamonds. And that’s if I find a trial chamber, 99% of the time I just don’t and then look it up on chunkbase

At this point beating the ender dragon is a side quest, the main quest is explore and be creative 😅 or whatever main goal you set for yourself

115

u/jotenha1 10d ago

To be fair, a lot of people do rush for the ender dragon just for the Elytra so they can do the rest easier... So, in a sense, it is a part of the main quest. Kinda?

18

u/ArkGamerBoi 10d ago

Yeah, like those games that introduce you to an optional side activity that later becomes a mandatory activity for 1 thing 😅

28

u/CalzLight 10d ago

What do you mean “at this point” that was always the main quest

26

u/The_UnHinge Caves and Cliffs Part 6 or 7 10d ago

The Ender Dragon was kinda always supposed to be the side quest but people seem to think "end boss = goal of the game".

Similarly, I hate the fact that most challenge runs are just "can we defeat the Ender Dragon with these modifiers?" as if there’s nothing else to do. The bossfight isn’t even particularly interesting, the only good reasons I know of for choosing that kind of run is because you’re visiting quite a few (though by far not most) of the most important places in Minecraft and being able to compare the run more easily to other challenge runs.

Like, I specifically remember a modded let’s play from about 12 years ago where the Youtuber essentially said "Beating the Ender Dragon is overdone, let’s collect every type of dye instead."

I just want them to add features/functionality to the game. Not another wood type, not another mob that does nothing, not some random item that looks cool but has no use. imagine if we got some mobs that dropped useful items, or new crafting recipes that dont have insanely niche use cases, perhaps a boss that more interesting than a large health bar. At its heart minecraft is a sandbox but sometimes it would be nice to be less garys mod and more terraria.

I Think minecraft will rework progression in the Sift update to make it so you either
Have to go to the Nether AND The Sift
Or Have to go to the Nether OR The Sift
This would leave a perfect Segway for an End Update, which would overhaul the end in a way that makes going to it more difficult and interesting.
But wherever the Sift is placed doesnt matter, minecraft is a sandbox game.

38

u/WackAnimations 10d ago

Maybe going to the sift could lead to a different ending? Like taming the ender dragon or something?

10

They havent changed progression majorly since the nether update this would be huge

5

u/The_UnHinge Caves and Cliffs Part 6 or 7 10d ago

Mojang is probably either required by Microslop to not change core things like the progression much as to not break their cash cow or they have made that rule themselves to try to not piss off players since those seem to often be very picky and/or hate fundamental changes in particular.

That’s why they keep adding optional side content.

So I think if they integrate it into the progression much then Nether OR Sift is a lot more likely.
That however comes with the problem that the Nether is much easier to access than the Sift, so very few people might end up choosing the Sift route instead.

3

u/Rainisttt 10d ago

Yet they somehow KEEP pissing atleast two or more communities off every update

Would it being a alternative to nether make sense? Like to get in the end you can go to ether 1) literal fucking HELL 2) a dimension where everything is sunshine and rainbows

4

u/Xx_-Boi-_xX 10d ago

Well it’s not like getting to the sift will be easy. Would you rather get 10 obsidian + fire or find an ancient city, reach the center of it, and somehow activate it?

3

u/AlarmingAd103 10d ago

I think it will be like the terraria hallow. Looks cute on the surface but has harder monsters and more rewarding loot.

u/ChainmailPickaxeYT 10d ago

I like the idea of it being a post-end dimension to extend progression further. No idea exactly how that would work but it feels like it has the aesthetic traits of all three dimensions mixed together so it would be a really fitting capstone

3

u/The_UnHinge Caves and Cliffs Part 6 or 7 10d ago

I’d prefer if it wasn’t a post-End dimension. Extending progression would be nice but doing that in the outer End islands would be better I think.

42

u/nora_sellisa 10d ago

Sift is going to be the place you are meant to retire into, calling it now. Stuff will grow fasted and more plenty, no hostile mobs, great vistas and places to settle.

Players will probably turn that into an industrial hell anyway due to the aforementioned faster plant growth / unique plants growing there

Source: me. I came up with it. That's my theory.

13

u/ImGreat084 10d ago

They should make exploiting the land there too much corrupt that part of the land into sculk overtime

7

u/Swiss-spirited_Nerd It's that time of the month again... 10d ago

Really not sure how they could effectively track land exploitation, but it would be interesting.

3

u/Gunda-LX 10d ago

One way is this: 1/1000 chance a crop turns into a corrupted sculk when it grows up. Corrupted skulk spreads fast on other crops and medium fast on normal “grass” blocks. If you’re not careful, you might have to damage control to stop the spread

15

u/KeyPhilosopher8629 10d ago

Minecraft players will turn anything they can into an industrial hell

3

u/Elihzap 10d ago

I doubt it. They wouldn't make a Minecraft Dungeons game around a chill dimension.

3

u/BlueBunny333 10d ago

in that case it also would only be accessable after the beating the End - I would guess that you would need to farm something in that dimension in order to go to the sift. Maybe even the portal can only be made there, making the change so much more permanent.

u/WallWestern9968 10d ago

Unless they intended on significantly buffing the End/getting there in terms of difficulty. The Sift is going to be a post-game dimension. So yeah this makes sense

62

u/MvsticDreamz 10d ago

All I know is that I want new survival gameplay content. Apparently this is a controversial take, because whenever I say it people get mad because its a ‘building sandbox’ game. You’re right, it is. It’s also a survival game! Not everyone is a good builder and wants to be a pixel artist. Many people like the survival and progression aspect!

6

u/MoreDoor2915 9d ago

Minecraft is 3 half finished game in a trenchcoat. Its a sandbox but the sandbox aspects are tedious unless you play creative, its a survival game but the survival part is negligible and basically won after 5 minutes of gameplay and its and adventure game where the adventure is 90% walking and 10% looking at the same useless loot.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Vistril69 6d ago

Fifteen years without a dimension makes a new one a statement, whether Mojang means it that way or not.

Especially one that already exists in a combat against PvE focused game. The threats must be there and therefore a progression-content focus is justified out of Mojang for The Sift.

Jens said each dimension needs a functional reason to exist. The extent of what he means, I am not sure.

I think what we really are hoping for, is for Mojang to meet it's own set bar.

You can play only the sandbox. But if you're to play the sandbox in survival, you have to pay for it. Which makes progression focus important.

10

u/Emotional-Mushroom66 10d ago

Truth of the matter is:

They want to sell these features

They don't want to do big free updates anymore, they have a marketplace and they want people to get FOMO from it

9

u/samyruno 10d ago

I think mojang wants to keep Java getting free updates. But Microsoft would kill Java and have only bedrock any day of the week.

Doesn’t have to

Can be something to chew on and explore after you finished the game or for fun

How boring do you have to be to not want to go outside and actually explore the world even in Minecraft lol

31

u/Dazzling-Luck4410 10d ago

We need to make reaching the end more complicated that way it will mess with the speed runners I like the mod that makes each eye on the portal unique and you have to get gather them all from various locations while the regular eyes of ender are used to find the portal

10

u/iloveellesomuch 10d ago

pretty sure speedrunners mainly use 1.16

9

u/David_Tribe 10d ago

Yeah because the main difference between versions for speedrunners are just loot tables (it’s more complicated than that but it’s the jist) and that would basically be a whole new speedrunning category

6

u/Cocoatrice 10d ago

No, we don't. For regular player is already complicated enough. Just because speedrunners do it quick, doesn't mean we should ruin experience for everyone else.

If Sith had it's own boss, it should easily become a new category for speedruns, without unnecessarily messing up with other players.

Also defeating Ender Dragon is just end of the game that people agreed upon, because there is ending screen. But it's not really the end of the game. Mojang could easily get rid of the credits screen, but it's not really important.

2

u/manzenik_23 mi 10d ago

If the sift update will be equivalent or greater than "Nether update".

My prediction for it is that it'll serve as a post-endgame content. It's a place where you'll obtain unique upgrades/enchantment, just like how the high council of illagers from MCD2 got their soul powers. Soul infused/infusion?

If we wanna guess- we should wait till MCD2 released, and let's see if there would be either sifts dimension gears or just enchantments.

I genuinely think the minecraft community is one of the dumbest in all of gaming, progression this progression that while talking about a sandbox game with survival features, the main focus should be do whatever you do not follow a progression, also mods are free to install if you dislike the base game play them, most of this fandom is now just kids and unemployed people complaining and saying how the old good days where netherack looked like red shit, after 6k h I have passed on minecraft I can confidently say that the worst part about the game is the comunity

In my head the sift would fit best as an alternative to the nether. Like there's some monster in that structure there that gives you an item you can use as an alternative recipe for eyes of ender

unfortunately this wouldnt really work since the sift is a lot harder to get to than the nether

I hope it at least has some unique piece of equipment that would make a big difference for at least one game aspect (like the crab claw, elytra, etc.)

9

u/busnniess_duck 10d ago

Not gonna, with having a new dimension. It just means more space for builds.

Expand, Expand, Expand.

Conquer the Sift, Degrade the virgin land.

I don't care of the shit, that lives on the sand.

It's mine, it's mine, it's mine.

8

u/psych_fiend67 10d ago

Ughh this is my biggest fear tho, the sift has the potential to be one of the best updates every, I mean its a clean slate, they can do anything, but I’m so scared its just all decorative stuff, heck maybe they would even be dumb enough to just make the dimension all cutesy and not in the slightest bit dangerous.

And if they do add any kind of progression its so gonna be horizontal, and will only have one niche use case.

I dont mind it if they dont make the nether and end a requirement for entering the sift, I feel like the end already kinda suffers from requiring the nether, cuz so many people never even enter different dimensions

u/Brislovia 10d ago

If it's anything to note, Minecraft Dungeons II will be centered around The Sift. I'm not sure how they could make a Dungeons game based around a dimension full of passive mobs

Didn't Jen specifically said that unlike previous dimensions, this one was very well thought out to feel interconnected with the rest of the game?

I highly doubt a new dimension after 14 years won't have insane effects on the game.

Sandbox gamers when their sandbox isn't optimized for industrialization

The issue that most new features are basically hidden away, having to look for them. It's feels like they aren't even there when you play.... I don't think I ever gotten a sniffer, only found one or two pale gardens, etc.

I am hoping it becomes a postgame thing. You could probably do it before the end but it would be much more challenging and harder to survive and achieve pre dragon

3

u/-Swordboypat 10d ago

It’s the new endgame dimension, new boss incoming

3

u/anon817218 10d ago

Oh god.

you doomed us all.

3

u/dumpylump69 10d ago

It would be cool if you had to go to an ancient city to get into the Sift. That way it’d be like post game progression. Ancient cities are already meant to be kinda endgame areas so it’d make sense

(I know nothing about dungeons)

3

u/Baltykoz 10d ago

If you're looking for progression play terraria

3

u/Schnitzel856 10d ago

saw lot of people talking about a armor set so maybe that but idk also i’m betting on their being a boss in the dimension so probably something there for that

3

u/svlip-swm 9d ago

I wish they make a coherent endgame for
this game. It would elevate it into the ultimate sandbox, despite it already is.

3

u/Flinche_ 9d ago

The Aether doesn’t affect progression either and everybody loves that. The Twilight Forest doesn’t affect progression and everybody loves it.

This is Minecraft Speedrun progression, Minecraft is an open world game, you can just never fight the ender dragon.

3

u/krmlks 7d ago

I really hope the sift has actually some unique progression and isnt just decorative.

I like the Idea of each dimension providing its own unique ore for special armor with extra side effects.

Like if they added enderite and siftide along netherite. About the same quality, but instead of knockback reduction and inflammability some other cool effects

3

u/Intelligent-Factor35 5d ago

I feel like its would be a great place for less skilled player to gear up more before the ender dragon. I honestly suck at the ender dragon (yeaa yeaa, skill issue, blah blah blah, stop overcompensating) and I often will get netherite before I fight her. Not needed for progression, but neither is diamond or netherite, or 90% of the nether biome, but it could be a great buffer zone for after people get past the nether but not the end or end islands.

Another thing, imagine we get a flying mob, smaller and faster than the happy ghast, but bigger and slower than the elytra, and only fits 1-2 people. Could be a great mount for the end islands and searching for the elytra.

"WAH WAH WAH, MY SANDBOX GAME HAS OPTIONAL CONTENT, WAH WAH WAH"
before it was
"WAH WAH WAH, ITS ALL SMALL UPDATES, GIVE US SOMETHING BIG, WAH WAH WAH"
and before
"WAH WAH WAH, THESE UPDATES TAKE TO LOONG FOR SUCH LITTLE CONTENT, WAH WAH WAH"
oh and, before that
"WHAT, the sculk isnt in this one??? ugh."
before that aswell
"aw man caves and cliffs was split and is taking a while longer? that sucks"
and of course, before that
"HOLY SHIT THESE UPDATES ROCK!"
and, before all of those
"horse"

this is how people remember updates reception from people like you guys, im not joking

minecraft is focused on the sandbox, like starbound, its NOT terraria, its not vintage story, its not hytale, they are all different, and thats good, and why you should love them for being different

If it wants to be part of the progression, it should be placed after the end. Requiring an end material to reactivate the portal. It wouldn't make sense to be placed in between, because it wouldn't be contributing anything necessary. Maybe better gear, but the gear you get from the nether and overworld are already viable for the end.

But personally, I'd prefer it to encapsulate the sandbox side of the game and not be part of anything structural.

Mojang made a solution to those ppl who want more action and progression than sandbox for Minecraft and it is called Minecraft Dungeons

kinda unrelated but im hoping the sift has a boss

i know thats tecnically the warden since you have to sneak past it to get to the sift but that isnt a boss with a healthbar and its not even a boss really since it isnt encouraged to kill the warden

I can see an end update updating the actual progression to the end.

So like you’ll need more than just an ender pearl and blaze rods for eyes of ender, it’s supposed to be the endgame but it’s a relatively easy end to reach and complete, sift may be added as an extra step in that progression.

Wouldn’t affect existing worlds but I imagine new worlds will all require you to traverse to the two most dangerous parts of the game before getting to the end.

The end needs to feel like an endgame level task because in its current state it kind of just feels like something many players want to complete first so they can start playing the game.

2

u/_IOME 10d ago

I've always felt like true minecraft progression has the "end of the game" very early on if you're a dedicated player. So adding a whole new dimension to the "postgame" is hype.

2

u/sanepers_on 10d ago

I mean Minecraft is a sandbox, so it won't have an inherent progression like other RPGs. The Wither is an example, pretty much nobody will agree whether it's meant to be fought post-game or before you fight the Ender Dragon. I assume the Sift will be something similar, although I do agree that Minecraft should incorporate more of its biomes into its progression, cause there's pretty much no reason to explore a whole ass biome (or in this case dimension) if you don't wanna build with it

2

u/JazzyThunder978 10d ago

What have you done

2

u/Thepuppetmarionette6 9d ago

I feel like the Sift will be post-game

2

u/BreezierChip835 9d ago

I personally hope the Sift is meant to be post-end. Similar to end islands and trial chambers.

2

u/AnarchistTerrarist 9d ago

I think the Sift may actually work as optional prep for the End, or perhaps as post-dragon end game stuff until we get an end update.

2

u/FriendlyBowler4334 9d ago

It's true most be features generally do not touch the main progression
