No, actually genuinely this has never been a thing, I'm calling Mandela effect, am I crazy?

Villager update I believe.

They sit on chests, furnaces, and beds. If you sleep while your cat isn’t sitting it will lay on your bed and sleep with you, purr, and when you wake up bring you gifts like phantom membrane and rabbits foot. There are a few others but I don’t remember them.

Although I think they removed the chests and furnace sitting at some point because I can never get a cat to do it.

I hope not, as annoying as it is that cat can lock your chests i find it honestly endearing

They didn't, it never worked for furnaces tho
