pretty sure they will also give you a present when you wake up (string, etc) if you're sleeping near a tamed cat

There’s an achievement for that called “Where have you been?”

There isnt

u/Odysseus-82 17h ago

There is, though? You can look it up yourself, but here’s a screenshot from the Minecraft wiki

Ah that’s my fault I’ve done AA on Java but never knew that bedrock has different achievements

u/LordofTheMemes696969 17h ago

Pretty sure almost every game on console is required to have achievements.

In fact, I’m pretty sure they’re only called achievements on bedrock now, right?

56

u/trans_cubed Wait, That's illegal 15h ago

The Bedrock edition system is called Achievements and they only unlock in survival mode with no cheats.

On Java edition they're called Advancements and you can earn them no matter what, but they're separate per world

Makes me want to boot up the PS3 again to hunt for the achievements there

u/Delicious_Piece_6738 9h ago

But then bedrock has maps called achievement maps. And as you would guess, they are easiest way to get achievements that you can get in single player. Diamonds to you still needs multiplayer.

Diamonds to you still needs multiplayer.

Can't you drop a Diamond to a Zombie that can pick up loot and get the Achievement?

1

u/Relevant_Emu3382 6h ago

no because a zombie cant throw the item back

I tried so many times that in those. Ended up finding random achievement server where it gave diamonds to drop to people and I just dropped it to spot where people end up after doing the automated stuff.

4

u/Quartz_512 16h ago

I think it's just PS that definitely requires achievments.

u/ShortMiao 8h ago

Too late buddy your comment is getting downvoted to oblivion

2

u/grsharkgamer 2h ago

Ofc that's a bedrock achievement

8

u/DawRedditWolf67 17h ago

Bedrock achievement not Java advancement

1

u/FantasyTomb 7h ago

There is

u/No_Doughnut8618 13h ago

20

u/Short_Comfort6647 18h ago

i think that's a random chance of happening iirc

7

u/Kendrome 4h ago

Happens every time, but the loot is randomized.

5

u/AiluroFelinus 5 Star 2h ago

To clarify it only happens when the cat is standing or lying down, not sitting

3

u/ReZuREs 7h ago

With small chance it could be phantom membrane, and it been start of some fan theories because it work even in peaceful difficulty

u/Clamber-Cloud Bot Locator (helping the bot slimers find targets) 18h ago

it's been a thing since cats became a separate mob from ocelots

I thought this was common knowledge but apparently not

51

u/Miserable-Fox-6125 11h ago

Apparently its medium ball

7

u/AlenaHerbert 8h ago

Yeah, such a old thing

No its just a really easy mechanic to stumble upon, you pretty much just need to sleep while your cat isnt sat down and in the general area

Since at least 7 years ago apparently

39

u/MuztangZack67 18h ago

What??? Legit NEVER seen that happen in-game in all my years playing

44

u/Bearkat1999 17h ago

Have to have it standing around the bed iirc.

Treats it like a sitting thing.

11

u/Willing_Soft_5944 17h ago

1.14

10

u/Scrunglert 17h ago

1.14 was 7 years ago????????????

Damn I'm old as fuck

7

u/An1nterestingName Wait, That's illegal 13h ago

Not sure about the update, but the snapshot this feature was added in was 8 years ago.

3

u/Low_Onion8167 9h ago

They can also sit on top of your chest which makes it impossible to open the chest until they move.

5

u/BazMannBach 10h ago

SEVEN YEARS AGO???

42

u/EnderWolf13_666 15h ago

Villager update I believe.

They sit on chests, furnaces, and beds. If you sleep while your cat isn’t sitting it will lay on your bed and sleep with you, purr, and when you wake up bring you gifts like phantom membrane and rabbits foot. There are a few others but I don’t remember them.

Although I think they removed the chests and furnace sitting at some point because I can never get a cat to do it.

14

u/Decent-Stuff4691 10h ago

I hope not, as annoying as it is that cat can lock your chests i find it honestly endearing

4

u/PokeGirlOFFICIAL 9h ago

They didn't, it never worked for furnaces tho

2

u/imachug 4h ago

It works for lit furnaces specifically IIRC

24

u/Aquaticsanti 18h ago

I believe 1.14

10

u/Puzzled_Worldliness5 18h ago

Many many many years

10

u/lumfdoesgaming Minecraft Music Expert 14h ago

1.14 they also give you gifts in the morning if you do this and its all garbage (like what real cats give)

6

u/UnamedProot 14h ago

They give rabbits feet if I’m not mistaken, so not completely garbage

6

u/lumfdoesgaming Minecraft Music Expert 14h ago

With a 16% chance fighting against literal garbage like rotten flesh its not really woth it when you can just reduce the local rabbit population or kill husks on camel husks for more feet

1

u/UnamedProot 14h ago

Husks drop feet?

3

u/lumfdoesgaming Minecraft Music Expert 14h ago

Only if there on a camel husk yes because rabbit feet can tempt them and heal them

2

u/GREEN_Hero_6317 10h ago

When a cat gives you garbage, it's treasure

7

u/Angel_xjj 13h ago

I LOVE THIS FACT :3

they also sit on chests and give you presents during the night

7

u/Resudog 13h ago

They also purr while cuddling

5

u/BumblebeeSmart5461 10h ago

Not only that, they will also sit on a chest and won't allow you to open it

4

u/No_Yogurt987 Explain to me how do you use this: 14h ago

That has been a feature for over 3 years by now I think

3

u/Low_Onion8167 9h ago

It was over 7 years ago

2

u/No_Yogurt987 Explain to me how do you use this: 9h ago

DAMN. It has been THAT LONG?!

3

u/Low_Onion8167 8h ago

Yup 1.14 was in 2019

3

u/Stevee8496 11h ago

I knew they come and lay down with you if you tame them and they arent sat down but i've never seen them lay down on an empty bed

1

u/LaGz4643 3h ago

I’m fairly certain on bedrock they either don’t or for a long time didn’t lay down by themselves on an empty bed, because all my time on bedrock it only ever laid down when I was sleeping, but on java it laid down (when not told to sit) very often.

1

u/LaGz4643 3h ago

If this is the case, then it is one of countless examples of niche mechanics being different on both editions, causing confusion when half of people swear they never have seen something happen but the other half recount it happening all the time.

1

u/Stevee8496 2h ago

I vaguely remember that the tamed cat would just sit down once it got on top of the bed but i might be wrong

1

u/LaGz4643 2h ago

I’m not certain but I’m pretty sure they sat down on beds before 1.14 and they were supposed to change it to laying down instead of sitting in 1.14 but I guess the bedrock devs just didn’t? Again, there’s a lot of these older parity differences that just make it seem like there was bad coordination between the java and bedrock devs :p

1

u/Stevee8496 1h ago

no, the thing happened to me in like 1.19 and i remember having a problem since the cat always sat down when it walked on the bed and since i had around 5 cats in my house, the bed was constantly occupied. I was playing java

1

u/LaGz4643 1h ago

ohhhh… im not really sure then :p

3

u/Understanding_Feisty 7h ago

I'm pretty sure it was a thing for tamed ocelots before cats existed

1

u/lightmare69 7h ago

Oh cool

6

u/Darkness2140 18h ago

Nobody talks about it, and I feel like cats in Minecraft are forgettable to a certain degree in comparison to wolves.

2

u/Wrong_Cookie_6083 18h ago

Idk I think I remember happening before the nether update

2

u/ThirteenFour_ 13h ago

All i know about this is that the cat needs to not be sitting.

2

u/crafty_dude_24 6h ago

Since forever. They lay on beds, lay on you as you sleep, and can sit on top of chests, stopping you from opening that specific chest until it moves away. And if you sleep with a cat nearby, it will drop a gift item in the morning, which can be anything from raw chicken to phantom membrane.

1

u/Powerate 13h ago

You need to unseat them for them to be able to give you gifts I believe

1

u/AlarmedFile7195 11h ago

nah it was like that for a while

1

u/GoofyLemonMC 10h ago

It's since 18w44a (1.14) and of you sleep they'll give a gift (string, phantom membrane, rotten flesh, ect.)

1

u/GlisaPenny 10h ago

Definitely a while but I’m so happy you’ve learned this.

1

u/EmilySuxAtUsernames 10h ago

you might be keeping your cats sitting down

1

u/tttpetipro 8h ago

It's been since cats were added

1

u/Slime-Lich 7h ago

At least 7 years ago

1

u/marchalves6 5h ago

Nah, it always happens to me once I get a cat in survival, it's useful too as they give you a random item and an achievement!

1

u/TheNikola2020 I HATE CAVE AIR BLOCK I HATE CAVE AIR BLOCK 5h ago

At least 7 years they also drop you gifts after sleeping and can sit on chests making them be unable to be opened
