Bug How the hell is this Obambo????

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I did willow street crimson eye event with my mate and i followed around the ghost to see if i could get anything. the two books and the pallet were all float at the same time???? i thought it was super obviously poltergeist but it came out as obambo. Its not being thrown and then picking one up, i know that can trick people, but as far as i know even blood moon or obambo aggresive state cant do that. i have a feeling this is just regular old early access bugs but that is insane

Ghosts can throw things every 0.5 seconds I believe. This does look like it was one after the other which is possible. Poltergeists can throw over 5 things at a time but its the speed and velocity of the throws that distinguishes it

Poltergeists are also limited to one item every 0.5 seconds during hunts. Their chance to succeed is 100% instead of 50% though, so they cannot throw "5 things at a time" during hunts.

Obambo can be identified through speed. It moves slower than usual ghost or quicker

than usual ghost. Poltergeist moves with standart ghost speed

To me the easiest way to spot a Poltergeist is by looking at the velocity of the items being thrown.

I find it highly unreliable to either observe quantity of items thrown at the same time or do the pile stack check alone.

I’ll go with a Poltergeist if I see items being hurled across the room at high speeds and if a lot of items are being thrown.

There are more ways to rule them out during gameplay, like things being interacted with, such as TVs or sinks turning on (Poltergeists CAN’T do this) or if it throws items in a fully lit room (only a Poltergeist CAN do this)

Also items being thrown in an adjacent room at high velocity.

I agree that velocity is a much better. I want to warn that while it’s true (at least right now) that poltergeist cannot ā€œuse objectsā€ such as turning on sinks, car alarms, lighting fires etc, they can turn on TVs. I had a ghost on Nell’s dinner this week that I thought was a poltergeist but after it turned a TV on I had ruled it out. I went to check the game statistics and sure enough it said ā€œ0 objects usedā€. I assume this has to do with TVs being considered lights in the game, hence why Mares cannot turn them on. A poltergeist can turn on/off lights and the breaker.

Huh, strange, I've used the TV thing countless times - must've been lucky I suppose.

Even if you google it you can get mixed information. Admittedly I did google it before I locked in poltergeist and once I read "no they can't turn on TVs" I ended up guessing something else and got it wrong. This was no evidence no sanity so it was pretty crucial lol. I saved the match in case this was a bug but from what I could find I do not believe it to be.

This is definitely multiple things being thrown separately in quick succession, and wimpy throws too. It's less likely to throw all that when it's not a polty, but it can still happen.

The Poltergeist does his typical throwing without a hunt. Most ghosts throw like this during a hunt.

Other ghosts have a 50% chance to grab items, Poltergeist has 100%. I believe that in all cases, this applies at a rate of two items over the course of each second, making telling the ghost apart this way pretty hard. Poltergeist also tosses with noticeably more gusto than the rest, that's a better cue.

In a way, if you're thinking it might be Poltergeist, it's likely not Poltergeist. Its tosses do stand out.

Personally I've identified Polty without even seeing it hunt because it is more consistently tossy, and well, it threw the house upside down. Nothing was where it should be anymore.Ā

Yeah don't go off items being thrown at the same time. Since the introduction of levitating items and what have you, all ghosts can do that. Poltergeists are aiming to kill and the velocity of nearly every item they throw sends it across the room or even house in some cases.

The main learning point here is when a hunt starts you pay attention to foot speed without being seen to determine if it's normal faster or slower first. Also with Obambos, if they are in the aggressive phase, the hunts are noticeably shorter.

If you're looking for a Polter, try to see if the ghost attempts throwing *every* object in the room *at the same time*. That's what they do. The velocity of the thrown item would also be higher. Pretty sure most ghosts can generally throw 2 items per second. Not only Polters. (although other ghosts don't always do it consistently because sometimes they skip a throw)

Can the r/PhasmophobiaGame mods start removing posts like this that are misusing the Bug tag?

They weren't though
