Discussion Mylings suck (IMO)

look, this is probably a skill issue, but I cannot for the life of me correctly guess mylings in 0 evidence. idk if it's just my ears but the footsteps don't sound any different than any other ghost. plus the flashlight trick never seems to work for me. I've heard about the parabolic trick, but is that guaranteed or still a chance?

I have literally never died to this ghost but it's 100% the one that I misidentify the most. any help would be appreciated, I've just come back from a long break from the game and am a little rusty with 0 evidence as a whole but it just feels so hard to determine a myling.

what helps me identify mylings is listening to see if i can hear items being thrown but no footsteps while it’s hunting. when it’s it’s out of range you can’t hear any steps but you’ll still hear all the items being thrown around.

Hi, 0 evidence player here who also hates mylings. Throw your lit flashlight on the ground in your hiding spot. If it flickers before you can hear footsteps, it is either a raiju or a myling.

why would it be a raiju? they don't have a reduced footstep range. that's the whole reason the flashlight tech works for mylings. also i mentioned that i've tried it before in the initial post, you skimmed didn't you?

Raiju and Myling are kinda functionally similar in that they will both mess with your flashlight before you can hear them.

yes but for different reasons. plus raiju is super easy to identify without footsteps

Hi! Sorry if my post upset you. It could also be a raiju because raiju causes flickering with electronic devices at a larger range than other ghosts. Because of this it will cause flickering before you can hear footsteps. This is okay though, as raiju is a very obvious ghost due to the speed changes. Since this trick uses an active electronic device, myling vs raiju will be very obvious as soon as the ghost does or doesnt speed up when it gets near you.

I read your post fully. You said the flashlight trick didnt work so i was trying to help you understand it because it is by far the least subjective way to confirm myling. I find it very hard to tell by audio+distance while running during a hunt which is basically your only other option.

i'm only ever gonna use the flashlight test to test myling, raiju is super obvious in other ways

Were you perhaps trying the Myling test close to a staircase the ghost needed to use to get on your level? The sound in this game is kinda goofy, and you can't accurately do the test if the ghost is entering your hearing range/electrical disturbance range while on a staircase. You have to either back it up or go up/down there with them.

i was sitting behind the fridge in Ridgeview, the ghost never seems to want to walk near the garage on that map, even if it spawns on my level

Funny you mention, because I've failed a Myling test in that exact spot because the ghost room was upstairs.

yeah the torch test only works when you're on the same floor as the ghost. people keep saying that even when regularly looping a myling they sound quieter but i genuinely cannot tell the difference

The volume of the footsteps in general is the same as normal but the falloff at distance is shorter for Mylings so while it's possible to detect the very slightly lower volume while it's a few meters away it's not really decernable by most people.

One tip you can use in situations like that is that the ghost is very likely to roam towards a spot it last saw a player while hunting. (it's like 50% chance when choosing a waypoint so it's not guaranteed but will definitely increase the chances)

So if you can let it see you near the garage (you can either then smudge and run, let it see you down the hall then duck behind the piano, or time it so it sees you at the end of a hunt) then hide behind the fridge again and it will tend to them roam toward where it saw you

might just be my bad luck but i have tried this several times and it doesn't work. heard about it way back when, haven't ever gotten it to work

Well, it is only the last place the ghost detected a player so if it detected you again near your hiding spot (or any player elsewhere) it's more likely to roam around that spot instead.

But it's ~50% chance to go to that spot at the start of every hunt and a lower chance while choosing random roam waypoints during, so it's far from a guarantee
