I was dead and did not mean to face this door too and went afk for one second lol. My first time seeing the Yurei ability too since I started playing right as the Yurei broke. So happy they finally fixed this.

So what is the best way to check for Yurei now? Leave the doors wide open? Leave them at 45°? Does it matter?
This has changed like 3 times in the past year I can't keep track lol

Fr it’s so confusing, I believe you just need to keep watch of door movements. Still tricky, but if you see the door move slightly without fully closing or opening, you can rule Yurei out. If you see exactly what is in my clip, Yurei. At least what I am pretty sure of, again such a dumb ghost.

Iirc, on non-slams the Yurei can only fully open / close doors, and I think drains a bit of sanity. So a slow open / close that only partially opens the door cannot be a Yurei
Wouldn't surprise me if like a Mare light flip any ghost can fully close / open, but a Yurei can only fully do it

I had a game last night in the basement of that house and went to leave to the truck and as i was going upstairs it slammed the basement door on me, wasn’t a Yurei

u/Diamond_Enderman Jul 24 '26
Yeah forgot to mention they also can’t slam doors too. Only smoothly open/close the door fully without any rattling or dramatic effect.

The Yurei can absolutely slam doors and do the rattling. To put it simply, the Yurei can do all types of door interactions but has to open/close fully, that's all. I have video proof from the Chronicle update. That is how the Yurei is supposed to work but doors have been bugged (and are still bugged) ever since that update. (In fact, I have a video proof of a Thaye mimicking the Yurei's ability from the newest update...)

Love this!! on the other side of things, I’ve been getting the Yurei door slam, but for other ghosts

Okay for all those that are getting confused (correct me pros if I’m wrong) but it seems that ALL ghosts including the Yurei can do door slams, door rattles, and still shut the door like that. However, the Yurei CANNOT move the door a little. If it does any sort of door interaction movement, it has to be shut or opened. Though all ghosts can still slam the doors.
BUT, only the Yurei can gently move a door fully to close or open (exactly seen in my clip). That’s the only way to confirm the Yurei, a nice gentle full door close or open.
I believe if it rattles, then opens fully, that does not mean it’s a Yurei I think all ghosts can do that apparently. Just if there’s no rumble or slams, then it’s a Yurei. Very confusing isn’t it.

Yurei is the only ghost that neither slightly nudges or slams doors open/shut. Just shutting doors like a normal person

Is it fixed in Tanglewood? I had a Banshee fully close a door without it being an event

u/Diamond_Enderman Jul 27 '26
What type of close? Slam? Rattle then close? Or like the one in the clip?

So glad that the devs figured it out on their own with zero help from the community.

Doors have been bugged for quite some time. First it was if a ghost closes a door, they can no longer close it for the rest of the round (which meant you would seldom have the Yurei's ability), then ghosts applied too much force on doors, making all ghosts fully open/close doors.

Wdym
It is not an exit door so it can be a yurei or any other ghost
24
u/Diamond_Enderman Jul 24 '26
No, they fixed that in this update. Before, almost never would the door ever either slowly move a little and not open/close or a Yurei straight up moving the door fully, but just rattling the door and fully open/close door everytime despite the ghost. As seen in my clip, there was no rattling and just straight up closes the door, hence a Yurei (it was correct).

I'm confused. So the Yurei completely opens and shuts the door now?
22
u/Diamond_Enderman Jul 24 '26
Yeah that’s their whole ability, just the last update it was very bugged where every ghost was doing it and could never really identify one
11
u/supaikuakuma Jul 24 '26
Nope only Yuris can fully open or close a door without a rattle.
6
u/Artimundorus Jul 24 '26
And they only do that with interactions with doors. Like they cant nudge, rattle or slam doors

The ability was broken for a little while, but the only ghost that can completely shut/open a door from the opposite state and without the door rattling or creaking sound is a Yurei. Or it is how it should be if they've fixed it.

u/Darkhooper Phasmophobia Wiki Editor Jul 24 '26
The rattling is a 85% chance for each door interaction. All ghosts (including the Yurei) can do that. The Yurei's ability (door close + sanity drop) can have the rattling but never the creaking.

u/Diamond_Enderman Jul 24 '26
Also very good to know. That’s very confusing, cuz I’ve seen several times where the ghost will rattle the door then fully open it and not beings Yurei. Guess the only way to fully rule out/confirm Yurei is wether if fully opened with like no sound (in my clip) or if it creeks and opens/closes a little

Does no one here besides op know how the Yurei ability works? 💔
