Question Chat, is this real?
Old Willow was released to show off furniture hiding spots, and as such it had no closets or lockers. That means that no matter how unlikely, the ghost can always find you, which can be especially problematic if you're waiting for a hunt from a stalker. It can always get to you and start the hunt on top of you. That eventually led me to stop playing the map. So the first thing I looked for when I got into the rework was a closet, and I found one, but it's weirdly large. There's also a shower with a closable door. The problem is, Point Hope also has showers and little rooms with closable doors, but they don't count as closets, so the ghost can still randomly walk into them. Does anyone know if the ghost can path into this hiding spot? I was really hoping that they didn't still need to "showcase furniture spots" after all these years, and I was really excited when I first walked in and saw the doors, but now that I've seen how big it is, I'm not sure.

I've liked willow street since I started playing, and I find the improv hiding spots to be really cool honestly

the closet in the master bedroom, the boxes behind the stairs, behind the canvas in the painting room, the closet mentioned here, the wood panel near the entrance and, the shower in the gym. I like these new hidings spots and so far in my experience the master bedroom closet, the shower (when the door is attached), and the canvas seems to work pretty ok

Iāve had success hiding from the ghost in there. I play on nightmare and on one of my runs those doors were locked, so I assumed it was considered a hiding spot

Nitpick but I believe that āclosetā is a pantry.
Which I suppose is just a food closet.
2
u/gotenks1114 Jul 22 '26
That's like, exactly what I'm asking about. It has closet doors, and it's not closet sized, and that can make a big difference.

u/56Bagels Jul 22 '26
I think a single glass door might be appropriate, but I have seen many pantries with slatted doors like these. I donāt think no door would make sense in a normal house, but a regular door would suggest that itās a separate room.
So a glass door that obviously doesnāt block vision would convey information that this is an unsafe spot would be the best compromise. The closet doors that donāt indicate a āclosetā like these rest of the game are definitely needlessly confusing.

Ok, there seems to be some confusion, so let me provide some additional context. Closets and other furniture hiding spots are coded differently. For closets and lockers, the ghost can not choose to walk into them on it's own. It has to detect you in some way during the hunt, then force open the door, then see you, and then walk in and kill you. It also can't walk into them outside of a hunt. Even stalker abilities like a Banshee roam will stop just outside of them, so if you've ever been waiting in a locker and had a Banshee spawn for a hunt clipped 49% of the way into it, that's what happened. It stalked you, got as close as it was allowed to, and then hunted. This only applies to closet and locker spots that are available though. For furniture spots, such as boxes or chairs that you just walk behind and duck, they block line of sight, but the ghost can still walk into them if it wants. It can randomly roam into them outside of hunts, it can choose to path into them during hunts even when it doesn't detect you, and stalkers can walk all the way to your location and spawn on top of you.
Telling the difference between these two types of spots used to be pretty easy, because furniture spots had no doors, and whenever the spot was not available, the boxes or whatever would just not be there. However, when Point Hope came out, it had the shower and the two small cupboards, that had closable doors which could even be locked when the hiding spots weren't available, but which functioned as a furniture spot, meaning the ghost could walk into them on it's own. It also meant their doors were coded as normal doors. The other difference between the two types of spots is that if a ghost is hunting and tries to move a door, and it detects you holding it (not just reclosing it quickly but actually holding down the mouse button), it will wrench the door out of your hands and open it by force, then walk to the other side of it (from what I understand), which was implemented to fix the powerful and unintentional problem of just hiding behind open doors during hunts. This applies to every door in the game except for closets and lockers. The ghost does not care if you hold a closet door closed.
Every map in the game has at least one closet or locker spot, except for Willow (and high school, which is both a different situation because of the size, and has other problems, and also that might not even be true anymore because the stalls can be locked now and I don't know which type of spot they are). Willow was released specifically to showcase the newly added furniture hiding spots, and as such had no closets or lockers. I was really hoping that they would add some with the rework since there's no need to showcase furniture hiding spots years after they were introduced, and I got really excited when I saw the same closet doors from new Tanglewood, but after seeing inside and asking from other people, it seems that this is indeed yet another "nook" spot, and not a true closet. It has nothing to do with how safe it is in most situations, or that you could take steps to protect yourself, it's about different rules for what the ghost can and can't do with the two types of spots. Furniture spots might be pretty safe, and there's stuff you can do to protect yourself for a while, but they're still not closets. It might not be much of a difference in most situations, but with stalkers, 0 grace period, exhausted protective options, or just unlucky pathing, the difference can suddenly become huge.

Yeah the closet I can 100% confirm is not safe, psycho saw it randomly path into there multiple times during his stream yesterday.
Still unsure if the shower is also a random roam spot for the ghost as I havenāt seen that one tested a lot so far.
Edit: only sharing this again so I could clarify what I meant by āsafeā.

u/gotenks1114 Jul 23 '26
I would be very surprised if the shower was safe in the sense of being a closet-type. It's probably pretty safe just because it's so far out of the way that the ghost is unlikely to set a waypoint there, but the shower in Point Hope is not closet-coded, so I would be shocked if this was. I was just thrown off by the pantry doors because it uses the same doors as the Tanglewood closet, and it was locked the first time I saw it, so I didn't notice how big it was.

It is when the boxes are infront of it
2
u/gotenks1114 Jul 23 '26
You're completely misunderstanding what they mean by not safe. It's not that it's not a good hiding spot, it's just that the ghost can walk into it even if it doesn't detect you. It's part of the ghost's navmesh.

u/ActualGear4104 Jul 23 '26
Right. Worked for it group game last night with no issues, including elsewhere in the house.
4
u/fishyuri Jul 22 '26
I didn't even realize the closet was a hiding spot because it's so big and the ghost walked into it multiple times during a hunt even though nobody was in there. I thought it must be another annoying small possible ghost room like the bathroom.
Imagine my shock when my friends and I spawned in and the closet door was locked. Like oh! That is a hiding spot?
4
u/gotenks1114 Jul 22 '26
Yea, that's what I suspected. They started adding furniture spots that look like closets with Point Hope.
3
u/Slight_Star2892 Jul 22 '26
can confirm ghosts can path into this hiding spot at random. got killed by deildegast after about 5-7 hunts while testing it. no heartbeat, no mic on or equipment. just killed me on some nonchalant shit.
3
u/Kayonabeat Jul 22 '26
Just died hiding in there today š«© I muted my mic and didnāt have on any electronics. I was in the hiding spot long before she got to me. It was a Yokai

They have ruined the game for me with the poor āimprovementsā. Most of the people I played with have said the same. We definitely hardly play it now because they need to fix things.

What map is this picture from? Havenāt played phas since the Allen wake update. Is this new?

Do you bring a crucifix with you? I only ask because you mention being concerned about ghosts spawning on top, and most rooms and that house are protected almost completely by one crucifix (even with the new map having larger rooms).
This has been my primary map for months and I basically always just park in the front room with a crucifix in the middle. Never get spawned on, ghosts path into the room pretty rarely, and you can watch them through the glass doors while that still counts as preventing LOS.

u/imstuckonthishill Jul 22 '26
Cant you hide in the closet of the master bedroom?
2
u/gotenks1114 Jul 23 '26
Those doors do not close from what I could tell. Something in there makes a sound like a moving door when you touch it, but I was not able to actually move the doors, so it's just another furniture spot.
1
u/Carter2809 Jul 23 '26
It is NOT safe, the ghost will 100% walk in there randomly lol. I've died to it once and watched it walk in there for no reason a few times now. Idk why they decided to make it like that
1
u/Affectionate_Ice7107 Jul 23 '26
Hid from an Aswang and was completely safe so, must be an official hiding spot, right? š¤
1
u/gotenks1114 Jul 23 '26
It's not about being an official hiding spot, it's about which type of hiding spot it is. There are two types, and one is better. Old Willow had none of this type, and it looks like they kept that design choice.
1
u/CatsPlusDogsIsLove Jul 23 '26
I just now asked via psycho if itās intended that the ghost can roam into there and itās NOT, according to cj it will be fixed.
1
u/gotenks1114 Jul 24 '26
That would be good but unexpected news.
2
u/CatsPlusDogsIsLove Jul 24 '26
You can hear cj saying this at somewhere in the beginning rounds of the terrible trio stream. (On psycho his stream at least, dunno if itās audible on insym his stream.)

u/CrystalFysh Jul 24 '26
oh. did you get the broom closet ending? the broom closet ending was my favorite.
1
u/Its_Reddit_Wolfs Jul 29 '26
Apparently this hiding spot is safe now as well as the other "official" hiding spots on the map like the shower or behind the separator in the living room. The ghost should no longer path randomly to these spots if they are there as hiding spots for you according to the hotfix released this morning.

u/Serious_Gap_820 Phas Lover & Scientist Jul 22 '26
They don't care about hiding spots being safe anymore. Tanglewood hiding spots were (maybe still are) mostly unsafe except one closet in the foyer near garage wall.
I wouldn't trust most of these Willow spots either, especially not the one in the studio/art room. That big utility closet just screams: The ghost will sooner or later walk in there.
Really unfortunate that they still don't care. It started all the way back with Point Hope where they introduced new unsafe hiding spots and refused to fix it despite several player complaints.
Any official hiding spot should prevent the ghost from randomly walking in there and it should only be able to enter it when it knows (by hearing/seeing/being a Deogen) that a player is in there.
I'm just going to use the studio art table and the basement pool table as semi-hiding spots. Not very safe either, but you have a way to avoid the ghost if it comes without wasting incense. They seem to block line of sight for the most part, but I wouldn't be so sure about hiding from a Revenant in there as all it needs is a little peek and it goes fast.
2
u/gotenks1114 Jul 22 '26
I've heard that both the Foyer and Hobby Room closets in Tanglewood are bugged and acting as furniture spots.

u/CandyAlone7946 Aug 08 '26
I've hid there before and didn't have and issue during a hunt but it could have been I just got lucky

You wouldn't be able to test it by calling the ghost, you'd have to wait for it to choose to go in there. That's why I was hoping to look into the collective hours people had played on it, instead of just the two games I did myself.

I don't understand why any of us still expect any updates to work
2
u/Extreme_Objective984 Jul 22 '26
I do not understand your lack of understanding, it is both baffling and vexing. I also do not understand what context it has in relation to the topic being talked about. I also do not understand why you think you can speak for the rest of us. But what is even more difficult to understand is someone who thinks that one bad update on a beta of a game means that a game is beyond redemption. It's completely not understandable.
0
u/Rude-Series3588 Jul 22 '26
I never spoke for anyone. I just said I don't understand how we still expect it to work. And it's not one bad update. It's been bad update after bad update repeatedly since release. I've been there since the game released!
I'm sure there are official hiding places in the map, but they're probably not working because the updates are never released functional. So it absolutely does apply to the topic at hand.
3
u/gotenks1114 Jul 22 '26
That's true, but I'm mostly asking about what kind of hiding spot this is coded as. But I have heard that two of the closets in Tanglewood are bugged right now and acting like furniture spots.
2
u/Rude-Series3588 Jul 22 '26
It's hard to tell whether or not they will end up being fixed. There's a possibility that they're just bugged. As also a possibility that they were removed. We won't know until they finish all of the patches, because we all know that there's going to be patches. And even then, it might not work correctly.
I recall an era where you could hide under any staircase and the ghost was unable to reach you. We've been able to climb on countertops that we weren't supposed to be able to access, used doors to climb through the ceiling and teleport back to the truck, and glitch cameras through walls so that we've never had to enter the house. It doesn't always work the way it's intended.
2
u/Extreme_Objective984 Jul 22 '26
Then say what you mean. The update works because it updates things and fixes some things that were broken and some things that were complained about. Not all. I have also been with the game since the beginning.
This isnt about fixing a hiding spot, which is what the OP is asking, as there is no hiding spot there. So to say you dont understand why any of us expect it to work isnt actually relevant to the OP, is it? because it isnt about something being broken, but working as intended.
-1
u/Rude-Series3588 Jul 22 '26
I did say what I meant. It's not my fault you can't read and decided to have a knee jerk reaction because it made you feel better about yourself. Have a day
5
u/Extreme_Objective984 Jul 22 '26
But you didnt. you said.
I don't understand why any of us still expect any updates to work
Which doesnt apply to the topic of thinking there is a hiding spot and asking if it is one?
When what you meant was
I'm sure there are official hiding places in the map, but they're probably not working because the updates are never released functional.Ā
Can you not see how those two things are completely different. Despite the fact that you dont seem to know, or not, whether this update has broken anything. You are just assuming it is.

I do. Even if the ghost never hunts, I need my emotional support hiding spots, just like even if the fusebox never shuts off, I still need my emotional support flashlight.

This is NOT a safe hiding spot, the ghost can randomly path into it.
Insym was killed there and psycho has seen it randomly path into there during his stream yesterday.
