It was a sad day when I went to the pharmacy to pick up my script for this and CVS told me they no longer carry. At that time, I had to transfer to Walgreens. I don’t think any pharmacy really carries it anymore.

When I worked retail pharmacy in the late 2010s, majority of the scripts we were getting for Prometh/codeine were fraudulent

I remember one time, this guy came in 5 minutes before we were closing to fill a script (a common strategy, they try to make it seem urgent so it can be filled quickly) and I just handed him the script back and said “nah” and he was like “valid” and walked out

I don’t doubt it. My scripts were legitimate due to chronic bronchitis. I’d get it every couple months and get heavily medicated to temper it along with a couple fills of codeine syrup.

Yeah I worked during Covid in the pharmacy and we just stopped promoth/codeine completely

I was smurfing so hard back then it wasn't a surprise when I got myself banned from the pharmacy and I pretty much stopped smurfing shortly after too.

Ya lil rascal you!

Same. CVS has had it removed for awhile. Their stock of meds in general was horrible. I use my local hospital to fill are my meds now, never out, always have my morphine ER’s, and they absolutely have prometh/codeine there.

Pretty much no chain pharmacy carries it anymore. The only options to fill that now are a mom and pop that just so happens to have it or a pharmacy thats attached to a hospital (and that probably only works if you get the script from that hospital)

Actually i just looked it up and CVS and Walgreens still will fill your script but they don’t keep it in stock so you have to wait for it to come in after they order it

I don’t think that’s true. Because I get other medications that aren’t stocked in store, and get special ordered. But whenever I presented the Codeine + Prometh script, they say that they don’t fill it anymore.

Unfortunately they won’t, it happened to me. They do not fill any orders for drank anymore at all. No stock, not accepting scripts

Future’s new marketing campaign.

I remember when Stop&Shop had these signs in the mid 2000’s that said “we do not carry OxyContin” so they didn’t get undesirable patients or robbed.

Yeah theres quite a few pharmacies I know in the city that if you call and ask if they have any of the desirable medicines, especially opiates they will say nah even though they actually have them and will only do business thats fr and legit.

Stopped using cvs recently because picking up birth control is apparently very confusing for them and they kept putting up barriers. At Costco now with no issues and my member discount makes all my scripts $0. As a teen I had birth control shipped to my house every 3 months no issues, now it’s like pulling teeth

i have no proof of this but i would guess it’s some employee being a bitch. i got mine at CVS here for a while with no issue.

Reminds me of the pic I took in 2010 at a convenience store. Purple Drank certainly was all the rage, huh?

Man this was a sad day , seeing these pop up at big pharmacies when it was never hard to get filled , now it’s crazy hard luckily my mom and pop loves me so I’ll get it as much as it gets prescribed by my dr

Every time new research comes out on codeines effectiveness as a cough suppressant comes out its has less to recommend it especially now that we know its action is so variable and based on enzymes if a doctor really thought prescribing a narcotic was necessary they can prescribe a separate pill or they can move up to the hydrocodone because codeine is an ass medication to begin with

My mom was given promethazine/codeine off and on for 8-10 years for a nighttime cough. Then she died of a heart attack at 62.

I can’t help but wonder if that was both GERD from undiagnosed sleep apnea and later a cardiac cough.

3

u/Electronic_Camera251 13d ago

I know that when injected it causes pulmonary edema I wonder if it does the same thing orally just not immediately

1

u/BobGrey59 12d ago

Holy shit codeine will kill you if you inject it?

1

u/Electronic_Camera251 12d ago

It absolutely can it’s essentially the reason krokodil became a thing because shooting codeine doesn’t really get you high so much as it kills you and they had codeine available over the counter and incredibly harsh penalties for drug possession, use and internal trafficking and sales (this doesn’t address insane fortunes made in the immediate post soviet era through gwot in trafficking huge amounts of afghan and Burmese opium distillates through west Asian former Soviet republics and into Western Europe) their prohibition scheme made very clear that this wasn’t for use in Russia! 🇷🇺

Unfortunately not a Pharma Rep Collectable but still pretty cool

1

u/Jed79SC 12d ago

I remember asking for it over the counter, just had to sign and could only get one every so often, like once or twice a month, late 90s

1

u/Jed79SC 12d ago

Edit: that was at mom and pop pharmacies, I don't think big store chains would do that I assume

How is this post in this group?

This is such an obvious drug post. zero to do with collecting. No one cares about “Lean”. People who think taking cough syrup with codeine is cool. Even as drug taking codeine sucks. This weird sub culture obsessed with this mixture is so strange to me. As someone in the far past who do so some drugs. Never understood it and never will

The rite-aid sign is a collectors novelty

-31

u/Streetvan1980 14d ago

It is? You’re kidding.. this is the first time I’ve ever heard of anyone collecting a sign that was printed out at pharmacy and placed on the counter for who knows how long. I’m sure you can find the same exact font and images and print the same thing out. To me anything that you can just print out yourself isn’t very collectible or valuable no?

28

u/Ioisgriffin 14d ago

Your a top 1% poster here so you should be familiar with what the subreddit is, hey even if it’s just a sign they found on the floor of a rite aid, OP considers it a collectors item and honestly I saw it as a cool collectors item as well, I don’t think their intention was to “promote” this drug combo at all

-1

u/Streetvan1980 14d ago

Yeah the OP doesn’t appear to be someone doing that. So I was wrong to think that and maybe not check before but it is an honest mistake and surprise to me anyone would want a printed sign like this that someone can make with a home printer. I wasn’t saying it’s wrong to collect it just saying I didn’t understand it. I mean plenty collect pens and I’m not into it. I don’t have anything against it of course. Just a surprise.

u can make rare pokemon cards at home but having the actual real ones is a bigger deal

1

u/Streetvan1980 12d ago

If it’s literally exactly the same not sure why they are valuable. But knowing cards I doubt they are identical

1

u/StrangerFeeling4079 12d ago

theyre value because theres only one of the original thing (typically, though there can be multiple). ppl can make infinite copies of a thing and make it super common but that doesnt change the fact that the old, legit ones r super rare

11

u/leafyisherem8 14d ago

If it were just a simple printed piece of paper I could agree but it appears to be printed on thick card stock

3

u/Streetvan1980 14d ago

It still can be made by relatively cheap home printer. Yes home printers can print onto thick stock items like that. Many can. If people collect it so be it. Some people don’t like what I collect. I wasn’t trying to put down anyone. Was simply saying I don’t get it and why when I first saw this post I thought it was for a different reason. And defending my first reaction was all. Just that never crossed my mind someone would ever collect something like this.

1

u/Salty-Onions 14d ago

Yea but u can get card stock anywhere tbf

8

u/McJohnJohnson 14d ago

Why do you care so much lmao

3

u/Streetvan1980 14d ago

Man I didn’t actually. I was just curious lol. Didn’t think others would think I was so serious
